Title: thunder sheet/ percussion tools
Post by: tigersscareme on May 18, 2007, 03:33:00 pm
I'm looking for a thunder sheet/rectangular sabian gong.

I've called chuck levin's and house of musical traditions. I'm going to try drums unlimited next...where do you go for your weird percussive needs?

I have built drums out of 50 gallon drums before.

luckily, a 20" drum head fits just fine.

i think you're right 'tho. I'm going to have to  get a thicker gauge of flashing.

 thanks

my kind of thread! of course, it won't top double digits in replies.

tigers, i usually go to the house of musical traditions every few months to pick up a gong or tibetal bells and bowls, shakers, etc. chuck levin's has a bunch of cool shit, too. the guitar centers round here are weak, but they do have some basic stuff.

i'm a big fan of playing found objects, and if you're creative and resourceful, you can figure out a way to generate sound out of almost anything. one of my favorite recent tricks is rollong beads on my snare and cymbals, especially when they're attached to contact mics.
