help me decide, thinking about hitting up:
akron/family @ knitting factory
-- anyone seen these guys before? kind of dreamy psych-folk like older MMJ without as much reverb, not sure how boring it would be live
alec ounsworth @ tonic
-- supposedly not playing CYHSY stuff, just solo acoustic guitar songs, but i really like his voice
camper van beethoven @ bowery ballroom
-- this may seem like the obvious choice to a lot of people, but i just never got into them that much
misshapes @ don hills (tom vek guest DJ)
anyone know of any other hotspots for this saturday?

take the train to Brooklyn and go see Summer Lawns at the North Six. great great band and the north six is a pretty kick ass place :)
i was gonna go up for this show, but i have a deadline at work , ugh.

akron/family ... boring live act? ha! their record is not much at all like their live show. they are fucking insane. played for nearly two hours for about 30 of us at iota in december. runs the gamut from heavy, tripped out psych to animal collective-ish campfire singalongs. and really, just about everything in between. those dudes are crazy.

sweet, i had just heard a couple of songs on myspace, didn't know which way they were going ... this might be the favorite ...

Is akron/family Michael Gira? If so, I'd go see that.
-
Isn't the Lion King playing on Broadway of something?
Seriously though...if there's not anything you're madly into seeing, there's plenty of other stuff to do in NYC.
But I guess you should take full advantage of the nonsmoking atmosphere while you're there!
Cheers,
DJ Rhett

Go see The Longcut play at TISWAS (http://www.tiswasnyc.com/Tiswas/html/live2.html). Mani of Stone Roses/Primal Scream djing. I was planning on going but now I have a friend's birthday thing I can't miss. Arrr.

Explanation of Lion King reference:
I once went to London with someone who I thought was a "hip" girlfriend, and when we got there, she was rather vocal about wanting to get $75 tickets to the fucking Lion King show. Yuck. Fortunately, all the shows were sold out, and we broke up not long after landing in the States.

I'm talking about nightlife options ... I could go out to some shitty post-frat bar in murray hill, or I could go to a show or a cool party that plays music I enjoy ... it's not like i'm choosing between MOMA and a club
but any suggestions would be much appreciated (although i have no plans on seeing the lion king)

hoya, akron/family all the way. i think the openers wooden wand & mi & l'au are both great. a sweet triple bill if you ask me. also when you're there, keep an eyeball out for this fella -

Misshapes if Steve Aoki is DJing...I'm not sure whether he's in LA this weekend or not, but I know he's in NYC for most of this week...

Hey, I'll be up there with my girlfriend this weekend too. I'm not sure what we'll be doing, except I think we're going to spend Sunday eating cupcakes and travel uptown to see the Chronicles of Narnia.

I've never been to either. I wanted to go just to see The Longcut. Next weekend is Editors, so hopefully the music + djing will be rockin.

I was at MisShapes! once we found it after hitting up Luke and Leroy's. Good times, like a Liberation dance party x 10.

Anyone else going up for the Editors show Saturday?
