Title: Marcy Playground
Post by: sonickteam2 on January 06, 2006, 05:45:00 pm
do you think Marcy Playground would be way more popular if they came out now than they were when they did?

   I think they would.

No.  I think they got in at the right time -- when insipid adult contemporary bands masquerading as "alternative" sold well.

is it me? or is that a wierd sentence you just wrote?  doubt that entirely?  hmmm.

anyway, i bought the fuckin CD for a couple dollars a long time back. and listened to it today (my new has no mp3 player as of yet)

the sex and candy song...not cool, but the rest is on par to a lot of stuff out there now. i mean, its better than the Bravery or the Kaiser Cheifs or Bloc Party.

You should put it on a mixtape with your favorite Third Eye Blind, Fuel, and Everclear tunes.

from allmusic:

On their second album, this faceless alternapop trio tosses together more harmless songs that don't have much to say yet manages to lumber along anyway.

I will freely admit, I liked whatever their single was after Sex and Candy. Uncle Joe on a School Bus, or something like that. I haven't heard that song in years.

Are you listening to them in order to fulfill your Canadian Content quota or something?

So I have talked with the guy who recorded the first album for them.  He had input into making it work, and I think it does.  The other songs are good, I hate that Sex and Candy song.  Poppies for instance is a nice one.  What he says happened is that the main guy got too big for his britches and built his own studio just like what this guy has.  He thought he could do it all but failed because he didn't have someone over his shoulder saying "that doesn't work".  Second album tanked and that was that.

Oh, and they used the cover that was supposed to be for the Butthole Surfers album (After the Astronaut) for their second album, that was an uncool move though it was the labels fault as they just showed them artwork saying they could use it.

Must be as it seems that Sonick doesn't like Canadian bands. Probably why they booted his ass out for awhile. Eventually, Canada gave up and just kicked him back over the border.

Ironically, I'm listening to a Canadian band as I type.

I remember Marcy Playground.  Their first album was sweet, it was one of my favorites at the tiem.  Its one of the few cds I've ever owned that I could listen to it the whole way through, whcih is something I definitely can't say about bloc party or the kaiser chiefs.

I wish the Kaiser Chiefs had come out the same time as Marcy Playground...because they'd be gone and forgotten by now also.

I have an album, they are bad, but not worse than Bloc Party.
