Title: Rabbit in the Moon Roll Call
Post by: killsaly on August 17, 2007, 12:33:00 pm
Anybody going?  i havent made up my mind yet.  Most of my friends are out of town, and my girlfriend is definitely not going out to a show tonight with the doors opening at 11.

I keep hearing of how their shows are such a not miss experiance, and i have yet to see them.  I have seen Monk DJ a couple of times and loved that, and love RITM's recorded output.  But the question is, is this worth 25 bucks and going alone?

I'm going; don't know what to expect but I'm hoping there's room to move around.

If anyone has clue on start/stop times, kindly post

Eh--- it wasn't all-that!
Cool costumes, cool effects, somewhat-decent images on screens.    The music wasn't stellar -- not bad, just not awfully inspiring.

The concept is nice; I'd think it'd go over really well like in a tent at a big festival.  But for a 930 setup -- certainly not a must-see.

 Nice-looking crowd, cool scene.

I have to agree with byronesque.  Unbelievable show, I'd never even heard of them until like a week before, it was the wifes idea.  I tried to get her up onstage for the grinder thing against the mask that makes the sparks fly, but he picked the girl right in front of us.  I'd definetely see that show again.  The decade CD is great.  Was hoping to see Sonick there but I'm sure he's been there, done that.

thanks for all the reports... but by my reading, no one has actually described the show.  "every bit as trancy as a regular dj and then some" - does this mean there wasn't a "regular DJ" on stage?  who was wearing costumes - dancers on stage?

sorry if i'm pestering for details... i've been a low-grade fan of RitM for years, and i have no idea what their live show is like - but i'm told that it is indeed a sight to behold.  based on several folks' reactions here, i wasn't misled   :)

edit: some pix available on their  website (http://rabbitinthemoon.com/), but the website doesn't look to be very updated ("upcoming live shows" all in 2006) - are the pix representative of this week's show?

I dont know much about them except what I've listened to for the last week and the DVD that came with the Decade CD.  My wife says he's the same DJ thats been with Rabbit since the Miami days.  There was only one fire dancer that came out for two songs and the costumes were endless.  From the green one where he had the long arms to the pointy yellow one.  He came out with the Big eye that looks at the crowd and shows the crowd when the eye is looking at you, and of course he had the big ball that he gets in and comes out into the crowd while they bounce him into the air, thats when he wears the custom with all the glow sticks.  He of course throws all the glow sticks into the crowd after.  He wore that strange beast costume when he did the sparks to the helmet routine.

 Hope that helped a little.

they are playing in Bmore the night before Thanksgiving, at Sonar.  I'll definitely be there that night, so come up and see, though it may be the same show...i'd like to see you and your lady again!

well, he's already stated that he'd see that show again (see his first post above) so y'all can get the interstellar buck-sonick lovefest going again (don't forget yer glowsticks, pacifiers and fuzzy clothes optional but appreciated).

i've seen RITM many many times, mostly at large rave parties in the 90s. Ultra Festival, DC Armory, the Whistle Parties in Philly.

its a DJ, used to have another guy or two playing sequencers and keyboards, and then "bunny" who's the crazy guy who dresses in costumes and such. since electronic music isnt always cool to "watch" he was/is a novelty to see.

it was always really cool at the big parties cause the light show was amazing and since DJs rarely brought anyones attention to a certain place in the venue, RITM was cool cause they did that. and , of course, being fucked up out of your mind and 19 years old probably adds to the excitement.

cant speak for what style of music they play anymore since i "retired"!!!

here's a (probably) old pic of bunny.

He definetely wore that costume Friday night.  As for the whistle blowers, there were none, but plenty of glow sticks.  I'll talk to the lady about Baltimore.  Hopefully, she doesnt have to start Thanksgiving dinner that night.

i'm assuming youre kidding,  the parties were called "Whistle" (and then whistle 2, whistle 3 etc)  people werent blowing whistles.

i'm guessing you never actually went to a "rave".

actually, i wasn't kidding.  back in the day they had "whistle raves" where everyone was encouraged to bring a whistle.  preferred musical genre was happy hardcore.  never went to one but heard the stories... ugh.  glad to hear the philly "whistle" parties weren't of this genre.

i've been to a few straight-up raves in my early partying days (96-97) in the toronto area, but transitioned over to psytrance soon after.  i went to WEMF'98 and spent the entire weekend in the psytrance tent, don't think i spent more than 15 minutes at any other stage/tent.  i'll spare this board the etymological debate on the differences between "raves" and "psytrance parties", to the casual observer i suspect they're the same anyways (biggest difference being the smell   ;)  ).

i think those whistle raves you heard of were either really sparsely attended or somewhat of a one time thing cause i never heard of one happening and i used to trapse from Toronto to Miami , but it DOES sound annoying.

i wont get into discussing raves/psytrance either cause yeah, most ppl would be bored...but this IS the rabbit in the moon thread.

can i just say that between 1993 and 2000 when i was going to parties/raves/clubs every weekend, there was MAYBE 5% of the people who wore fuzzy clothes and had pacifiers and maybe 10% used glowsticks.  those numbers dropped in Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Chicago  but doubled in New York, North Carolina, Detroit and Florida.

so what are the chances i asked you for a light at industry?  for its first two years, i was part of the furniture there...  funny, i was wearing my industry "shut-down party" t-shirt at my send-off party the other weekend (white rabbit & cribs soiree).

i used to go to a lot of freebase parties in New Orleans, before Disco Donnie got shut down.  the average "raver" there tended to wear regular clothes.  Maybe 20 percent were of the Candy Raver variety.

you were partying in T.O. in the second half of the ninties and never heard of industry nightclub?  it was on king west, past bathurst.  for a while it was "the" nightclub as far as clubbing and house music went.  flew in national and international DJs every saturday.  for me (and many others), it was my personal studio 54 - fabulous people, rampant hedonism, great music, weekly meet-ups with friends... it was the right place at the right time.  they did a reunion party (http://www.eyeweekly.com/eye/issue/issue_12.18.03/beat/industry.php) in 2003 which was fun.
