Title: The Good, The Bad, and the Queen
Post by: akaash on March 11, 2007, 10:07:00 am
Is anyone opening?

And if not, does anyone know when it should be over?

if it hasn't been added by now i don't think there is an opener. Cat Power didn't have an opener.

Will it be over by the time the last Metro leaves?  I'm coming down from Pennsylvania.  I think most 9:30 club shows do end before then but I've been to at least one that didn't.

This thread would've gotten a better answer in the faq section. I was just about to post the same questions there right before seeing it here.

Is there a Metro that goes all the way to Pennsylvania now? Wow, I didn't realize that.

Most shows at 930 end after midnight or it gets out with little time to run to the metro. I'd suggest just driving there if you dont wanna leave the show early.

Well, the last train leaves for Glenmont at 12:19 A.M.  So if I get to U Street/Cardozo by 11:30-11:40, I think I should be ok.

I am considering driving down to be safe, though.

Brian have you considered using the Greenbelt Metro station instead of Glenmont?

The last train from U street on the Green Line towards Greenbelt leaves at 12:21am, which means you don't need to change trains.  It's also only a 20 minute trip.

Plus you are able to get on and off the Beltway quicker from the station

Brian,

I'm very confused. You said you're driving down from Pennsylvania but you mentioned taking the Glenmont metro? Is your hotel near Glenmont?
 Please explain!

I live right over the PA/MD border.  It's nearest to Westminster, MD.  From Westminster, I just go south on 97 for about an hour (through Olney) and hit Glenmont.  The last stop on the Red line (going East.)  I think people who use Greenbelt are those who come from Philly.

Fair enough... I was just mentioning Greenbelt because it gives the option of catching a later train north.

Brian,

Why not just drive to the 9:30 Club and park? Either in the neighborhood, or in the 9:30 parking lot? It's not like taking the Metro from Glenmont is going to save you either time or money.

How early does the parking lot open?  I took the entire day off and was going to spend the day at the zoo and the museums.

Thanks to everyone for their help,

i'd think that the parking lot would open at the same time as the doors for that evening's show (usually around 7:00).

If you are there all day, you can easily find a spot on the street in front of the club (or across the street).  From there, it is a short walk to the metro and checking out the sights.

Just don't leave anything of value visible.

Yes.  That's why I'm stymied by the options.

 1. I'd use the 9:30 lot but I'm spending the day in DC and that lot doesn't open until around 6 or 7 doesn't it?

 2. I could just find a parking space on the street but I'd have to feed the meter every couple of hours and...ummm...my car would be on the street unattended for about fifteen hours.

 3. I could find a parking garage but I'd have to pay $20-$30 wouldn't I?

That's why I like taking the Metro.  Compared to other public transportation in some other East Coast cities, the DC Metro is first rate.  It's just that I hope I don't miss the last train if the band runs long.

And to be honest with you, if they do run long, I think I'll just leave before the end.  I like the CD but I'd rather not be stuck in D.C.

Thanks for everyone's help.  I guess I'll think of something.

 Brian

VIA the FAQ forum:

 Doors 7:30
Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey 8:30
The Good, The Bad and The Queen 9:30

So it sounds like you have plenty of time.
