For you New Porno fans....here's something fascinating yet incredibly disturbing (especially if you grew up in Canada during the late 70s/early 80s.

Seeing Neko all Stevie'd out is weird. The Burton Cummings look on the keyboardist is awesome. But my fave is the return of the double neck Gibson.

Unfortunately, that damn song is still running through my head. Running...like a bad case of diarrhea. Ick....

i've actually heard good buzz on this one...hmmmmmm.

really, though, next week's New Music Tuesday is what has got me pumped.  the new DCFC has already been leaked online and is streamable through many sites, and is really great.  i also can't wait for Ok Go   :)

I bought BRMC, NPs, and John Vanderslice.  I picked up I am Kloot several months ago while in the UK.

BRMC-Obviously a completely different sound.  I am really enjoying it right now but I don't know how it will sit after a few more listens.  I am excited to see them live, with them hopefully doing half acoustic/half plugged in.

NPs...exactly what you would expect. top notch pop.

John Vanderslice-Good, but not as good as I was hoping for.  Although, the song "Trance Manual" is my favorite song of any of the CDs I have bought in the past few months.

I am Kloot...solid, but not special.  I swear they are getting worse and worse, though.  Their debut was amazing (one of the few discs that I have consistantly listened to for the past five years). They have failed to live up to their promise.

Ive had both downloaded for awhile now....howl I like, its just a departure, but it grows on you

twin cinema is brilliant..I think Use It and Sing Me Spanish Techno are just two great, great songs

Wow, the New Pornos tickets are going to go fast. I also picked it up and am loving it right away. Song #1 has such a great riff. I didn't particularly like Electric Version, but Mass Romantic is in my Top 25 of all time. I loved that disc, and still do.

I also got BRMC but haven't cracked it yet. That's another one where I loved the debut but never really warmed to the second one.

Add me to the "Twin Cinema" lovetrain. Borders (at least the one in Silver Spring) has the new BRMC for $10.99. They had the Warlocks disc as well, but I didn't get it this time. I may have to go back and pick it up. Looking forward to that show with the BellRays.  <img src="http://www.dimpleandasmirk.com/_images/avatar.jpg" alt=" - " />

Also, iTunes added the new Franz Ferdinand track, "Do You Want To," to its store. I listened to the 30-second sample. Meh. It's OK, but it doesn't sound that different from anything on the s/t.

Based on what I saw this summer, that will leave a lot of people with tickets to a dull show by a band completely lacking in stage presence and sex appeal.

Well, that's sort of true. I saw them at the Black Cat about 2 years or so, and sure, they don't prance around like the Hives. However, they have great musical chops, their enthusiasm is infectious, and the songs crunch even better in a club. Did you see them at a festival? That doesn't count.

And personally, I think Neko Case is quite hot.

Neko Case is  pretty, but she's just not sexy (to me). Do you understand the difference?

Rock shows are, in part, about eye candy. For me, the artist should be visually appealling. They don't have to be sexy, but should at least be interesting to look at. New Pornographers are neither, to me. If the visual appeal isn't there, why not just stay home and listen to the album?...particularly if the band doesn't really engage in witty stage banter or change up the songs...which is the case with New Pornographers.

Nope, not at a festival. I was front row at their Celebrate Brooklyn show this summer.

And if they were a truly good live band, it wouldn't matter what venue it was that they were playing.

She didn't play that show.

I did see her play Iota maybe seven or eight years ago. During the opener, she stood right next to me, at the bar. At no time that night did I find her the least bit sexy. Great singing voice (though she overdoes it at times), but not sexy.

Am I the only one who thinks the New Pornographers sound like crap?

Their songs on Twin Cinema seem to especially highlight their poor singing voices and the music lacks any complexity. They sound like a highschool garage band that needs more practice.
It sounds like they are trying VERY hard not to sound "overproduced."

I don't get it. Neko Case's BlackListed is a quality record, if not a little boring at times, and AC Newman's latest solo record is quite interesting.

 I think I just don't like NP's schtick.

Well he has lost some sex appeal since growing that beard. The beard was one of the reasons that we opted out of the Jammin Java show.

Best (and nearly perfect) when taken two or three songs at a time, as an entire album, Twin Cinema overstays its welcome.

There were at least a couple of other boardies who posted that their NYC show was boring. Not to mention the scads of people who were leaving the show pre-encore.

