"In late 2005 while playing the Talking Head Club in Baltimore, Maryland, Clockcleaner shocked and disturbed many people in attendance. While playing the last song John Sharkey tackled someone in the crowd that had Cerebral Palsy."

From allmusic
Biography
Already banned from numerous concert venues despite their still-young career -- and proud of it -- Philadelphia natives Clockcleaner are bent on resuscitating punk rock's original spirit of adventure and imminent danger. To do so, vocalist/guitarist John Sharkey, bassist R. Slegel, and drummer Richard Charles unloaded all of their unorthodox songwriting tricks into their 2004 debut EP The Hassler, released by Manic Ride Records.
Also from allmusic:
Review of The Hassler: (1 1/2 stars)
Like the bastard children of the Butthole Surfers or the Jesus Lizard, Philadelphia's Clockcleaner write punk rock songs for people who are tired of punk rock. Too weird and unruly for typical alternative rock as well, their six-song, seventeen-minute debut EP, Hassler, unfolds in lurching stops and starts, confounding expectations as much with convulsing, sub-two-minute sputters like "Bad Man" and "Black Baby," as it does with the seven-minute freak-out "Shingles." When it's all over, Clockcleaner's unpredictable arrangements and ear-shattering bursts of feedback aren't for everyone, but they're also anything but boring.

CLEAN AND MEAN
Meet Phillyâ??s most hated band.
John Sharkey is not having a good night.
The singer/guitarist/provocateur of punk rock noise outfit Clockcleaner is sharing a bill at the Khyber with New York Cityâ??s Bad Wizardâ??a band he doesnâ??t care for, at a club he doesnâ??t like. Itâ??s cold out, and his furious playing style has caused him to throw out his shoulder again, something he fears is becoming a problem.
After his bandâ??s set, he has a drink. As Bad Wizard begin the nightâ??s last set, he has another.
The show wraps up and Sharkey, still in pain, does what he can to help load gear into the van. He has another drink and goes upstairs to retrieve his coat from the green room. There Sharkey finds Bad Wizardâ??s â??fat, Mr. Kotter-lookingâ? lead singer sitting on his coat. The singer moves when asked, but only slightly.
Suddenly â??Mr. Kotter,â? who hasnâ??t made an attempt at conversation the entire gig, lets out a hearty chuckle about the nightâ??s payout. He and his Sweathogs: $600. Clockcleaner: considerably less.
Sharkey, outweighed and an arm short, decides throwing a punch would be less than a smart idea. So instead he takes a breath, goes downstairs and walks toward the exit. To the right of the door sits Bad Wizardâ??s merch table: CDs, T-shirts, stickers and vinyl all laid out carefully for consumption. Itâ??s unmanned.
Sharkey could walk out, but he doesnâ??t. Instead he pulls out his penis and, in his own words, â??unleashes a bladder-full of the nightâ??s beer pissâ? all over their merchandise.

the man man comment got the droped from their PR firm

i'll be there. clockcleaner is one of the very few bands around right now who are actually dangerous, unpredictable, and provocative (oxbow being one of the only others). i'm surprised the black cat is taking a chance with this show, as they usually never touch anything like this.
-
im surprised deerhunter likes them
-
Any chance of this selling out in advance? It's on the backstage and the BC sells backstage tickets ahead of time now.
I'll probably pick up mine tomorrow at spectrum just to be safe.
-
Clockcleaner sounds like an industrial band...
Anyway, I'll be there.
-
bradford (singer of deerhunter) said:
COCKCLEANER kick ass. we had a rough begining but then i grew to love them. they have a strobe light, which is cool.
one more thing...
COCKCLEANER and QUEERHUNTER are going to put out a limited (edition of 5) cassette single together. Keep your ears peeled.
-
first person to msg on www.myspace.com/hitdatrecords (http://www.myspace.com/hitdatrecords) gets two free tickets to the show in dc tomorrow and a free copy of the clockcleaner fan club only 7" I put out. This is your last chance to get a copy. DONT BLOW THIS.
See you in DC
-
hey epstein, are you hit dat records? good work on getting wzt hearts out. you got some cool baltimore bands, too. i'm surprised we never crossed paths before.
-
yes i am
thanks
it makes it worth it when people say that :)
-
Any chance this'll be moved to the mainstage?
-
dunno
i thought deerhunter was insanely hyped so I thought it would be on the mainstage in the first place
-
Yeah the fact that it's on the backstage is bizarre.
I kinda like it there though.
-
there were maybe 40 people watching them at the rock and roll hotel just 4 months ago, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I think that's just because H St is a pain in the ass to get to.
-
And there were a few other things going on that night.
-
How was the show? I wound up flaking; I was too burned out from training and new job paperwork. Bummed, but a good night sleep is exactly what I needed.
-
Clockcleaner's bad-boy attitude simply couldn't scale the sheer wall of insouciance that a DC crowd can generate. As soon as the singer remarked that we were "the most boring crowd" the band had ever played for, I knew we had won the fight.
Deerhunter were pretty good, although I had to split early.
-
Dude, if this was NYC, people would've been dancing their asses off.

someone needs to add this to their blog. that's some reviewing genius right there.
the pinnacle of indifference: actually enjoying a band but leaving early anyways :p

Though basement shows generally trump all.

They were great at DAR.
Yeah, well they were better at 9:30.
Yeah, but that wasn't nearly as good as The Black Cat show.
Did you see their Backstage show?
No - But I saw them at Iota once....and left early.
Winner! :)
-
the word hipster should be banned from this forum.
-
The Germs cover that ended up turning into a noisy sludgy mess of an encore was fun.
I enjoyed both bands.

deerhunter was insanely boring...5% of the time it was interesting..the rest of it seemed like a rip off of a good bit of black dices beaches and canyons
not really quite sure what this hype is all about
clockcleaner killed it, not only saying that cause i put out their records, but they sounded great. As far as the crowds go, I cant blame them for what they said, then again the crowd they played for wasnt the kind of crowd for them. Im pretty much willing to be 60% of them never heard a germs song in their life.
-
i fuckin' missed clockcleaner, due to late-running band practice, and the black cat's anal retention in starting shows exactly at 9:30 even with two bands.
deerhunter were good but as epstein said, ripping off black dice circa 2002, and certain bits of MBV. not bad, but i'm also not sure of all the hype. supposedly, they were a bit more unpredictable a couple of years ago.
-
Speaking of Black Dice, how about booking them sometime during that 10-day gap before their philly show? ;)
-
i would, but they are too big for the velvet. they'd be good for the blowtel, but i'd much rather see them at the black cat.
-
What about Eric solo? He could play the velvet and his new album is pretty solid.
