Who's going? I'm excited, cause I've only heard very good things about their live shows. I hope they play the fast (and superior) version of Major Label Debut.
I'll be wearing my newsboy cap and snapping a shitload of pictures. If you see me, feel free to say hi!
-
We moved, so I'll actually be catching the Seattle show on November 12th. I've heard good things, but I'm more curious about Feist, as I haven't heard any of her solo work. I like the stuff she's done with BSS and Kings of Convenience, so we'll see.
-
today is my christmas.
(i'll be there, in full-on groupie mode)
-
I am there. Just hope Leslie Feist doesn't see fit to lecture us on who Ron Sexsmith is again. Doesn't she realize some people grew up watching CBC?
-
Looks like I might have to unload my extra and go solo, but I'll be there.
-
I'll be there. I hope Stars drops by and they do "Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl" with Amy...
-
I won't be there, but I'll do a concert review if you'd like. :)

Lisa Lobsinger has been doing "Anthem..." on the tour. However, your wish may come true. I was at the Philly show last night and BSS were there. Andrew Whiteman played with them the entire set and Kevin Drew did background vocals for a few songs. So I am quite confident that Stars will return the favour tonite (they've got an offnight and are en route to Raleigh so it all works out).

It would have been funnier if you just went ahead and reviewed the show before it happened.

from some boston blogger:
Last night was magical. The Broken Social Scene collective exceeded my high, high expectations for them. Ringleader Kevin Drew was charming as always, even apologizing for their "short" 100 minute set. They wove old songs and new ones together such that there were no questions that the new album is as strong if not even more spectacular than what we are already familiar with. Leslie Feist played the part of spazzy/sexy female vocalist, accompanying the other female lead (don't remember her name) who is still getting comfortable with the material and, more importantly, being on stage. When the houselights came on briefly mid-song, they were amazed by the full crowd packing Avalon (sooo hate that place!) and their energy cranked up even higher, if that's imaginable. I love seeing BSS perform. And it's obvious from their shows that BSS loves performing as well.

Holy...Fucking...Shit...
That's it - I'm moving to Canada
That might've been the best show I've seen all year. If anyone found a jaw, please let me know - I think I dropped it when they played "KC Accidental".
-
Damn straight. Best fucking show all year, hands down. The New Pornographers have NOTHING on these guys!
I just about lost my shit when they played the fast version of Major Label Debut, only as sort of a reprise to when they opened their set with the slow version. Gotta love when Kevin Drew asked if there was a curfew, then upon discovering there was none, just about tossed the entire setlist out the window. Also, watching Kevin and Leslie Feist slowdance during Lover's Spit was absolutely fucking awesome.
I can't think of enough good things to say about tonight's performance. :D
-
best christmas ever.
everything about the 4 hours i spent inside that venue this evening was perfectly beautiful... right down to the miami shoutout from the girl on the balcony.
i fucking love that band.
-
i was expecting to hear "windsurfing nation"
despite it's absence, one of the best gigs i've ever, ever seen.
-
For what will probably be my last 9:30 club show for a long time I could not have asked for anything more. It was brilliant. You know a show is great when you forget there are others in the room.
-
The obligatory setlist have anyone? At the conclusion of the set it felt to me it was over so I bolted - did I miss an encore?
-
This show was the best show I have seen, ever. Fucking brill. I thought the Arcade Fire was the best show, but then I saw Clap Your Hands. Then that one was best. But now I saw this one, and it was bester. Fucking awesome. Does anyone have the setlist? Personally, I can't tell their songs apart from another, so I need the fucking setlist.

I was expecting you to wait until this thread had fallen off the front page sufficiently then say the reviews were generally negative like last time. What a tool.

SO glad they played that. Too bad they didn't do the horns for it, but it was still awesome.
Stars didn't show up as I had hoped. Oh well. Lisa Lobsinger sounded great on "Anthems".
And Feist was also really good. I like how she rocked out the Ron Sexsmith cover, "Secret Heart".
-
that show was amazing...goes down as one of my favorites of the year. songs off the new album sounded better live than they do on the album.

Just look at the tracklistings from the new album and YFIIP. Aside from some instrumental tracks, they pretty much played everything. Off the top of my head, only "Looks Just Like the Sun", and "Windsurfing Nation" were missing. I don't have Feel Good Lost, so I'm not sure what they played from that.
Oh, and btw, Roy Rogers is making a comeback! (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/09/AR2005100901075.html)

I'd heard that in Boston J. Mascis got on stage with them and did a duelling guitar solo during "Almost Crimes."

Seriously? I've heard nothing of this.
That's neat if true; Almost Crimes sounds like a Dino Jr. song.

They did mention something about Mascis last night. Can't remember exactly what they said.
And is it just me, or did that show not feel like it was sold out? There seemed to be more breathing room compared to other sold out shows.

I was at the Boston show and would have remembered that. Possibly the Northampton show?

Northampton would make more sense. Freakscene.net has no news of this whatsoever.

Has she only ever heard Almost Crimes? That's laughable.

It was pretty packed up front, that's for sure. After people started to trail out to catch the Metro, go home so mommy and daddy wouldn't get mad for being out late on a school night, etc., it definitely got less crowded.

That must be it...I didn't think they did two shows in MA.

Something just didn't sit right with me after that show. And after a few restless nights I realized what it is: I hate it when people play air guitar on stage. It was increadibly annoying when the girl from Feist kept doing it. You're in a fucking band. You have real guitarists. Put the Bill and Ted away and put on a show, damnit.
-
did feist play with a full band? i saw her opening for british sea power last year, and she played solo with only an electric guitar. it was my first time ever hearing her and i thought she sounded great, so i bought her album but wasn't as blown away by it as i was her live performance. i'm planning on seeing her open for bright eyes in november, so i'm just wondering what her usual setup is. solo or w/ backup band?

I thought it was really cool when she did it.
I was really attracted to her, too.
And just so you know, she IS Feist. She isn't "the girl from Feist." Her name is Leslie Feist, and the band that was playing with her was just her backing band.
