Where were all you douchebags last June when they played at the Black Cat to a crowd of around 80 people? Oh, "music critics" hadn't told you they were cool yet so you didn't bother to see them. I get it. Now I have to see them will all you jerks and stand between some couple making out and some guy in a spikey metal belt. Awesome. I wish each person with a ticket was illiterate and wasn't able to read the reviews so that I could see them by myself, completely alone. I hate sold out shows, I hate people who are "in" to "in" music. I've already seen them twice and yes, that means I find music on my own, unlike you scumbags.

The better question is: Why start a new thread on this? (http://www.930.com/cgi-bin/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=008722)

I didn't see them in June because I had no idea who they were. Back in September or October I read a review at allmusic.com and decided to give them a try. Frankly, the best album I have heard in a long time. I guess I am one of those idiots who are going to see them at the 9:30 at the end of January. I don't see anything wrong with this. Actually, the only thing I see is that your main point in your message is to show us how cool you are, I thought it was a pretty sad message.

i saw them in 2003
just cause you know Canadian music is where its at doesnt make you special.

shame they didn't go the route like ashlee simpson sell millions of records and then go on tour in large arenas and charge lots of money, would have been much better that why dontca think.
-
I hadn't heard of them yet. Don't worry, you can stand in the front and proudly proclaim in front of everyone that you knew about them before anyone else did.
People at shows always really admire people like you.
-
Ever notice one of the chicks in Arcade Fire looks like a retard? My wife pointed that out to me.
I suppose they are not as bad as Interpol, but they're still not very good.
-
Dude, whatever. I was at Régine Chassagne's 4th grade recorder recital. Eat it.
Besides, why get all territorial over a band that's nothing all-that-special to begin with? It's just music.

and while your at it, be sure to sign the hfs petition. you'll fit in quite nicely over there.

you know i was just talking with my cousin last night about Ashlee Simpson.
see, Canada, we give you Avril Lavigne and ok, everyone can make fun of the silly Canadian girl and laugh at Canada's attempts to make good music once again. and then what do you guys do??? you make her EVEN WORSE and call her Ashlee Simpson
outdoing us in even the bad departments :)

Gotta love the "I knew them back when...." pissing contest. I'm sure the band appreciates your feelings and wishes that they could rewind to the days that they had a small fan base and made no money.
BTW do you happen to have an extra ticket? I'd like to be a scumbag too.
-
Well aren't you just a barrel of fu%king sunshine...dude you need to take something for that social anxiety disorder that you seem to have. This is not a train concert so don't get your panties in a bunch.
Hmmm, if you actually read some of the posts on this board (you know from them "illiterate scumbags" that you speak of). You would have known that you could have purchased the tickets BEFORE the show was announced on the 930 site. And a few months ago (July? I think) you would have read posts about the band and how great they are live.
So, while you get "cool kid" points for making the Blackcat show...realize that not everyone can be as cool (some of us were on their honeymoon...). Asshat.

yup Jack White had instanteous fame given to him... let review shall we.
At one point he played in a band called The Go.
He and Meg came up through the open mic scene in Detroit and use to play a place there called The Stink.
The White Strips once played the old Ottobar which is about the size of my living room.

Am I the only one that can't really get into this album? It's not bad at all, but not great either.

I find Arcade Fire to be pretty boring.

I think you're also missing the fact that if they weren't popular and you were the only person at the show, they wouldn't be playing anywhere.
People like good music.
Get the fuck over it.

Excuse me, but Isn't that what everyone on this board does? I knew the Ramones before they got big, I knew Nirvana before they sold out, we knew all these cool indie/alternative bands before WHFS started playing them and now they are not so cool anymore....and so on, and so on, and so on....
Without the scumbag comments of course. :)

I dont think so. sorry you feel that way.

I'm happy to say that I got into Oasis from way back then and love them more with every passing day...

it is sad that rob feels that way...i don't think we're like that either. unfortunately, rhett just recently started a pissing contest over on the wilco thread that tends to support rob's assertion.
-
maybe Rob would like the board better if everytime someone voiced an opinion, everyone replied with. "i disagree, but i see your point."
would be kinda boring tho
-
Rob's role on the board here is to point out what he perceives as our hypocrisy, and he is good at it
-
All I said was that the 1995 Wilco show was, to me, a much better rock and roll show than the 2005 incarnation of Wilco. If you choose to argue my point, you are the one (not me) starting a "pissing contest" if you want to call it that. I generally think of such exchanges as "discussions".

