Looks like they have managed some US coverage.

Man, I couldn't agree with the lead paragraph of that review more. It's amazing these days how often I describe a new band as "retro" -- be it retro garage or retro new wave or retro indie punk. Crazy shit.
"2003 is a confusing, chaotic time for the average music fan. New genres are being birthed at an alarming rate and existing ones are being endlessly subdivided. Some might consider these new derivations exciting, but increasingly it's starting to feel like a chore to keep up. The situation has gotten particularly out of hand in the indie realm, where a movement that might have felt fresh only a year ago is already starting to go stale. (Hello, Jet and Star Spangles!) Part of the problem is the marketing, which has taken a more aggressive and insidious form, but even more troubling has been the sheer volume. Almost as soon as a band shows any kind of commercial success, their style is xeroxed and applied to yet another fledgling act. Rinse and repeat until any and all originality has been drained from the paradigm. "

The Mank likes them so they must be shite...right?

Hey, I'm open. But I'm averse to making purchases based on good reviews these days; I just got burned by Cursive's "The Ugly Organ." Man was *that* shite.
Rain Band reviews from the board?

Well, mankie likes em! :D Probably don't have longevity though, because their music is a bit one dimensional.

I like The Rain Band a lot and have been talking about them on this board for months. But Mankie does have a point. In order for them to survive, they will need to find a few other musical areas to explore. They do that with a couple songs on the album which are more Dance-like, and the ones that I like the least. But that's just my taste. I've been into them for quite awhile now and have been able to hear the progression of the band which gives me lots of hope as I can hear a much more mature and focused sound, though that is mostly studio driven.
Bags, try to listen to the songs Knee Deep & Down and The World Is Ours...my favorites. Also check out The Runaways, Into The Light, Lucifer and Fist Of Fury. Fist Of Fury is going to be their next single.
Just got the limited digipack edition of the Knee Deep & Down single the other day. A friend of mine in London had some extra copies and sent me one along with a Mark Gardner (of Ride) promo and a promo of Doves doing Space Face at the Eden Festival last year. Doves management sent me the Space Face promo too. :D
Rhett wouldn't like them but anyone who tends to like the Manchester scene would probably like The Rain Band. I turned Rotten's friend onto them and he went out of his way to thank me, so there's another one for you. (Rotten, I've got info for your friend to hook him up with management. It might help if he uses me as a reference since they know me and they know that I've gotten them a lot of British fans.)
Not that this has anything to do with the music but they are all nice looking, especially Richard Nancollis who is hot. :D (Don't go by the drummer because they don't have a permanent drummer and use different ones.)
I wouldn't reccomend Sussed for anyone but hardcore collectors or those who really like their style. They are very Northern with a bit of a Skiffle sound to their music with their local hit being I've Got Me Parka. It's okay just for fun but nothing to go out of your way for.

Oh shit....let me re-evaluate what I think about them. Ok, I used to like The Rain Band until they became dad-rock!

I don't know but it's pretty old. For all I know, it could be a cover but yeah, it's the same song.

I'd be the bandleader if I get that song = )
-

And what would I be? :D
Ah, the power that I hold now. :D I have all kinds of rare Doves songs including several different versions of Space Face. I have Analog Bass and Blues Tune which are extremely difficult to come across. :D :D :D Oh, and I even have their new unreleased song, One Of These Days. LOLOLOLOLOL
(BTW, Space Face is too big for email.)

And thanks for the address.

It only has Space Face on it and it's from last year's Eden Festival. If I remember correctly, it will be on the upcoming DVD released in the UK on Sept. 29th. Our problem is that damn regional setting thing. Guess you already know about that and that some of the songs from Lost Sides will be included though not some of the better songs.
Just don't be paying the $20 or whatever I'm hearing the Space Face promo was going for on ebay. It's a great live tune and a nice collectors item but way overpriced for a free promo. Now if you find Lost Sides for that, I guarantee you I can find a buyer.
-
no kidding, that buyer would be me :D
I would assume you have already been here http://www.foreverftp.com/ (http://www.foreverftp.com/)

and from the articule bob posted....
The Rain Band know something about this game; their lead singer, Richard Nancollis, played it once before as the front man for Sussed, a shoddy Oasis knockoff. The short-lived Manchester band released a couple of singles before Be Here Now effectively dropped the curtain on the Britpop era. Few come back from such a wipeout, but Nancollis has not only assembled a new band but appears to have learned all the right lessons: that it doesn't pay to blindly follow trends in search of success and that nothing truly worth fighting for ever comes cheap.

Oh, yeah. That's Starblow's site.
It's a very good site but she's a total bitch. She's the one who refused to believe that the US release of the limited edition of The Last Broadcast included the bonus disc even when I proved it by it being printed on the disc and the sleeve that it was printed in the US. (Long boring story.) Someone just got pissed at her last week because of a really old post of her's where she was very nasty to someone else. LOL. It was the above incident that finally sent her packing. Good ridance!
