I have been getting e-mails from Cellar Door concerts about upcoming shows. I thought they were bought out by Clear Channel years back. Am I wrong. Is this a way for a big company to try to appear small? I am clueless here.

yup...
There was an article, posted here I think, about how Clear Channel was going back to using the regional promotion companies names again in part because of higher name recognition with baby boomers for the old names. Nostalgia sells better to those not keeping up with the times.

Although I know that Clear Channel has spun (or is 'mid-spinning') off a large chunk of its entertainment division (live venues, like the Warner Theatre). So it is possible that Cellar Door is not a Clear Channel company any longer...

Who told you this? This would surprise me. I can't imagine CC having any influence over XM. Apples and oranges, for now at least.

Clear Channel is one of XM's main investors and a "Strategic Partner" (http://www.xmradio.com/corporate_info/strategic_partners_category.jsp?category=investment)

Oh barf, and I was really starting to dig XM. But Clear Channel/Cellar Door wasn't fooling anyone. I get just as much spam email from Cellar Door as I did from Clear Channel, and the emails even look the same in layout and design. If they are trying to big big and act small, they need to get real basic with the promotion methods. Go back to one color, quarter sheets passed out by college students.
