Anyone have an idea about set times for the two stages? I've tried searching around the net and Cure and Curiosa's website with no luck.

the cure play @ 9:30 til... whenever robert's peruvian marching powder runs out.
(that's the only time you should worry about)

try www.chainofflowers.com (http://www.chainofflowers.com) they have anything you'd ever wanna know about the cure on the site... incl the latest on that boil on robert's ass he had lanced and a robert smith nose-hair count- broken down by the nostral.

i think he (and me) was looking for a complete lineup.  what happens at 6pm and on the 2nd stage, cause I know I have to get off work early if i want to see anything before 7pm.

if Muse goes on at 6pm and i dont know, I'll murder LOTS of people.

So this means you got tickets, Sonick?  And I was gonna give you my freebies if I got 'em...

based on the 11pm curfew at Merriweather I would guess the cure hit the stage at 9pm...

if the reviews grotty posted are any indication then the bands alternate between second and main stage starting at 5pm... but having no idea how long of set each band is getting could not guess when muse is playing, although it would appear they are headliner for the second stage.

No, i dont have tickets yet. and i STILL dont know if i can afford em.  I am waiting to see how much OT i can work this week. and if Muse isnt playing wicked early.

I'll probably decide Fri morn.  unless I win the tickets   :)

Yes, Muse is very much a priority along with Mogwai   :)

Set times are important because we all know how easy it's going to be to get to Merriweather on a Friday afternoon!

looks like the main stage has pretty much been
Mogwai, Rapture, Interpol and The Cure in that order, so i would say 6pm, 7pm, 8:15, 9:30 kinda deal.  the 2nd stage is odd cause it changes city by city.

According to the NY Times, the bands play basically consecutively for half hour each on the two stages, so there's just about always music and everyone has a chance to see every band.  If the Cure's set is 2 hours (which is the Randalls Island set length), they'd be on at 9:00.  I know, key is what order the bands are playing.  ???

I think it is safe to say I would only go if it were free. But a number of bands peak my interest. As does hanging out in the back bar and getting drunk. Course, you do have to get home somehow....

Let's make that a monorail with a bike path underneath!
 hmm... drunk biking...

i too think i'll go if i get free tickets, but the sheer cost of taking time off work is keeping me from buying them.  To be realistic, one would have to take nearly a half-day off on Friday to catch this show.  Suck.

How about a bike trail the whole way from Pittsburgh to D.C.?!
 Oh wait...we already have that.

I'm not understanding why so many folks think you have to take a whole day or half day off for this show...I work downtown, we're leaving at 4:00 (unless I can get someone to leave at 3:00 with me), we'll be there before 5:00, and no bands have even started yet.

perhaps not everyone works at the same place (or the same hours) as you.  I know ppl who work 10am-6pm or even 11am-7pm.  Depending on where you are driving from its going to take more than 1 hour to get from door to door on a Friday afternoon!

Also, some people can only take either a 1/2 or whole day from work, not just a couple hours here or there.

is that hard to understand?  not everyone lives in "bags' world"

Ouch, I just can't not piss you off, can I...I was actually asking a real question, why so many seemed to think you needed a whole half day off.  I work 9:30 - 6:30 myself, but taking two hours is allowable (didn't know about the half or whole day issue).

Seemed, though, like a lot of folks believed you had to leave super early (in other threads and on other boards) -- Merriweather is way better than Nissan for getting in and parking, and it's actually midway for the B'more folks.  I guess it's working in my world so I should just shut up.

you didnt piss me off, i just wanted to point out that we all have different schedules. Hell, some of my friends (bartenders and such) would have to take off work altogether! and on a friday night, thats pricey!

I think a lot of people are concerned about traffic.   I think an hour to get from downtown out to MPP may be a bit optimistic on a Friday night.

Speaking of, I haven't been in a while -- what's the best way to get there from downtown?

The directions from the  website (http://www.merriweathermusic.com/directions.html) all take you on 495 and I-95; can this be avoided?

From the Washington DC area and points South:
Take DC Beltway 495 to I-95 North towards Baltimore.
 Proceed 16.2 miles.
Merge onto MD-32 West exit 38B toward Columbia.
Exit onto Rt. 29 North, exit 16A.
Take the Broken Land Parkway North exit towards Merriweather.
Do not take the Broken Land Parkway exit you see earlier while on MD-32 West.
 Merge onto Broken Land Parkway.
Turn right at first stoplight into Main Parking Area.

Alternate route from the Washington DC area:
Take DC Beltway 495 to I-95 North towards Baltimore.
Pass exit 38B, go two more exits.
 Exit onto Route 100 West.
 Proceed to Route 29 South.
Turn right onto South Entrance Road.
Turn left onto Symphony Woods Road.
 Follow to Main Parking Area.

I usually take New York Avenue to BW Parkway and get off at the Columbia exit. But on a Friday afternoon it can be quite busy as I found a couple of years ago for the Depeche Mode concert.

You could take 29-North all the way instead of 95/495. That's what I plan on doing.  There will still be traffic though.

this is the route i took to the neil young show and drove right into the parking lot...  in theory you'll avoid some of the dc folks which follow the 29 route and where the bottle neck typically is.

then again seeing as you can get row kk in the center the show is selling kinda slow

Actually, if you come from the south and ignore this:

you can avoid 29 altogether.  I used that route all the time when I lived up there.

It's probably selling pretty well.  There were only Lawn tickets available for a couple of weeks. I imagine the pavilion is gonna be full by showtime.

I was wondering if there was any news on how the show is selling...it is amazing.  We were all hot and bothered about getting presale tickets (granted, we went for pavillion...).

So are folks planning on the 932 deal?  Doesn't sound like many of us will be there early, but I'll definitely go by a couple times for a refreshing beer.

Pay very close attention to his singing/screaming.  If you find it annoying on the album, believe me, even the danceable beats won't make up for him live.

There's just no telling.  I took that route a few fridays back, and it was a breeze until I got north of B'more.  Sometimes 95 sucks, sometimes BW Pkwy sucks.  It's all a crap shoot.

Well if you are going to be exposing some hairy hangers, me and the missus will have to go. Can we have a cheek each?

Since this was the thread with all the driving talk...anyone else think it may not really be all that bad getting into MPP, as I'll bet the window during which folks arrive is quite long.  Folks will be arriving, generally, from 3:00 - 7:00...suddenly I'm not as stressed.

Getting out, another story (but by then, who cares -- IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!)
