Rolled outta bed Saturday morning. Had an itch to see the Silversun Pickups (cause I didn't wanna go all the way to Bmore on Sunday. More on that later), even though I had to tolerate the "DC101" crowd. Whatever. Tickets are sold out. Blower. Found a chick at the show, sold me hers for $40. (Idiots were out there paying $80 a pop!) Walked in literally when they started their set. They fuckin' rocked. Like I knew they would. So I say to myself, let me support the band & pick up a CD. Here's where the story gets good. Pause for pics . . .
:D Pause for more pics. I'm close to half done with this story. We go from their tent back to the stage to catch Jet . . .

Bumped into the lead singer from Jet, Richard, that's a good dude right there . . . Good people

So after we discuss a shitload of various topics over baked ziti & salmon (plus they were cool enough to pump me full of Stella Artois for about the next 2 hours), like Courtney Love's whoredom, the greatness of The Rolling Stones & The Arcade Fire, A Tribe Called Quest, and other shit, the band starts to make their way back to the hotel. They thank me for coming out to support them. We exchange numbers & part ways. I thank them for a priceless experience. That for the time being was over. Or so I thought . . . .

Part Deux . . . .
After waking up from my sleep around 3 pm or so the next day, I grab my phone. I left my CD they autographed for me in their tent, so I called 'em & was hoping they could mail me another or something. I also was thinking seeing Silversun Pickups in a theater has to be great, so I get myself psyched up to do it one mo' 'gin. Called up the band, they said I'm on their list plus one. Couldn't find anyone to go with, so I go it alone. Walked in 30 mins or so before they start. Saw Nikki briefly before the show, she was cool as a fan, greeted me with a hug like we actually know each other. Thanked me for coming out. She said "Sorry" about my lost CD, and that they would be glad to get me another. Anyway, they killed it last night. "Rusted Wheel" was great, "Lazy Eye" was  , and the whole show was more or less amazing. Pause for pics . . . .

So after their display of rock awesomeness, we all are just kicking it at the merch stand. They all came around to sign my CD for me, and on top of that gave me my $10 back because I bought a second one. That blew my mind. How can they be that fuckin' cool??? They invite me backstage for beer & what not. We're all just hangin' out. We end up singing New Edition songs, listening to some Prince, and other shit. Sat around, listened to some music, Played some songs off my iPod for 'em. In case you were wondering: 1)The Police - The Bed's Too Big Without You, 2) Arcade Fire - No Cars Go, & 3) Pixies - Debaser. Before I knew it, almost 2 hours had flown by & they were tired plus ready to go back to the hotel. I told the band & their tour manager that they gotta swing through the 9:30 Club when they get a chance. They told me that it's the only club they haven't played in DC yet. It was nothing short of a privelege to hang out with them. They treated me like family, & I'm more than proud to say I'm a fan of theirs. I told them I will tell everyone I know about how great of a new band they are. Not only are they the best (my opinion) new group out there, but they're genuinely good people. They officially have a fan for life. Brian, Nikki, Joey (SUPER good dude), Chris (amazing fuckin' drummer), Dave, McRae, thank you all for the experience of a FUCKIN' lifetime. Now I'm done. Thanks for reading. I fuckin' LOVE music . . .

I meant to get around to that. Maybe I'll e-mail her a pic of my, ahem, organ. :D
Seriously though, on top of the fact she's kinda hot she is a SUPER cool chick. Her & the band showed me MAD love. It was a great time to say the least . . .

Divine intervention. Can't explain it. I'll tell you the rest next time we happen to cross paths. The cooler shit is all the stuff I left out. Can't have my business floating all around cyberspace . . . . ;) Fill in the blanks . . .

You ran me over when you were taking some of those pix, but it's all good.

Just kidding. Great story and I am super jealous in a major Cameron Crowe kind of way. Big fan of the SSPU, and that was only hearing their music. They seem even better now! I love the Clash T and then the Vertigo T too - straight outta my wardrobe. The pointing to Richard like "do you know who this guy is?" is a classic shot. Next time, get him to take one pointing at you - sure to get you laid.
A little shocked that you couldn't get someone to go with you to the Baltimore show and if I lived in DC I'd be super pissed you didn't post here seeing who'd like to join you. Oops, did I post that so everyone could see? My bad.

Great story.....just wondering who the darkie fella is in a couple of the photo's!!! ;)

I think I know exactly who you are. My bad. I was burning the midnight oil hard as hell this weekend. My apologies. We can get up one of these concerts & I will bestow thou with an apology beverage free of charge for your troubles. :D

Most excellent story. I was on the fence, you convinced me to buy the CD.

Do it, man. It's going to a band that's truly fuckin' great. If you don't like it, I'll give you your money back. (No bullshit.) "Waste It On" (number 6) is a captivating piece of rock 'n roll. The whole album is great. Trust that.
Silversun Pickups new album, Carnavas in stores now. :D
I'll post video footage a 'lil later on after I take out an hour to pay homage to Jack Bauer's gangsta @ 9 p.m.

Thanks for noting the fashion. LOL. I like your style, Smackie. The Clash are the shit. There's a story behind the Vertigo tee as well. Got that in Hawaii seeing Pearl Jam open for U2 (Billie Joe from Green Day was there, too) in December. I was standing in line in the stadium getting two beers, I turn around and there's (don't ask me why) Kid Rock & Scott Ian from Anthrax. We chop it up for a minute, and they end up giving me a backstage pass to come back and party. I didn't make it back there for a couple reasons, but good times nonetheless. Random shit just pops up & happens to me . . . .

Great story, and those are fucking awesome pics. Especially the one from behind of Jet, with that crowd in and the buildings in the background. As a dabbler in photography I am insanely jealous.
you should post them on Doomlink too. :) http://www.alex.to/doomlink (http://www.alex.to/doomlink)

No doubt, fam. I got SEVERAL more. I got video of Jet doing "Cold Hard Bitch" & "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" in addition to (duh) a couple of video clips of Silversun Pickups. There's plenty of pics to go around for everyone . . . . :D

Add this to the "great story" responses. Sounds like a great time.

You have no idea. My body's still hurtin' from this weekend. It was quite worth it, though. Needless to say, I didn't quite make it in to work today. :D
-
Not a fan of the bands, but sweet little story ya got there. And nice pics too.
-
That is so sweet!

Add this to the list of "great story!" replies. I can't believe it was just last year that I saw SSPU open up for Viva Voce at Iota--and it wasn't even sold out! I never heard their music before but their set blew me away. It's good to hear they're such cool people.

Whats the difference between Well Known/Almost Famous and Famous?

p.s. cool story

Cool isn't the word, fam. We were just breaking bread like they've known me forever. (Brian and I had a funny ass convo about "indie being the new black", then he made an argument that "black is always gonna be the new black". I got a kick outta that shit for obvious reasons. :D McRae, their tour manager, & Dave, their guitar tech, were showing me a lot of love as well. Real cool cats right there.) At no point did I ever feel like some hanger-on to some rock stars. I can't wait until they come back to D.C., and I plan on making it my personal mission to make it happen. I'll drop the band a line & give them the link to this thread. Maybe they'll post something or at least look at the thread, so we'll see. I'll keep y'all posted.

Yeah. I actually thought about y'all boardies while it was going on. More specifically you/econo & you be betty. I actually believe it was you or econo & also betty that put me on the Pickups. So, thanks. I have you all to thank as well.
