I've been watching a lot of the Champions League Matches (and I'm really bored with this Auxerre-Liverpool match) and it occured to me that some of you less sophisticated posters probably don't follow the Premiership and choose this inferior brand of football (be it Spanish, French or Italian). And since it has been a while since we've had a footie post, I thought I'd ask who your favorite footballer is?
It's no surprise that me being a Man U supporter that I am a big fan of
(http://www.beckham-magazine.com/united/319.jpg)

But it may surprise you that I have fond feelings for
(http://www.spurs.co.uk/images/players/player_masters/keane03.jpg)
as well.

Paul Scholes. And for entertainment value, you have to love Gazza and Colleymore. McBride makes the list now for how well he is repping US Soccer.
[This message has been edited by keithstg (edited 02-20-2003).]

He is shocking the Brits! I'm looking forward to seeing his match this weekend on FSW - it's about time. They haven't broadcast an Everton match since his first one.

I'm partial to that one-armed kicker in the arena league -- I forget his name. Did anyone see him lay the big shoulder tackle on the runback last week?
-
What the fuck is going on with British players? remember you lost 1-3 with Australia!
Now seriously, guys, the best player in the world is Carles Puyol, the FC Barcelona defender.

Come on, nobody thinks the Socceroos are better than England. After Veron nearly broke his toe, I wish more managers took the same appoach to friendlies. Maybe players like Roy Keane would continue to play for their national teams (Mick McCarthy aside).
I don't know about Puyols being the best, but I did see Barcelona play a full match for the first time this year against Inter, and I'll tell you, they looked damn good.
I was impressed.
I really do wonder why United didn't take a flyer on him, if only for their own amusement.
Priest Holmes or Marshall Faulk would be my choice.

Zidane!!!

I'd have to go with Robbie Keane.... this guy makes things happen... what was venebles (sp) thinking.

I've never once watched a soccer game where every single player ran for 45 minutes straight for two half's.

quote:
Originally posted by keithstg:
I doubt they could handle running 45 minutes straight for two halves.

ROY KEANE. My favourite of all time GEORGE BEST!

I love watching that guy play and one of the few times we were going to get Spurs on the tube, he gets hurt in the first 20 minutes then misses the next telecast too. Robbie's amazing though.
As for Venenbles - it's just the start of many mistakes Leeds has made this season. Keane has already made him regret it.
