Title: Led Zeppelin Rumor
Post by: 6949 on September 05, 2007, 12:30:00 am
So has anyone heard the rumor about a secret show within driving distance on 9/11?

haven't heard anything, but if anyone does: please share.  i can't justify getting on a plane for this, but i'd be most willing to drive just about anywhere.

where did you hear this rumor?  since it's 9/11, i'm assuming the show would be in NYC?

That would be amazing.

I predict a 30-minute rendition of 'Kashmir'; that's the only Zep song Plant can sorta still sing with his voice gone

If I say the location right away nobody will believe me. But I would trust my source.

Last night I was talking to a wounded soldier who kept in touch with one of the bands that visited Walter Reed. He said they invited him up on stage during their show on 9/11. He then said that Led Zep will play a surprise performance at this show and that he can be on stage with them too.

He's a good person and wouldn't have a reason to lie but it just sounds so strange.

 It's not NYC.

so are you saying the rumor has it going down in the DC area?  or on a local military base?

It's in PA at a regular concert venue. When I say where you guys are going to say there's no way in hell.

you know, if this is true . . . it's not even announced anywhere (but here), not even led's website.  you and your friend just leaked the secret show of the century.  good luck with that if it's true, and anyone gets pissed at you for blabbing.

A SECRET SHOW would be on their website because?

Remember the smashing pumpkins thread was a rumor at first? I posted it on here to see if anyone else heard anything and to tip off boardies who might be interested in going.  Do you think I care if people I don't know get pissed at me if it's false? The title says rumor though I standby everything that I wrote.

is it just me, or is it not the greatest move to have a band who's most iconic image is a flying machine that carried many people on fire and crashing towards the earth, to play on 9/11?

As much as I worship the Zeppelin catalog, I have rarely heard a good word about their live shows.  I doubt it's gotten any better after 30 years.

Oh, my GOD!  I just figured it out!  Led Zeppelin is playing with Sum 41 and Yellowcard at the Chameleon Club on September 11th!

I'm SO EXCITED!  I wonder how they're going to do tickets?  This blows Smashing Pumpkins at the 9:30 club out of the water!

 Brian

P.S.  Hey, take the rest of the week off and spend it in beautiful, sunny Lancaster.  Then, Saturday night, come back to catch "The Shack" at the Chameleon.

So you did research to try to figure out where a show would be that you don't even care about or do you already have sum 41/yc tickets?

Unfortunately this is neither Zeppelin, nor serious.

Even I can't get too excited about this, If the hallowed Smiths start talking shit about reuniting in 2015 I will take a pass on them as well.

Ten years is about the max I'm willing to wait (15 in a pinch) for a favorite to get their shit together and do something productive and by productive I mean new shit, not a greatest hits money train tour.

Notable exceptions Mission of Burma & Dino Jr., but can't imagine too many others getting a pass...Zeppelin, R.I.P.

I hate to break it to you dude, but neither Sum41 nor Yellowcard are relevant anymore.  Sum41 is way past their sell-by date.  Mall-Punk is about as au courant as eyebrow piercings.  And emo-core is totally passe.  Heard anything from Jimmy Eat World or Get-Up Kids lately?  I didn't think so.

Be careful -- you are in peril of becoming as obsolete as everything you so eagerly mock.

I think they would've been bigger if the lead singer was cute.

Not to sound like Brian here but the thought of old geezer Jimmy Paige singing The Lemon Song is absolutely horrifying.

Seems to me that very recently I heard someone drop mention of them possibly showing up at some 9/11 show but I picked up on so little of it I'm not even sure I heard things right. (A lot good that was!    )

I'm sure it would be horrifying if Page tried to sing The Lemon Song, or anything else for that matter. Robert Plant on the other hand might be able to pull it off, he is currently collaborating with Alison Krauss, kind of a weird combo but what the hell. Page has been doing something with some of the original Yardbirds which could be interesting...I'd like to see it anyway.

they were one of the biggest emo bands in the country circa "clarity" (didn't mean as much back then) and one of the biggest alt-rock bands in the country circa "the middle" ... fame from "bleed american" was rather fleeting, but i liked their last album a lot

Right. Major brain cell misalignment there.    The worst part is that I know better. Not a fan of the band so I'm not thinking of them much plus it being late at night, I was drifting off. Working too damn much!

I feel like I'm having my inner being toyed with with all this Led Zep playing anywhere within 800 miles of me thing.  Yes I was born over a year after Bonham's death, did Zep mean more to me musically than any other band ever?  Yes to that as well.

Throughout high school (the late 90's) my friends and I would sometimes debate which body part we'd gladly part with to be at a Led Zep reunion show.  Generally I only volunteered to cut off a few fingers.