Yeah, and right now the Red Sox are still ranked ahead of the Yankees in pre season polls.
-
please refer to them as the "World Series Champion Boston Red Sox" from now on.
thanks

Sonic...I am now a fan of you! Anyone who is a Sox fan is good in my book. Rob I wait with glee for the day that Randy "what I am only 400 years old" Johnson's arm falls off. My wife is a freaking Yankmee fan as well and she did not speak to me for a week after the GREATEST C-H-O-K-E of our lifetime.

actually, rhett, you said something like..."i paid $8 to see wilco in 19-something-and-five and i'm sure it was a lot better than the bloated $30 show you'll see in february". i didn't even bother respond to that particular post. only when you started squealing about the list of "other" bands you're interested in seeing did i decide to poke fun. 'tis you my man who began the pissing contest with your 'i'm so over that band' attitude.
-
All I said was that the 1995 Wilco show was, to me, a much better rock and roll show than the 2005 incarnation of Wilco.
Myself and Rhett don't agree on much but we agree on this - despite the fact that I did buy tix for Wilco today, their pre-YHF shows were, and this is only my opinion, more fun than their shows since they've become such an 'important' act.
But we haven't seem em in a while and wifey was mad at me for missing out on the last Wilco 9.30 tix so we'll be there on 2/23.
-
I listed the bands I was seeing because someone questioned whether I liked anything. If Wilco went back to the sound of their first two albums, I would embrace them with open arms. It's not a matter of being "over them", it's a matter of not caring for their current sound.
I still fail to see where I started a pissing contest, it was the person who accused me of liking nothing, as well as the person with the snotty comment about nobody caring, who started what you call "a pissing contest."

I love how everyone on here likes to add a disclaimer about "not agreeing with Rhett much" when in reality many of y'all probably agree with me often. It's not like my eclectic music taste is really that different than any other music lover, or my cynical yet ultimately content persona is really that different from anybody else.

I dont think that disclaimer has anything to do with your musical taste normally, probably has much more to do with when you are trying to be controversial or as you might explain, "make the board interesting."

Sorry if I started trouble or a "pissing contest" because I asked you if you liked anything. It just seems like you spend a lot of time on a message board dedicated to things you consistently say you don't like. Seems like a big waste of time but thatâ??s your prerogative. I guess the 9:30 board will have to do until some new one starts dedicated to that "godfather of cow-punk" guy from a few weeks ago.
-
nayr497 falls in the category of freshmeat which the forum lions have dealt with... and touche to sonick for seeing them in 2003 thus really deflating an ego
-
The fact that you wouldn't know who Jason and the Scorchers are tells me you're a young one with not much of an appreciation of musical history. Jason has been putting out music for 20+ years. We'll see which guitar shop or accounting firm the Arcade Fire people are working for in 20 years.

um, actually, no, hence the disclaimer

At least two, maybe more, of your top 10 albums were also in my top 10. That's pretty good agreement, considering the thousands of albums that came out in 2004.

you mean the top 10 list that you castigated me for posting 'too early'! :p
We certainly overlap in what we listen to but I guess its your online persona that most people disagree with as opposed to the music you listen to
anyhoo, are you going to see Alejandro Escovedo at the Barns of Wolf Trap in March? I'm really looking forward to seeing him live again....

Should be an interesting show given what he's been through, but we're not big Alejandro fans. How are the Barns for shows? I've never been.
Regarding my "online persona", I guess I see many people (but not all) on this board as kind of being folks who are so desperate for something "new" that they'll hop onto any new band that the indie rock press feeds them as being the new big thing. Call me a bit of a skeptic and cynic after following indie/alternative music for 20 years. Seems like their is too much positivity and not enough criticism on the board.

I've only been once, to see Alejandro with his string quartet - it was literally a spiritual experience, the sound quality was unreal, and this was before I had even heard much of his material
its a small space - probably fits 200-250 people, all seated

wow. really? desperation? hmm.
i have always found my taste in music to be on the less obscure side of things here.
but i dont think having the constant craving for new bands is desperation to fit in....

Wow you can tell so much about be by what I type. Thanks for that Miss Cleo. Actually I am looking at 30 years old pretty soon and the reason why I have only recently visited this board is because I just moved to the area. Thanks for guessing though.
Lets not start a contest of who can name a band that the other hasn't heard of because it could go on forever and no one wins.
Maybe you should start an Excel Spreadsheet to keep track of all your crazy rants, because I actually asked you if you liked anything at all in a Wilco thread, so don't ask me to defend the Arcade Fire now. (By the way I enjoy the record but would not say it is the best of the year- I personally like "A Grand Don't Come For Free"). And the reason I said "that 'godfather of cow-punk' guy" was as an attempt at humor by referring to how bent out of shape you were at the Big Yawn review. I defer to your superior knowledge on Jason and the Scorchers or whoever you are going to mention next.
So go ahead, flame me, get the last word, and all us "newbies" without "much of an appreciation of musical history" (Although I doubt you can match my knowledge of 3rdBase) will go back to our corners. Submitted with all due respect to your "on-line" persona. (By the way- how sad is your real life that you need an on-line persona?)
