aaah yes, wisdom teeth are the proverbial bitch
My wife is still haunted by the sight of me regaining consciousness after the surgery, and trying to talk to her, only to have blood ooze from my mouth
Percoset was my friend that week

I feel your pain, brother. About 4 or 5 years ago i had all four of my wisdom teeth removed--at the same time. What a messy, drooling mess I was. My mouth was so numb that when I swallowed a half dozen painkillers I inevitably swallowed the half dozen bloody pieces of gauze that were stuffed in my mouth. Wanna talk fun? Try that. On the plus side, I saved all four teeth. They inhabit a nice little corner of my jewelry box. Seriously.

You guys are such kids. I'm more worried about false teeth than wisdom teeth.

When I had two removed, they said the other two would be just fine-- impacted, never to reveal themselves. They were wrong, and I got to go through the ordeal TWICE. fun.

man, wisdom teeth removal was a breeze. I was knocked out and didn't feel a thing all day. only thing that bothered me was the antibiotic...so I just didn't take it. I got really swollen though, but that didn't bother me either. I looked cuter that way. like a chipmunk.
-
I still have 4 baby teeth and my wisdom teeth.
That should just about explain how I feel about dentists.
-
I got very lucky with my wisdom teeth, no swelling and slept for three days on tylenol 3.
-
I had three pulled the day after my last exam of my junior year of college -- I was already in such a haze, I didn't know what was going on and whether it was sleep deprivation or the teeth thing...

Ice - ten minutes on, ten minutes off.
Vicodin
Shoegazin'
Get to it.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled the day after getting my ass beat all to hell in the pit at a Suicidal Tendencies show at the old 9:30 Club. I am told the people in the waiting room were aghast when I came out because in addition to the jaw and face swelling one of my blackened eyes was swollen shut and the other had that cool "blood-in-the-whites-of-the-eye" thing going as a result of my ass whooping.
-
Had all four done back in '95. When I woke up from my "twilight", I asked the surgeon if I looked like Brad Pitt now. Apparently, I believed I had just had some major plastic surgery.
Two words: dry sockets.
Avoid straws (and related suction devices) like the plague.

It'll get better in a couple of days.
I went to HFStival two days after I got mine out. My face was HUUUUUUUGE and I felt funny.
I never had problems with pain, thanks to the painkillers, but I couldn't eat for two days because the pills made me throw up.
-
i feel alright i guess.. the first day was a breeze (no swelling, no pain) but today i am all puffed up and kinda feel like shit. no more painkillers for me- too hard on the system. just lots of tylenol/motrin/etc. tons of icepacks too. i just hope i'm better by the weekend. possible?
i have all of my four teeth too, i had to make sure they saved em. apparently when i woke up from the anesthesia, i was curtsey-ing and high fiving everyone in the office/elevator. i also had these weird cysts behind all of my teeth -- first words the dentist said "ITS NOT CANCER" - however, just hearing that word made me freak out and i almost broke into hysterics. oh well.
-
DENTISTS ALL SUCK. It's always bad news one way or another. How else would they make their cash money?
-
Had 2 cut out and 2 pulled out all in the same day. Was told that I walked out of the office with a smile on my face. Went home and took a nap for about an hour or so. Woke up and ate a beautiful giant rare steak with a salad and all of the trimmings. Took me forever but ate every single bite and it was delicious!!!
The doctor gave me percodan and I never ate so good as when I was on that stuff. The only difficult food to eat were sandwiches because I couldn't open my mouth far enough to stuff them inside. The secret to eating the other foods was to use the front teeth and allow the saliva to disolve some of the food. Lots of small bites too.
-
Day one of removal was the greatest. If I could go get setup like that for a hundred bucks, hell I'd do it once a month.Loopy. All the rest kind of sucks but just keep busy. And try to get to solid foods fast if you can. For two or three days my gut felt like a coffee percolator whew. Naking the proverbial Deuce Juice. (too much info..?..?)
This was a couple weeks ago and I feel fine now, just be sparing with the pill and try and sleep.
Bastard dentist kept my teeth. He probably wears them, having found the origin of my superpowers I know it, the bitch.
Maybe I'm weird but I thought the whole experience was fun. Course I don't get out of the house much besides work and band.
Have fun on drugs if they didn't stiff you with Codene.

