Very meta. I found this list fascinating. No peeking!
Wiki's list of self-referential songs. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_self-referential_songs)
The first five I came up with were Pulp's "Something Changed," Radiohead's "My Iron Lung," Morrissey's "Disappointed," Steely Dan's "Deacon Blues" and..."Hey There, Delilah" by the Plain White T's.

"Gettin' In Tune" by The Who
"Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen
"Your Song" by Elton John
"This Is Not A Love Song" by PIL
"Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2
Those are the first 5 I thought of.

this is perhaps the MOST appropriate:
"Backstabber" - Dresden Dolls
"so donâ??t tell me what to write
and donâ??t tell me that Iâ??m wrongâ?¦â?¦
and donâ??t tell me not to reference my songs within my songs "
-
Amy Winehouse - Rehab
mwahahaha.

Meaningless post . . . move along.

Psst. I think he means songs that reference the song itself in the lyrics, not songs that reference the person singing them.

Not that I can think of any at the moment, but FYI from wiki:
A self-referential song is a song that refers directly to itself. A song must directly refer to itself, rather than just describe a song that could fit the current song.

You can save that for "Quick. Name five self-abuse songs."

Please disregard. Seemed ambiguous.

REM - "Untitled" (This song is here to keep you strong...)

i'm not sure i agree with that statement but the acoustic version that has been played recently is really bad.

There's no way to save that song. I have no idea why Corgan feels the need to still play that with the regularity he does.

REM - "The One I Love"
-
Jack's Mannequin - The Mixed Tape.
Butch Walker - Thank You Note.
-
Something Corporate - If U C Jordan :(

When you listed Jack's Mannequin, the memories of the 6 freaking times I saw SoCo came rushing back to my memory...
