anyone know whether Pete Doherty will be touring with them or has he been kicked out of the band (again)? I saw the original lineup about a year and a half ago in Philly and the show was great. Don't know how good it would be without Pete, though.
-
Pete Doherty was not with the band last week when I saw them in SF. Anthony Rossamondo is filling in on guitar. They were still excellent.
This guy (http://www.sfindependent.com/article/index.cfm/i/100404a_libertines) didn't even notice that Pete wasn't there. Of course, my email, and that of countless others I'm sure, caused the correction at the bottom. What an ass.

Somehow I doubt that Pete was at Philly either. He was not on that libertines tour......
As he has had recent jail-time and a suspended sentence for carrying a big fucking knife I would say that he wont be Coming to America (eye to eye) anytime soon.
But that review is hilarious.

pete won't be with the band, he's touring with his own band babyshambles in england. i just saw the libertines in nyc on tuesday and they're still fantastic. i also don't think pete has played with the band in america ever.. or, if he has, very few times.
-
I think it's only once that Pete has played in America. A one-off stop in New York city that was their first visit to the states ever. By the time their actual tour came back around to the states a few months later, he was no longer with the band. After he left jail and they started touring together again all over Britain I got excited that i'd finally get to see the Libs w/ Pete, but no, he walks out again. I keep small hopes that Pete will randomly decide to jump on board and show up at one of these gigs in america, but since he's touring w/ babyshambles, I really doubt it.

Is this show in danger of selling out in advance?

yeah, when i was studying in london in the spring, i made it a point to see the libertines because pete was still with them. both times were incredible shows. but carl can hold his own very well. still wish pete'd come to his senses though..

reading between the lines, does Pete just leave the band before they tour the US because he knows he wont get a work visa?
It is much more dramatic and interesting to keep leaving and rejoining than just moaning about Visa issues because you are an ex-con.

"Pete" doesn't really exist.
It's like that Randy Fitzsimmons thing.
-
That would make sense. His "problems" are half the reason for the bands popularity.

I definitely saw Pete play with the Libertines in Philly. It was at a little place called North Star Bar in Philly. I couldn't tell you what neighborhood, because I don't know Philly too well. It was part of a 4 or 5 show tour. They played NY, played either Letterman or Conan, played Philly, and I think one other place. It was definitely Pete because I was right next to the stage. My friend heard that the tour was so short because of "visa difficulties". I don't know if that was the real case or not. The show was 1.5 - 2 years ago.
Great show, I remember Pete repeatedly kicking over his mic stand and the roadie starting to look pretty pissed. This wasn't too long after their Coachella show where they played for 5 minutes before the cops turned the power off because of the late hour.
-
Hmm, perhaps you did, that mini tour sounds familiar, and i forgot about the coachella show, so my words to you are....YOU LUCKY EFFIN' BASTARD! and to respond to Rhett, their popularity is mostly due to the fact that they are an incredibly talented energetic and earnest rock band...at least they are that when Pete doesn't hijack the whole process with his self-centred antics. Their debut album was a great mix of balls to the wall rock and decent melody. Of course, the NME is probably drooling over the fact that one of the bands that they've recently heralded as "the best new band ever!!!", as they tend to do every 14 seconds, has turned into one long soap opera. This way they get to tease everyone with ambiguous titles to their articles like...Pete rejoins the libs!

Yes, but the bad boy publicity doesn't hurt either in terms of popularity. Look what it's don'e for Ryan Adams in terms of raising him from the alt-country ghetto.

Are the Libertines still likely to sell out? I may trek to the club today to buy tickets if so.

At this juncture it is looking as though there might be tickets available at the door...maybe.

Ryan Adams had a drug/stealing problem? I'm not being facetious, if so, it wasn't all that well covered in the media. Or maybe I was just too distracted by his hair and attitude...

I'm just saying: Act like an asshole, and you'll get more attention.
Has worked wonders for Pete, Ryan, and myself.

According to DC9's web page, The Libertines are going to be hanging out over there after their show next week.
DC9 (http://www.dcnine.com)

Wow. This poses a problem for me. How the heck do I get back to College Park since I won't be able to take the metro back after hangin' w/ Barat and company at DC9? Takin' a taxi is so frickin' dear, but i'm not sure i see an alternative.
-
Okay, question -- haven't I read here before that Radio 4 blows, especially live? Just wondering if I should get there before they go on, or pop in during their set.
-
i like radio 4, weren't bad opening for ted leo, heard ungood things about the new record, though
-
eh okay i've seen the libertines/radio 4 twice now, and radio 4 is alright live. the bassist creeps me out, the guy who plays bongos and cowbell cracks me up. i don't think you'd be missing much if you showed up late, though. i reviewed the new record for my radio station, it's not bad but all the songs begin to sound the same after a while...
oh! and can someone give me directions to dc9 from the 9:30 club? i'm gonna be a zombie driving back to richmond after that but it'd be a good time anyway.
NEVERMIND: it looks like it's pretty close, i think we could walk there?
-
it's a block, one can see the entrance of dc9 from the 9:30 club
-
excellent, thank you!