Well if all the critics love it, and all the people who rushed out and bought it on it's release day say it's good, that pretty much proves that nobody will ever dislike it. Well put.

i like "twin cinema," but i think that it's not nearly as good as "electric version," which itself wasn't nearly as good as "mass romantic." i undoubtedly like "the slow wonder" better than "twin cinema," that was a fucking great record. and of course the best record ever associated with a new pornographer is destroyer's "streethawk: a seduction." honestly, neko case gets on my nerves on this record. i gotta agree w/rhett a little bit, she just projects too much sometimes. chill out, babe.

the review on allmusic was pretty good i thought. they gave it 4.5 stars, but it seemed a pretty unenthusiastic 4.5 stars. but then again, they give everything 4.5 stars. "which is what makes Twin Cinema an endearing listen, if not a flat-out knockout." that's about how i feel.

Rodney Crowell's new album got universal acclaim on metacritic as well. Why aren't boardies raving about his album?

And Sufjan Stevens new album gets universal acclaim, and what I've heard of it would make me turn it off and turn on a New Pornos album right quick.

You call it contrary, I call it provocative (and interesting).

I for one, can't recall a single thing you said about yourself or your musical tastes in your previous 1180 posts that allows me to distinguish you from the horde of other indistiguishable posters on this board. (though there are a good number who are distinguishable).

I can't say that I am consistent in my contrariness. I post so often that it just appears that way. Celeste posts so seldom that it's hard to draw any conclusions.
I will say that it is more interesting to write a post that goes against the majority opinion than it is to be the eight person in an hour to say how much fun the New Pornographers are.

The songs I've heard from the pornographers never really did much for me.  However, last night I heard a song off of their most recent that started getting good about two minutes into it.  It may have been the first track.  I don't know.

Ditto. I really don't like them, or any of the members side projects.

Ditto for me too, as in liking some new song by a band I've never much liked. In fact, was surprised to find out that the song that I was hearing, whatever it was, was by them.

i'd say its more interesting to post truthfully than to write a contrary opinion just to be provocative. three people in a row could post that they don't like the new pornographers, afterall

I will say that it is more interesting to write a post that goes against the majority opinion than it is to be the eight person in an hour to say how much fun the New Pornographers are.

I agree, and as my name indicates, I am picky about my pornography.

i was just answering here question.  your defensive reply here just proves that most likely Celeste stated she didnt like them just to spar an argument.

cause in reality, she knows shes not the only one who doesnt like the new pornos.

I for one, can't recall a single thing you said about yourself or your musical tastes in your previous 1180 posts that allows me to distinguish you from the horde of other indistiguishable posters on this board. (though there are a good number who are distinguishable).

first of all, what is interesting about her saying she doesnt like a band??  its just as interesting or boring as me saying i like a band.  interesting would have been to perhaps bring up a good point about why they suck (other than being Canadian).

and you, are no more "distinguishable" than any other poster on here really, just cause you like different crappy music...

AC must be talking about himself.

 'Your Blues', Destroyer
He's right next to me as I write this. Good looking man.  There are uglier, less talented men in indie rock who are much more celebrated.  Is it the ugliness? Do you people love ugliness?

that's some funny shit, my favorite:

"Daughters" ~ 'Heavier Things', John Mayer
The guy from the Killers had the nerve to put this song down. You're in the Killers, pal. You're popular, that doesn't mean that you're THAT good. I was on the Killers' side until they started trashing Mayer. Mayer's a good guy. Might I recommend to Brandon Flowers....

 'Glass Houses', Billy Joel
Get it? Actually, I should buy this record too. "All for Leyna" is a great forgotten song. Billy Joel really nailed the new wave rip-off song, just seconds after new wave. Visionary. You know what that means, hipsters of the world? Doo-wop is next.

Wow. And  Pitchfork (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/w/west_kanye/late-registration.shtml) gave it a 9.5 today. But like his last album, I'm sure it's extremely overrated.

it has its moments, but i was disappointed to see jon brion's presence wasn't as strong as i thought it'd end up being. too bad, cause he's really one of my favorite producers and i thought it'd work out really well. his live shows basically consist of him sampling over himself and singing and playing, and apparently kanye stopped by to perform with him live too.

so yeah, i'd have to agree...very overrated at this point.

Pitchfork immediately starts every rap album off at like 9.2 apparently. White boys tryin' to get street cred...
