Eels are on letterman tonight, who is heading to the show on Sunday?
-
Thanks for the tip. I may be heading there, but as money and time are highly precious things to me right now, I may have to sit it out. There just seem to be too many shows coming up lately.
Sigh, the life of a scenester isn't easy...

Well I will be there as will poorlulu. I really dont get along that well with the new album, so I will be the tool shouting bus stop boxer and world of shit.
I wonder if by the time they play next I will like shootenanny enough to shout for songs off of that?
-
i should be there. . .
-
Yeah, the new album isn't stellar, but I think it does have it's high points...however, I can't seem to remember any song names to point to.
But if you two are going to be there, maybe I will make the trek. It's been a while since I've seen either of you.

-
Man, I better make it then. And I'll try to get my hair extra squiffy.
Oh, and Venerable will be there...maybe I can't pass this up. Sniff sniff...just like the good old days.

Yep, it should be fun....Plus my boss is away that week.

I'll be there, i have the new album so i guess now would be a good time to break it open.
-
Remember to stay around after the lights are up, they do an encore at that point.
I will be there too...

I think Love of the Loveless is one of the better ones on the new release.Definitely not his best work though IMHO.

So do y'all really know each other, out in life and all? Pretty interesting...
I'm thinking most of you are up in front kind of folks at a show.

A lot of us met up together about a year or so ago.
On this thread I have not met Guiny, you or Sparx, that I know of.
Most people on here are very nice. Coldn't have hoped to have met a nicer lot of people.

A nice chunk of us now know each other, mostly because of this board. The group is continually growing. You should join us some evening.
Yeah, a lot of us are front and center kind of people. Not everyone though.
And then there are the others. The ones who are the next best thing to lurkers. They read, they post, they even sometimes come to the same shows but they are too scared to meet up with the big bad boarders. :D :p

This is very, very true as I'm sure that most of the others will also agree with. ;)

Don't worry Bags, I was afraid of all the nudity and rituals at first but once you get all doped up it becomes fun!
-
Well Markie i'll be sure and wander towards your voice at The Eel's concert. Then again i'll probably just hang out at the bar like i usually do. Nothin' beats turning around and ordering a beer rather then fighting thru the crowd towards the bar and then right back out to thru the crowd again.

As for show placement, I'm never up front anymore. Now I hang about 2/3s of the way back, center (room for dancing), or upstairs. Depends on how into the band I am, and which friends I'm with, as they all have their own preferences as well. I go to so many shows, I usually go with the flow.
So look for me -- my whole posse of concert compadres tend to dance (not in a nerdy way, of course). And thank goodness I'm kind of tall for a chick! ;)

hey who started blabing about my parties... those non-disclosure forms aren't a joke!
-
And that knife doesn't really even hurt anymore after the first slice. ;)

You know though, you've got me thinking (rarely a good thing). For those of us who haven't met all the regular boardies, if you just went by what you know from here, who would you *want* to see naked??
Hmmm.
-
I think I won't be there. I remember buying the Daisies of the Galaxy album and selling it after a few days. I am aware of all the good reviews they got about the first album, though, so I might have to investigate that one.

I had forgotten you were blindfolded that evening.

I usually hang towards the back, by the mixing board. Heck, if that is where the person mixing is hearing the sound, that is usually where it sounds best. If I am tired or lazy, upstairs and get a stool. Pretty much, if you are front and center it usually sounds pretty bad, no vocals and lots of instruments (unless it is Garbage where you hear nothing up there...).
-
And seriously, try seeing through hot wax one time. Not an easy thing...

That Guy.

Celeste. She sounds pretty hot. The Black Nerd sounded hot too, but she seems to have disappeared from the board.

So did I.

Me three.

The Black Nerd posted a naked picture of himself. I wasn't a biology major, but there was a certain appendage that indicated that the Black Nerd was likely a male.