Per NME Zep will do a reunion show around Nov in UK and Plant is quoted as saying it'll be "a one-off" so no other show

I'm not so into Led Zep, but am hooked on a silly mashup called ABC Breaker by DJ Moule that's the Jackson5 ABC vocal over the Heartbreaker riff. A lot more fun than the Dread Zeppelin Heartbreaker

I realize that it was a very adolescent line of thinking we were following at the time.  But under what circumstances is that so terribly inappropriate?  I've wracked my brain a bit and don't remember any member of Zep losing a finger or arm  I thought that was Tommy Iommi and Rick Allen.

It's hard for me to believe it too. Good tickets are available but again it's still a secret.

I don't know how many people kept in touch with the band (that's playing w/ LZ) or how many others he told. It only came up in conversation when I asked him about another concert.

You also have to figure that a lot of the patients can't be that far away from the hospital for so long, many don't have their cars here,  and to be honest some can't handle being in big crowds with loud noise, strobe lights and pyro so soon.

That was a roundabout way of me saying I know nothing else.

One night we were talking to the guys and asked if they want us to bring in boardgames. One guy said twister because he can just take his legs off and put them on the right color dots.    :)

It's perfect timing. They're following up their surprise show with a press conference.

Yes I am going tonight. Do I expect to be writing "I told you so" tomorrow morning? No. But one can hope.

this thread sucks, and so does anyone who goes to a Bon Jovi concert and expects to see Led Zeppelin.

it'd be like going to a Guns N Roses concert and expecting to see..... Guns N Roses!!!!

Bon Jovi would be a little less painful than the band I'm seeing tonight.

That would be great. I could ask them for advice on my fantasy football team.

Your fantasy footballs teams are fine.  It's the first week!  You're bitching around like a bunch of men.

It's really fabulous, 6949...all those fried foods...maybe they'll play "Don't Ask Me No Questions."  It's really great.  I was there on Friday.  Met Willie Nelson.

1. You're just being sexist. Women know more about bitching than a "bunch of men" ever will.

 2. Give me your cell and I'll call you when they play "don't ask me no questions."  Sorry if you hear some noise in the background, that's just me chewing on all those deep fried foods.

I'm a bit of Luddite.  I don't have a cell phone.  But I always see you and Miss Pretentious as the erudite chroniclers of 21-century, post-modern American life.

Therefore, if you have a cell phone camera you HAVE to take some pictures of the ambiance.  Think of it as a art school project.  Be on your guard, the proles don't take well to patronization.

There's a carny wearing a stained Toby Keith shirt with your name on it.

 And your tour dates.

nope, otherwise it would have been all over the news.  too bad.  my heart goes out to those who sat through a skynyrd show in hopes of something good :-/

On the ride up I heard Led Zep on the radio. I get to the show and someone is wearing a Led Zep t-shirt. Hmmmm. Part of me thought maybe it could happen.

Once in the grandstand I looked around and wondered how many others were there because they heard the rumor. I thought surely all these people wouldn't pay just to see LynSkyn.  Then I took a closer looked at them and realized that was exactly who they were there to see.

The York experience was incredible. I was supposed to pay for admission to the fair (not included in the tix) but the old grizzly guy at the gate thought I was cute so he let me in. I didn't have to show ID to pick up my tickets, they just trust people. They're country y'all.

When Brian mentioned fried foods (above) I thought there's no way in hell I'm eating that.  But I couldn't pass up a dinner of pumpkin funnel cake. Water was only $1.

I never considered myself to be a snob until last night when I concluded that I had the most expensive outfit on in the grandstand.

The show was ok. The best part was that there was no opening band. It was incredible. I can't remember the last time that I went to see a band and didn't have to listen to at least one opener.

sorry to hear it didn't pan out... tell me, at a Skynyrd show, do people yell out "FREEBIIIIRD!"?

in other zep news, at their upcoming (and confirmed) O2 Arena show they will be supported by The Who's Pete Townshend, ex-Rolling Stone Bill Wyman, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini.  good luck getting tickets tho.

Was you friend invited onstage?  Did they do any sort of 911 tribute?

Being born and raised in York county, you have to realize that Lynyrd Skynyrd IS their Led Zeppelin.  And Willie Nelson is their Elvis.

>>sorry to hear it didn't pan out... tell me, at a Skynyrd show, do people yell out "FREEBIIIIRD!"?

No. They chant "free"(pause to puff on a cig) "bird". repeat.

 >>Was you friend invited onstage? Did they do any sort of 911 tribute?

They didn't bring him out but he got to watch from the side where I guess the family and roadies stand.  They said a few words to honor 9/11 victims and the troops.

I saw as many confederate flags as I did American flags.  One man in the front row had a Dr. Seuss  hat that had the confederate flag on it. It matched his t-shirt.

 >>Brian

 I just pictured Willie Nelson performing "a little less conversation". {shudders}

Nah, Elvis is still their Elvis. The other guys aren't even on the same level.

Led Zep reunion? But Page is completely brain dead. My advice: stay home.
