You couldn't pay me enough to listen to her album. She's cute and all, but her music? No thanks!
-
i dont understand why she is so popular. with indie being the new mainstream are hipsters beginning to "discover" more worldly type music?
-

Is she really all that "popular" could you provide a comparison for context? She's buzz worthy, but popular might be a stretch.
She's also someone you have to see live to "get it." If you don't like to shake your ass, it'll still be a mystery...but I defy you to show up at one of her gigs and NOT shake your ass.

i simply adore her. and was hooked from the moment i first heard '10 dollar' a couple years ago.
and she still makes me want a hype girl.

popular, buzzworthy, doing the summer festival scene, reviewed in major magazines and web sites...in that context i suppose.
-
Sweetcell left her Lolla show after 10 minutes, unable to take it anymore.
I see a discrepancy in opinion here.

well, i basically have a hype dog... so why can't i have a hype girl too?

I like to shake my mind's ass sometimes and MIA doesn't fail.
-
Not too shabby...but I think I prefer Arular. Thankfully she did away with the pointless skits, but Kala seems a little less direct to me. The beats are more to the forefront on Arular.
-
this also reminds me to keep looking for the 'HOW MANY HOW MANY' shirt. they had it at virgin festival saturday and then when i decided to get it early sunday it was already gone... which surprised me that it sold out before she even performed. boo.
-
You mean this one?

Well Sweet Cell doesn't have too much ass to shake, so that might explain it...that, and ummm questionable taste. I guess it is possible to DEFY my prediction, but did he actually say he bailed because he couldn't take it or had a more desirable option due to conflict? SC you out there to defend your dissing of M.I.A.?
-
Actually, I think Sweet's was a diss of M.I.A. Because he told me I should skip her and watch Pumpkins instead...
But I didn't listen to him and plenty of ass was shook.
I hear Sweet's a douche anyway ;)

I heard that too, plus his gurl told me he was a bad...well I don't want to get banned
-
Pretty sure she's just hype and not really popular, but there's lots of hype from what i've read. Still haven't gotten around to picking up her album...
off the internet...
-
she packed siren. when she was done the crowd left before the next act.

sorry folks, been busy putting my life into boxes. about 36 hours before the moving van rolls on out of DC...
i don't have much ass to shake?!? what angle you be checking me out from?!? :D
i bailed because it was boring. hip hop-meets-banghra as a musical genre just doesn't work for me - i like electronic music, but this was boring IMO. she didn't impress me with her "singing", she didn't dance that well, there was no band to watch (just a DJ)... nothing caught my attention, so i left for the rapture (a VERY wise decision, they were one of my festival highlights). she did seem to have a lot of attitude, which folks were in to. the crowd was eating it up, people were indeed dancing. i preferred to shake my supposedly small ass to the rapture.

How do you think this album will chart????

realistically, i don't think it will do anything amazing on the charts. she has *some* buzz, but doesn't have the mainstream tracktion required for chart success IMO. i could be wrong, maybe i don't have a good read of the pulse of the mainstream...
-
they took the music down....time to download or buy!
-
You must be from Jamaica, cause you Jamaica-mi crazy....~~~

Spot on assessment, if it makes the BB 200 chart at all, I'd be surprised but mid 100s at best if it's an otherwise slow week and 10-20K could do that. But it's already platinum on Bulls chart, and the M.I.A. shrine is rivaling the Amy W. one I'm sure....

A shrine I pray to everyday....my new religion.

wait for it:
"when it came to charting, this album was M.I.A."
i couldn't find any mention of it on billboard. did it even crack the top-200? it's definitely not in the top-100.
-
dude, the latest billboard charts haven't even been released, so of course you can't find any mention of it.

B.-Damus strikes again.
Sort Of.
"Eclectic Interscope artist M.I.A. arrives at No. 18 with her sophomore album, "Kala," which moved 29,000. It's the follow-up to 2005's "Arular," which reached No. 3 on the Top Electronic Albums chart and No. 14 on Heatseekers."
Cot damn, the record business is complelety fucked right now. On the flipside, I'm glad M.I.A.'s keeping a nice lil' buzz (critical, word of mouth,& tastemakers/hipsters such as you all) going for herself. I don't think it'll ever translate to sales success, but she can get still that show money. However - if she gets with Timbaland for a whole album, then she could get some mainstream love without watering down her product. But whatever.

The Timbaland track on the CD is the weakest.

i'd have to relisten to both, but i'd go with "the turn" as the weakest.
-
She made #18 on the chart....no bad at all!!
-
Coming Nov 29.....can't wait!!!!!
