so I came out of DC9 last night around 2:30 or so after the show, and there was a drive by shooting that took place between U and T, literally as I was in my car outside of the club. the car was driving up 9th toward the 9:30, and was firing at the sidewalk that would have been to their right. Probably about 15-20 shots fired; didn't see anything because I was too exhausted/ducking after hearing the gunshots. I ended up seeing a ton of sirens and an ambulance as the night progressed.
anybody know anything more about this? scared the shit out of me.
-
Oh my god. That's really frightening. I'm glad you are okay.
-
It might be Finch's fault. One of their crew guys was saying that someone got shot down the street last time they were here. Is there some kind of East Coast - West Coast punk war going on?

that's some crazy shit, did you see much? stick around to be a witness?
i'm sure we'll see a story on it in tomorrow's post or on WTOP.com or something
-
i didn't really see much, otherwise I would have stuck around. really, i heard shots and got down. not cool

I was parked in front of DC9, at the Exit Clov show at the VL, and we couldn't have missed that by more than a few minutes. That can be a tough block. Lots of drug dealers hang out there. That blows. Sounds like it could have easily been a "wrong place at the wrong time" sort of situation for some poor soul.
-
seems like the real problem of the developing area rearing its head. obviously there are going to be lots of people in the wrong place at the wrong time; i just wonder how long the area will remain that way. It seems that the nightlife is springing up so fast that the city will have to respond in some way.
-
That is so bizarre and I was outside of DC9 last night at roughly the same time (perhaps a little later than 2.30 a.m. though?). I am really lucky I was not involved in this - I was walking home alone and who knows what could have happened.
I am glad you are all right and managed to miss/duck the bullets. What a terrible and frightening situation to find yourself in. :(
Cheers
DJ Medusa.

I'm sure it was just someone letting off leftover firecrackers from July 4th. Nobody has guns in DC, they're illegal......silly!
-
You have nothing to worry about. That neighborhood is entirely safe. This is random. Could have happened at any neighborhood in the city.
-
This bothers me alot since I'm always telling friends who won't go to any "U" street clubs with me that they're just paranoid...so far, no mention on the local news. I'm glad no one got hurt; but is wounding/death the only way these events get publicized? What is the big attraction across the street from DC9? There are always double-parked cars and people hanging on the sidewalk...
-
This is why it's important to support Second Amendment gun rights. If guns had been legal in DC, all the people in the area could have self-deputized and opened fire on the shooters from all angles.

Probably some damn Hanson fans taking pot shots at the club in retaliation for our bashing them. The shooters were on bicycles with baskets, right?

Is there still lingering bad blood between Finch and Disturbed because of the fight last year? I guess Disturbed fans are living up to their bands name.... And if it was related you can be sure it was a bunch suburban "punks" involved.

I suspect it has nothing to do with it being a "developing area" and everything to do with nightlife.
-
well, i think that they go hand in hand. You don't have the nightlife in that part of town without the fact that the area is developing - you bring in more people doing less savory things later at night.

How dare you not simplify things down to one, solitary issue we can make a scapegoat!?! Next thing you know, you'll be saying the Civil War was about more then just slavery.

Actually, having been there and seen it, I can assure you that the nightlife, and the problems, came long before the development.

Because Doom knows.

Doom, you missed my point. I'm not claiming that the problems never occured prior to the development or new nightlife; my point is that as the development and nightlife continue to become more prominent in that part of town, there will likely be more instances of people being in the wrong place at the wrong time - innocent bystanders that get caught up in this kind of violence.
Add to the fact that the more people you add into any area late at night who have been drinking, etc (which you cannot possibly argue hasn't happened in the last few years in that part of town), the more likely it is for problems to arise, and you just have a situation that is going to need to be addressed.
-
Well ok, that's true!
-
tough to hear considering the fact I'm a new resident of the area..I'm at 11th btw. V&W
-
I'm hoping a bit more violence will drive down housing prices temporarily so I can buy another condo...

Usually I find this response hilarious, but it totally doesn't fit this thread. B- for the effort though.

so I was filled in that apparently this wasn't a drive by shooting, but instead, it was an old fashioned gang shootout on the sidewalk itself. even better. jesus h.

From that article it sounds like Finch is a little jealous. He wants to shoot somebody in the fu#$king head cause their music is better than his.....gotta be a better solution.

I think I'd prefer a gang shootout over an old-fashioned drive-by... At least you know there is a definete target rather than random shots.

...and stuff like this is why my dad isn't letting me go to 9:30 alone anymore. i've missed so many good shows already. i'm like a poor, deprived music nerd...

My guess is he's worried about you getting picked up by aging indie hipsters like Carlos D. from Interpol rather than getting caught in shootouts...

actually; that was a concern a year or two ago and disappeared once my mom finally gave in. my dad's only concern is the drive by shootouts.
and besides; who says that I'M not the one doing the picking up of aging indie hipsters? ;)