Eels Looking Ahead To Next 'Masterpiece'
Without short-changing the recently released Eels album "Shootenanny!," band visionary Mark Everett (known as E) tells Billboard.com he's already looking forward to the group's next studio disc as being nothing short of aural perfection.
"I'm sifting through a lot of the stuff that I've recorded already and I'm just starting to plant seeds for other stuff I want to record for the next album," says Everett. "My standards are going to be very high. I feel the need to drop a masterpiece. Nothing less. This one is much more complicated." Unlike "Shootenanny!," which was recorded in 10 days, Everett says he will take his time with the next disc.
Since the band will be on the road in the U.S. through the middle of August and plans on touring internationally through the end of the year, odds are Everett won't begin recording until sometime in 2004.
Luckily, Eels are a rare group, which despite the lack of platinum success, hasn't been dropped from its major label, DreamWorks. Everett has a theory pertaining to the band's good fortune.
"In this day and age, it is sadly a rare thing for somebody to stick around this long at a major label," he says. "The same guys that run DreamWorks used to run Warner Bros. during its artistic heyday, before it all went down the crapper. They had Randy Newman, who was someone they called a 'prestige artist,' who they kind of keep around to attract other artists to the label. I might have assumed that role in their modern incarnation now, which is fine with me. I'm happy to serve whatever purpose keeps me making records, because that's all I ever want to do."
-
i'm really looking forward to this show..........and it will be a real loon gathering.........yaaaaaaaay!!!
see all'y'all there...........
-
I sam on my way from Richmond. At least two of us coming up. Maybe four. See you all there!
-
What a fantastic show! Jesus H. Christ this show was tits... Them coming back out to do yet another encore after the show was over and the house lights were already up was totally unexpected. It was a long drive home to Richmond but as always the trip to the 9:30 was more than worth the effort...
-
The show was good and E is a great entertainer, but I think the last album lent it self better to live performances, making last years show a little better
-
some the antics are wearing thin. i knew about the post-lights encore because they apparently always do it, but was just tired after a long weekend...
the "let's thrash everything" approach is also a bit much. it's clever or interesting maybe to do one quiet song as though it's being covered by metallica, but after a while it's just a big wall of noise. OTOH, that was a beautiful version of last stop this town. it's a shame E wrecks so much of his work for shtick.
I like the new material. It ain't electroshock blues but it was damn good. overall a great show.
Did MC Honkey do anything other than look busy while they played his album? Still fun to watch.
-
I never even made it to the first encore let alone the one's after.
-
This was my second Eels show. Whether it was better or worse than the last one (on the Souljacker tour) is bit of a moot point, since both shows were great. I love the fact that they come back to play for the fans who stay after the house lights come on, even if the songs are nonsensical [e.g. "Jehovah's Witness" from the Rotten World Blues EP (last tour) and ZZ Top's "La Grange" (last night)]. I also like the fact that they do try to keep things fresh. For example, the live version of "I Like Birds" rocks! Also, last tour they did the cover of Missy Elliot's "Get Your Freak On"; this tour they started off with country flavor (even the "I'm a Loser" Beatles cover). The Eels are definitely one of my favorite American live bands--and not too shabby on CD either.
-
I thought it was a pretty good show. Bummed that Butch is no longer with the band, but I guess you can't expect the band to remain the same forever. Was odd they way that they did 3 encores plus the special encore, the bra being flung on stage was a bit odd, but heck fun time. Liked the DJ, wanted one of his shirts but all they had was small...

Butch is still with the band, he had agreed to tour with Tracy Chapman before the eels had scheduled their tour, I believe he is supposed to be back
-
Okay, their crew seemed to be like "the new drummer" ... nothing about returning. Cool if he does come back.
Oh, and last time he started the lights up encore by doing a drum only "Novacaine for the Soul" (or was that two times ago...).
I saw them when they were the original 3 and E's mom was in front of me for the guest list/tickets.

4/9/2003- LIFE'S A BUTCH:
It's your fault. You shouldn't have clapped so loud for him. EELS drummer Butch is in much demand by rockers and non-rockers of the world these days. He is currently busy with the latter category, playing drums on Tracy Chapman's current tour which could possibly render him unavailable for the immediate EELS Tour Of Duty. But not to fear! Should Butch still be riding in the "Fast Car," then his little cousin "Puddin'" will be sitting in for him, and he rocks like a proverbial hurricane. You'll be begging for more Puddin'!

Even though i left early from boredom i did enjoy listening to the drummer, i thought he did an outstanding job.

Oh yeah, there was plenty of elbow room and I have the bad taste in music, obviously there were plenty of people not there that musta agreed with me. I did enjoy there up tempo stuff but the three slow songs in a row killed me......had to go. Where were you at anyways, i was looking for you, I didnt hear much shouting out for songs. I did hear one guy yell "Yes i am" to one of his comments, thought it mighta been you.
