I'm taking a jump start course on Monday and the BRC in July. Going shopping for gear this weekend--any advice/favorite shops? Should I go with a pink or leopard/white motif?

are those really serious considerations? *sigh*
if so, i guess the pink then...but i'm really anti-anything animal print.
-
i like the pink one!
-
Not quite those exact jackets but I'm considering either pink or leopard for my jacket/helmet. I would never go with a full leopard print jacket-maybe a white one with the print as a detail.

What color bike?? You gear must always coordinate with your bike.....evidently. (HD excepted)

no bike yet. just taking classes.

Is that the MD motorcycle safety course where you get your DL at the end if you pass?
If it is it's an excellent course. I took it even though I had been riding for over 15 years at the time but had been off the bike for a couple of years, so took it as a refresher. I think it should be mandatory for anyone wanting a motorcyle permit.

6949, if you're a chick, then I like the pink one. If you're a dood, either of those are ghey.
-
the pink is totally cute!

Is there a similar course for DC residents?
-
I'm taking classes at Nova now for practice and will then take the class in MD for my DL in the fall. September was the first MVA course I could get in to. If you live in MD you have to take the course in MD for your license.
I'm not sure about DC (http://nm.msf-usa.org/msf/ridercourses.aspx?state=DC).
VA (http://nm.msf-usa.org/msf/ridercourses.aspx?state=VA)
MD (http://nm.msf-usa.org/msf/ridercourses.aspx?state=MD)

are you taking MSF??? I hope so..
You want gear... go here:
www.newenough.com (http://www.newenough.com)
this place is AWESOME, and they have great deals on closeouts. I also know some other sites that are good as well. and if you are a female rider, chances are you're going to find even better deals on leather(s) and products cause less people buy them.
Don't buy a helmet online unless you have tried on that exact size and model in a store first.
feel free to ask me more questions..

^Thanks and yes on the MSF. Any local (chick friendly) store you can recommend?
-
I'll send you a private message.
What maker of jacket is that by the way?

Is that "my boy" as in child, servant or someone you're dating?

If you're really serious about riding, you should probably select your gear based on the level of protection it offers and not the fashionista points. I'm a chick and I ride; most of the time I ride in Joe Rocket textile gear, usually with kevlar inserts. It's all fine and good if you end up with a "cute" or "pretty" jacket but it's a LOT more important that the jacket can keep your skin on when you lay the bike down. A lot of people buy stuff so it matches their bike (ugh) or has some cutesy print or Hello Kitty or equally stupid reason, and it's flimsy leather or pleather, no padding, and won't protect you in a crash. And proper gear includes pants and gloves, not just a jacket.
If you can't take motorcycing seriously enough to select the proper gear, then you really shouldn't be riding. There is a lot of potential danger out there and you need every advantage you can get.

I completely agree with you on the safety aspect. I'm taking the basic rider course twice in two different locations just so I get a lot of practice in. I thought leather would be more durable than mesh. When shopping around online it looked like each style came in different color options from black to pink so why wouldn't I opt for a girly one? The jacket (http://www.amazon.com/TOURMASTER-CORTECH-WOMENS-LEATHER-MOTORCYCLE/dp/B000KRCN4O/ref=sr_1_5/002-4482119-4333611?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1180188431&sr=8-5) I showed pics of above has armor in it and a slew of other safety specs that I don't understand yet so I'm not just trying to look cute.
Hell men hate female drivers, they'd probably give me more room on the road if they see me coming in pink. :-)

Do they still make Belstaf jackets? Or are they just in Europe?
