Yes, I was very impressed with the lineup...and the number of good acts that we'll be missing because they overlap with the ones we chose is impressive as well.

...and you guys think I'm picky with music. My brother made the comment that he was "thoroughly unimpressed with the Bumbershoot lineup", and thus wouldn't be attending.

I agree with your brother. But have fun anyways.

It should be for that alone.  Does anyone know if they're planning a club tour?  Seems like all they've been doing is the festival circuit.  If the Dolls can do it, why not the Stooges?

And did anyone pick up the reissues of the first two albums?  Any worthwhile bonus material?

Yeh man, I don't want to see the Stooges outside.  That just feels wrong for some reason.

Of those you list, only Dolorean, Decemberists, Earlimart, and Son Volt are playing Bumbershoot. Hitchcock is playing a Seattle show unrelated to Bumbershoot on Friday.

They're playing in a soccer stadium. That counts as inside, no?

Perhaps the Garbage/NY Dolls/The Donnas mainstage show on Friday would appeal to you.

The the headlining gig from the Phish guy on Saturday would appeal to Redsock.

Let me clarify that, I would want to see The Stooges in a club.

I was tempted...I'll be out that way, sadly I leave the day Iggy plays and that's really the only one I'm dying to see.

Well...seeing as how I live here now I imagine I'll probably be there...but not sure...Decibel festival is next month and there's a good handful of artists I'd like to see there as well.

Drop the NY Dolls and you've got something there.   ;)

I'll take what I can get for that price.

I saw Iggy in a small club perhaps 15 years ago, and he was great. Had Steve Jones on guitar.

He's got Mike Watt on bass these days.

NKOTB and I saw Iggy at 930 a few years ago and the show was excellent.  The man was like an 8 year old who just ate a bag of sugar.

Either way, Bumbershoot looks like a good time this year.

Don't have the time today to write up a long boring review, but here's my ratings of the shows on the Rhettdork (0-10) scale.

Note: Flogging Molly/ Ted Leo double bill was impossible to get into, so we had to replace it with Okkervill River and Keren Ann

Devotchka (in Vancouver) 9.0 Somebody please book this band for DC. Their show is simply sublime.

 Bumbershoot:
 (Sunday)
 Dolorean: 5.0
 Math and Physics Club: 3.0
 Common: 4.5
 Jesse Sykes: 6.0
Son Volt: 7.7 (made the dumb mistake of leaving this show for Elvis Costello)
 Elvis (solo): 4.5

 Monday:
 Decemberists: 8.0
 Be Good Tanyas: 6.2
Brazilian Girls: We fled in horror midway into their second song
 Okkervil River: 6.2
 Keren Ann: 8.0
 Iggy and the Stooges: 8.0

what was the setlist like?

new son volt? solo? old son volt? uncle tupelo? or all of the above

We were only there for the first 40 minutes of their 90 minute set.

I believe most of the songs we heard were off of the new album, with one off of their debut (Loose Strings). No Uncle Tupelo in the first 40 minutes. The band sounded really tight, and the sound was excellent (the venue normally plays host to the symphony and opera). And nonsmoking and seated to boot.

All in all, much better than when i last saw them in 96 or 97.
