Post by: Got Haggis? on February 17, 2003, 10:20:00 am
Anyone know if the show is still on?
from thier homepage
17th February 2003
Firstly, thank you to all the people that made it through the inclement weather to the Philly show last night (the band's first ever US date). The band were very appreciative.
We don't know if tonight's show is D.C. is going ahead at this present time so please call the 9.30 Club for an update 202-265-0930. Cheers

i would think so, it stopped snowing bay 2 am last night and its warming up now. and dc got a lot less snow than the surronding areas. i'm gauging about 16 inches over here in sw.

i hope it'll be postponed! it may have stopped snowing, but the roads around me are in a nightmare state, and i know that hell freezing over will occur before i am able to make it out for the show tonight. d.c. got tons of snow too, i can't imagine many people being able to venture out for the gig tonight at all. they'd do better to postpone it, for when people have thawed out...fingers crossed this is the case!!!!

I hope it isn't cancelled. I doubt it would be rescheduled and there aren't many chances to see bands like these in this part of the country. And since they played last night - it should still be happening.
But we need an announcement soon! Even with my 4WD I'll need to leave early this afternoon to get there in time.
uh yeah it stopped snowing about an hour ago here in bethesda as well. however, there is no way in hell my car would be able to make it out of the driveway...road hasn't been plowed at all.
now i just hope they close the government tomorrow so i don't have to work, heh.
clincher for me is if the metro decides to run more than once an hour so i can get there. at least i don't need to transfer. oh wait, coming home, since it will surely be after midnight, means taking a cab, which means my normal 6.90 fare will be doubled. hmmmn, perhaps a postponement isn't looking so bad.
i was looking forward to shemekia copeland at the kennedy center millenium stage before the show but they are closed today.

It looks like the bands will be able to make it in from Philadelphia so the show will be happening tonight.

Oh my... I've been waiting for this show for a while now, especially since it's my birthday today. They haven't cleared the residential streets here in Bethesda, so I'm crossing my fingers. It looks as though the show will go on, as they've posted times on the main page.
Good luck everyone!

hmm well looks like i'll be missing the show. too bad there's no way for people who have no feasible way to get to the gig to get their money back. *grumble grumble*
those who can get there, enjoy the gig. i am sure it'll be great. bloody snow!!!!!!

so how is the 930 parking lot looking? Is that plowed (or the streets around the 930)? The once an hour metro isn't cool, they haven't plowed our street in Bethesda either, luckily i'm about 50 ft from Old Georgetown Rd....so I may just shovel a path for my car to get out haha.

in a way, the show will be even better tonight because i bet only a few hundred people will be able to make it so we'll get the bands all to ourselves.

i think i'll still be able to make it, granted my friends drive. I do wonder about the status of the 9:30 lot though.. or any parking around there for that matter.

Yeah, the show will be awesome... I'll admit to that.
They just plowed our street but my parents aren't up for driving me places. Do you know what would rock? If people in different areas could volunteer to give us unforunates rides in exchange for something... like chocolate cake with fresh whipped cream (hint, hint.) (http://www.930.com/ubb/wink.gif)

U St is fine and we are working on the road up to our lot so the lot will be in operation this evening. Just perhaps at a reduced capacity.

What about parking tonight? Are the parking lots cleared? What about street parking (yeah, RIGHT, but I might as well ask)...have the roads surrounding the club been plowed?

be careful parking on the street as u street might be considered a snow emergency route so then you'd need to park elsewhere in the neighborhood.

are you coming in via 395? i'm right off 395 in sw, dc, near l'enfant plaza...
yes, i could take the metro, but it'll be an hour wait for my train...
that said, those of you stuck in va, please step right in front of me in the queue.

wait a second, you're really going to drive in all the way from richmond and then home again in the same night? you're going to spend 7 hours total driving for a 3 hour show? *mind boggled*
you already have a long enough drive, i'll hop the metro. thanks for the offer.

some reason metro isn't listing the time tables for the trains today like they did yesterday? wtf? they tell you to call customer service but its always busy. wouldn't it be more effective for metro to post on the website? novel concept, eh? (http://www.930.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif)
[This message has been edited by lily1 (edited 02-17-2003).]

WHY AREN'T THEY POSTPONING THIS CONCERT?! I've waited so long for this concert and now I'm trapped! According to www.nbc4.com,[/url] Metro is only running underground! So that means I either have to hoof it to L'enfant Plaza or buy an SUV (http://www.930.com/ubb/frown.gif)

i already know that. what i was trying to say is that yesterday, on wmata.com they listed at what time to expect your train since they were running only every hour, and then only every two hours so you weren't waiting in the station and could plan better. i don't want to get there only to find out i just missed a train.

quote:
Originally posted by steelcuda:
Metro is running trains only once an hour and with limited service.

I assume it was a cover..
Title: Re: Ladytron

there were probably about 400 people there. i was front and center since i got there so earlier (as chance would have it, i waited only 15 minutes for the metro) phaser was decent and i liked the acoustic approach. simian bored me. and i had to laugh when i heard some girl scream "english boys are hot" whilst i was thinking, damn, this has got to be one of the worst looking bands i've seen. ladytron was good, but i enjoyed the second half much better. i wasn't a fan of the chopppy lyrics and the second half was more melodious and fluid.
random question, anyone know the name of the song the dj played right after simian left the stage? its a favorite electronica song of mine but i just can't recall the artist.

Ladytron was a great show throughout, it was better than I expected since their songs sort of tend to sound the same after a while. I thought the two chanteuses seemed a bit reserved and shy, but that's understandable it being their first US tour. And 2 encores, what a treat! (did you hear the guy yell out 'who does your hair?' haha)

yeah, that was funny. btw, were you down in the back bar before the show started, with another girl and a guy? at the end of the bar?
and i think another bber was standing next to me with his girlfriend and another couple during the show. they had accidentally displaced the couple that was standing next to me who had put their coats on the barrier but then gone to get food. when they came bak, they ended up getting bumped about 6 feet down. sorry to you two, i did a crap job of holding your space and i thought those 4 were just standing there and were going to let you move back into your spots since your coats were there.

quote:
Originally posted by Dandy01:
(did you hear the guy yell out 'who does your hair?' haha)

[This message has been edited by lily1 (edited 02-18-2003).]

hmm, two girls put their coats on the barrier next to me (right side of stage) and then never came back for them the whole show.....it was kind of strange, as i thought they were putting them there to "secure" their spot...but never came back, heh.
the hair comment was pretty funny.

Another DJ song ID request from the show - it's the song that was played before Ladytron came on, preceding "Sussudio" (ugh). It had a hard mid-to-late-80s electro groove, with a female rapper, with the line "cause we wanna make you jump" repeated in the chorus. I don't think the song is actually FROM the 80s - there was some DSP effects thrown in that were definitely ProTools-isms...
TIA,
-Chris
