Does anyone know what band is playing at Sonar on Friday, September 30? On their website it says that the band is an "arena band." Thanks.
-
they will announce this on Wed 8/31 at 10am.
and i highly suggest you go to their site then.
cause its pretty fuckin special.........
-
any hints?
-
My guess is that it's the Rolling Stones. I remember a rumor going around about how they were going to do some small shows.

I hope it's Beck...

Beck is a possibility: 9/29 in Boston, 10/01 in Pennsylvania opening for the Stones who are in Pittsburgh 9/28.
and julian, the killers will be in wantagh, ny on that date. :)
-
it also won't be pearl jam, who are playing in atlantic city on that date.
-
i bet against Beck because it is listed on Sonar's site as a "band that usually plays arenas." I'd expect they'd use "artist" if it was Beck (as opposed to "band"). But who knows.
U2 has dates off between September 25th and October 3rd.
That gets my bet.
-
on a pretty fuckin special scale of 1 to 10, how pretty fuckin special?

I'll bet on either Oasis or Belle and Sebastian.
-
Beck is a bad bet as he has a date in the area thats not sold out.
U2 has dates in the area that ARE sold out, but are way to big to be doing club show in Baltimore.
so bet against U2 and Beck (and coldplay, oasis, the killers and the rolling stones)

as far as seeing this band in a little club to someone whos a fan? probably a 9.

I recall U2 playing Irving Plaza in NYC a few years ago.

2000. yes they did. but you have to admit NYC club shows are cool, Baltimore club shows, not so much.
-
hmm...we're running out of "arena bands."
It seems to me like the Pixies or Belle & Sebastian are the only things left if the Across the Pond Fest is a legit hint. And really, neither of those really are that exciting...
-
when has B&S played an arena show (in america)

true, true.
-
haha, true on B&S. That really only leaves the Pixies, and since that's the only thing mentioned here that you haven't refuted, I'm going to go ahead and believe that one.
And I'm with you - not very exciting for me, if that's really who it is.
-

IF its the Pixies, thats pretty damn exciting

good point. but its kind of the same difference.
-
why is it pretty damn exciting? I mean, they've played the area like three times in the past year. and yeah, I guess its a smaller venue, but hasn't the whole Pixies reunion sort of played itself out by now?
-
ok ok its not the damn Pixies.

hmm. then I'm out of guesses.

I just saw that.
The Rolling Stones schedule has a gap between their Pittsburgh and Hershey/DC dates that includes the 30th.
-
I think I'm still guessing U2. I can't think of anybody else that really fits the description, if the Stones are thrown out as a possibility. U2 has no dates in Baltimore, and has the week off.
-

It does seem like a possibility, but I just can't figure out why U2 would put an arbitrary club into their schedule---a Baltimore club show.
-
probably because they can. and I'm out of any other ideas, barring some bizarre one-off show from some random group.
-
Foo Fighters
-
They play Denver on September 30th
-
Black Crowes are playing 2 nights at 9:30, so a night at Sonar wouldn't be a big deal

I considered that, because Dave's wife is a Balmoron; however, I think they are scheduled elsewhere on that night.

i could only hope the dandy warhols did the suitcase tour on the east coast. and yeah they play arenas, just not in the US.

Yeah would they really make a big deal over the Black Crowes, and the Black Crowes play Arenas since when?
-

While I'd love to see the Dandy's again, that's almost certainly not it.

yeah of course its not them. as i said, it was very wishful thinking. but, no worries, they'll be doing a full tour quite soon with the release of the new album. playing CBGB at CMJ, then i think its off to europe, then back to the states. if they skip DC ill be everywhere else on the east coast seeing them. :D

b) doing a club tour already.

I'm betting it's one of the following two crappy bands:
Audioslave
Velvet Revolver
-
BEN'S CHILI BOWL

Okay, here's my question. Has this band played any club shows in the last 3 years or will this be a complete surprise?

Yeah, really, if this show was, oh, 12 mnoths ago, there'd be chaos up in here.
I'd go if I didn't already have Coldplay tickets. Or if I hadn't seen them once already during the reunion tour, I'd sell the Coldplay tix.

BURN!!!!!!!

Yeah, if this show had been in lieu of the DAR shows last December, or in place of the Merriweather show this summer.
But four Pixies shows in a year? Isn't this milking it a little too much? I mean, even the bands that are never off of the road - like the jam bands - don't play regionally this often.
-
people are NEVER HAPPY!
-
well I mean, you said yourself that you weren't too excited about it.

Whatever...I'm pretty fuckin' excited
I was also first to guess Pixies. What do I win?

This will be huge for some (alot?) of people, but at the same time I think a lot of people will be let down by the hype.
That being said... I'll try and get tickets as I think it would be great to see them at Sonar.
-
Originally posted by callat703:

right, but i wasnt too excited about the Pixies in the first place. I saw them at Coachella, and declined to buy tickets to either DAR shows or the Merriweather one.
i may buy tickets to this show just because its in Baltimore and at Coachella i was so damn excited to be seeing Radiohead next that perhaps i was not paying strict attn to the Pixies.
unless tickets are like $50, then forget it.

fair enough. i hope this is a blast for big pixies fans, which i'm sure it will be.

his is very exciting for Baltimore people who havent caught the Pixies at Merriweather or DAR.
also exciting for DC peeps who'd like to see em in a small venue

yeah i checked at 11:30 and tickets were still available. i'm suprised.

Not that much publicity on the show yet, except on the internet and no mention on pixiesmusic.com....once it hits the papers it should move pretty fast......got mine at 10..
