If the list looked any different it wouldn't be NARM.
-
26. ALANIS MORISSETTE â?? JAGGED LITTLE PILL â?? 1995
FUCK YEAH.
but shouldn't the acoustic re-release from 10 years later certainly be #27? or maybe even higher!?

Now there's the first sensible idea I've heard all day!

Why care about lists like these? Look who wrote it. You can't criticize because its someone else's opinion - most "best of" lists are.

Wasn't the acoustic version exclusive to Starbucks, at least at first? They're not a record store (or are they? (http://www.hearmusic.com/#NOW_PLAYING)) so I don't think they would belong to NARM. NARM and its members often get pissed when artists release exclusives at non-record stores. A couple of years ago, Tower pulled all Lenny Kravitz stock when he released an exclusive at Target.

Well, it was mostly copies of his new CD that wasn't even selling anyway, so I don't think Lenny alone brought down Tower.
A former Annapolis manager said he loved the irony of a customer complaining about high prices while drinking a $5 cup of coffee (he agreed about the CD prices, however).

You know, I get tired of all the jokes about how expensive Starbucks coffee is. Saying that a "cup of coffee" costs $5 at Starbucks is completely inaccurate. You can get a cup of actual brewed coffee for about a buck fifty at Starbucks. It's the specialty espresso drinks like lattes and mochas and such that cost four or five bucks, and those kinds of drinks cost that much no matter where you go. Whether it's a little independent coffee shop or a corporate chain like Starbucks or Carribou, you're going to pay around $5 for those drinks. So when I see Starbucks getting singled out time and time again, I get a bit annoyed.
-
I guess definitive is NARM code for any album that allows us to keep our doors open... It's safe to assume all those albums are platinum, which would explain why none of the early R.E.M. albums made the cut.

But who goes there just for regular coffee. I always go to check out the chicks.
-
That may be true, but at the end of the day, Belle and Sebastian are still a popular band, and Bright Eyes is still a dork. Oh, your eyes, they're so bright!

With the exception of the Kenny G album and Metallica-Metallica, I have every album posted in this thread - most of them in vinyl. I rather enjoyed most of them at one time or another in my life.
-
i bet you have 127. CHRISTINA AGUILERA â?? CHRISTINA AGUILERA too
-
What?! no love for C&C Music Factory?
-
vansmack, you disappoint me. I thought you are the King.

Of course I do, although Smackette likes it a lot more than I do. I wasn't actually referring to the list, I was just referring to the albums mentioned in this thread. There are ~50 albums on that list that I DON'T own.

I don't think it's much of a secret that I listen to more pop music than most on this board. I give anything a chance...
-
95. CREED â?? HUMAN CLAY
111. RADIOHEAD--OK COMPUTER
Yeah...
-
as with most lists there some true gems on it... but overall there is a bunch of overstated hughly selling titles here. isn't St. Peppers considered by some to be the most over rated of the beatles releases?
This is considered Definitive?

2. Mighty Wings - Cheap Trick
3. Playing With The Boys - Kenny Loggins
4. Lead Me On - Teena Marie
5. Take My Breath Away (Theme) - Berlin
6. Hot Summer Nights - Miami Sound Machine
7. Heaven In Your Eyes - Loverboy
8. Through The Fire - Larry Greene
9. Destination Unknown - Marietta
10. Top Gun Anthem - Harold Faltermeyer/Steve Stevens (TRUE instrumental)
How about whats missing from this list as a start...
Depeche Mode - "Violator", Crowded House - "Crowded House", Garden State Soundtrack, etc

A while ago, I was fairly surprised at how high this song was on the Nike+ running list, but thankfully it has since fallen out of the top 10. I thought, are there really that many middle-aged male runners out there with the complete Nike package? Surely nobody else would want to run to that song.
Then I thought to myself, they are probably the only one's that could afford a Nano, Nike+ and the nike shoes required to go with it...

On some real shit, though. I love where Thriller is at. (Best album ever made in my humble opinion, we'll get on that another day) I love that where "Dark Side" is as well. There should be NO Aguilera (she's a GREAT singer & one of the better ones out, but she is not releasing anything that belongs in any top 200 countdown - unless it's TRL's greatest hits), no Creed-NONE!, that's not even Santana's best album, wrong Metallica album (even so, much as I fucks with Metallica NONE of their albums belong in the top 50), love the Stones entry, Kenny G . . . .ahhh, fuck it. Thread starter correct. This list does pretty much suck ass . . .

This list is about sales more than you think you know. It was authored by NARM (http://www.narm.com/esam/AM/Template.cfm?section=Home7): "The list was chosen by a committee of music retailers within NARM." The banner gif even alludes to quantity over quality:
<img src="http://www.narm.com/images/D200Banner.gif" alt=" - " />
"You" are the retailers that belong to the association, not music fans who stumble onto the website.

Regarding Rap Album Placement: who the hell would actually rank Will Smith's "Big Willie Style" ahead of "It Takes A Nation of Millions...?"
That list just gets weirder as the numbers get higher....

That's the kinda bullshit that'll make me get to revoking folks' hip-hop licenses.
-
director - did you have a peep at the NARM director & staph lists that beetsnotbeats posted? is there really any question why these people would be all over big willie style, and threatened by Public Enemy? i can assure you those people were never licensed for hip hop. should be a crime.
-
At least this list is better than NAMBLA's Definitive Top 200.
-
since this board can't get enough of "best ever" lists: http://acclaimedmusic.net/ (http://acclaimedmusic.net/) is a meta-list of other people's best albums (http://acclaimedmusic.net/061024/1948-02a.htm) and best songs (http://acclaimedmusic.net/061024/1948-02s.htm) lists. "indie" bands did rather well in 2006 (http://acclaimedmusic.net/061024/2006s.htm):
2006 Rank/All Time Rank/Artist/Single
1 36 Gnarls Barkley Crazy
2 241 Justin Timberlake My Love
3 315 T.I. What You Know
4 427 The Raconteurs Steady As She Goes
5 431 Peter Bjorn and John Young Folks
6 496 TV on the Radio Wolf Like Me
7 604 Hot Chip Over and Over
8 614 Nelly Furtado Promiscuous
9 731 Christina Aguilera Ain't No Other Man
10 740 The Killers When You Were Young
11 782 Justin Timberlake Sexy Back