The best thing about having all your wisdom teeth is that afterwards you have those little pockets in the back of your mouth. Try popping in several tic-tacs. They'll last forever in there. It's kinda cool. :p

That's kind of like the scene in Weird Science where Anthony Michael Hall got drunk in the bar and started speaking jive with the pimps and pool hustlers.

I used to be in a band with a guy that was in dental school down in Richmmond. The students there would practice on people that couldn't afford real dental care. He saved a bunch of the teeth he'd pulled and had them made into a necklace...a strand of human teeth! Once he wore the neclace to some sort of dental school function. He said it was like a 50/50 split between those who thought the necklace was pretty funny and those thought it was tacky and tasteless. Wonder what ever happened to good old Ray?
I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was 15 or so. I couldn't save them cuz they were impacted. When they're impacted they have to smash them up into little bits before they pull them out. It makes for an extra fun procedure! Afterwords I felt like I'd been hit by a truck and had terrible migraines for a couple days, but all things considered I guess my recovery could have been worse.

Oh that walking around for the first half hour is the greatest. I was cracking jokes, pointing and smiling, waving, honking the horn while my brother drove me home. Great plus I made sure to play it up. Old beaten jacket and a scarf hiding hald my face. Priceless I wish they took pictures of the whole deal. Well I do have two more...
Oh well I can still have my Percoset.
Maybe I will

Somewhere I've got a pic my mom took of me when I got home from the Dr....I'm passed out on the couch with my mouth wide open looking greasy as hell. Plus, I've got this wierd ice pack contraption tied around my head made out of a peir of pantyhose. Maybe my mom was just trying to make me look like an idiot???
-
I staggered out of the doc's office on the arm of my mother. I stumbled past some old guy who quickly got out of my way. He probably thought I was strung out on something. Actually I was...

i randomly took pictures of myself (i guess i found my digital camera in my bag?) and i'm all gooey looking and my eyes are halfway rolled back in my head or something. if i can hotlink a yahoo image maybe i'll put it up for your enjoyment.
day 3 update: no longer feeling like hammers and nails in my mouth, but the swelling is still pretty crazy. when will i stop looking like a chipmunk?

had a couple of wisdom teeth removed last year.
didn't feel a thing. painless, problemless. went nightie night when the doc zapped me with the good stuff and woke up right after it was done. only used one vicadin. still got the rest of the bottle "just in case."
-
ohhhh...so that's why i didn't get to keep mine...it didn't occur to me to ask for them afterwards, but all 4 were impacted...
glad to hear other people's horror stories...everytime i try to freak people out about how horrible it was, they come back and are like i was fine the next day...i remember waking up in the doctor's office all disoriented and they were like your mom went to fill your prescription...she finally got back and i was starving so she got me a frosty from wendy's, which was running down my chin since i still couldn't feel anything...i proceeded to eat more stuff when i got home and then promptly threw up since it wasn't mixing well with the anesthia (sp?)...i got bruises on both sides and so swollen that when i went back to work after 5 days, they were like are you ok? you still look like a chipmunk...plus my mom had this crazy idea that i would get addicted to my painkillers so she didn't want to give them to me...also it's weird when you can feel one of the threads to your stitches hanging down in your month...
-
First of all,I got one dry socket. That hurt worse than anything. Don't let those bloodclots come out. Secondly, the doc had to drill at one of my partially impacted teeth, and left a stitch in. A few dayslater I sneezed real hard and the part of my cheek he stitched came out. My only consolodation is that I still have a few percodan.
