That's wack. Seriously. Wait two weeks and they'll up it to 123342q4890 gigs.
-
Though I'm excited they've got the touchscreen for the iPod now.
-
They're almost there. I won't buy one at 16 GB, but when it gets bigger, it's time for a new iPod. It's all about the wifi.
-
flash or hard drive
-
but they dropped the price for the iphone to $399!!!!
i cant find out when that takes place though, as i was going to buy this very day...good thing i read the news!

I can't find official news, but I'm guessing flash because the size is so small. There is also a new 160 GB iPod Video (same form factor as 5th Gen).
-
I'm excited about the 160gb iPod - finally a player big enough to hold a decent sized music collection. $349 isn't bad...even though I loathe giving money to the insufferable Steve Jobs.

Immediately. If you hadn't read the news, you would have had a bigger surprise at the store.

ALWAYS go to the source, Towson Apple Store is near you right?

The Ipod Touch is flash memory and 16GB isn't close to being enough for me to think about it. My 60 GB got IJacked a few weeks back so I'm pretty set on gettin the 160. Finally I can put it all on there.....60 GB was way short for me.

again, i know, i just wanted to change my plan and buy the phone all at once, 2 blocks from work.
apparently tomorrow Cingular stores will have the phone at the discounted price.
-
I think the clarendon apple store will have some of the new models in today. I plan on plunking down my $350 ($150 actually...a client just gave me a $200 amex gift card) on one of the 160gb models. That oughta hold me for a while!

Don't forget that with Apple's iPod recycling program, you get 10% off if you bring in your old iPod. Only at Apple retail stores.
-
ok, so i went to the Apple Store and got my wife the iphone
HOLY CRAP!!!!!
that thing is so awesome. its just so great. its like your ipod, your phone, your laptop.
even the speaker to play your ipod out loud is decent. the way the phone flips from vertical to horizontal is also neat.
i dunno. i suppose if you are a big techy nerd its nothing that new, but to me its definitely the coolest little gadget i've played with
and will be buying myself one soon. :) (as soon as they get bigger than 8 GB)

That sounds great, except that my old one got stolen. Hence, the splurge.
Even so, if had one to off load, it would go straight to craig's list. I've sold so much stuff on there it's ridiculous.

I'm going for 30, cause thats the ipod i have and its plenty, even though i havent put more than 10 on it yet!
i have 380GB at home, so its nice to have such a select group of songs on the ipod, opposed to the ocean i have to swim through at home
though, 8gb is a touch small.

Early iphone purchasers can get $100 apple store gift card

8 gb might seem small, but I don't find myself using the ipod function all that much anyway and I'd be curious to hear who has.
The phone, email, and limited internet functionality is the blessing, the ipod just a cool add on. I have videos (full length concerts, downloaded or burned from DVD) and no music to use on flights.
So 8 gb is more than enough for me, and it's plenty for limited data storage, this thing replicates my most used and useful laptop functions, so it's a godsend on the go.
When I want to use an ipod, I use an ipod.

Hopefully they'll figure out they need to take care of the people who registered the phone/bought a ATT plan/use the phone and not the original scum bag purchasers who bought up several, just to phuck those who could not get to the store, as those assholes have already made a tidy profit.

How great would it be if they required registration of the phone and a receipt?
That would eliminate both the "tech scalpers" and the morons that bought their iPhones from the "tech scalpers" from the rebate.

THE NEW IPODS (the 80 and 160 gig ones) will be available at the downtown bethesda store "in the next couple of days" (said yesterday, so i'm assuming tomorrow or saturday.)
my 30 gig ran out of room and broke three weeks ago, and i JUST BOUGHT a new 80 gig one for $349 a week ago. now i'm happy, because i can go return it since i didn't open it yet, and get a new 80 gig one for only $249!! it's the first time in my life that apple will actually find themselves refunding MY money!!!!! oh and it's a good feeling. and an aluminum or steel or whatever ipod. sweet.
-
Heh... I'm laughing at the people who waited in line and paid $600 for an Iphone and are now up in arms about the price cut. Anyone who's a tool enough to do that deserved it.
-
Clarendon store had a bunch of 80 GB ones today but no 160's. I'll pick one up this weekend.

Actually, I didn't wait in line but ended up paying more than $600 for the convenience. Not up in arms at all, thems the ways of the tech world if you want the latest you pay the price, if you want to stay in the stoneage and throw said stones that those that aren't I suppose they go hang out at your house.
I have to say the ability to do what I do most on the run, without lugging a laptop is worth every dime over the asking price I paid.
I glanced at my credit card bill before paying it off this month and I average well over 3 figures a weekend on bar tabs, that's what you should be laughing at, if I stayed home without shows and drinking I could probably buy a new iphone a month and give it to people like you or I guess I could just go on enjoying my life, yeh I think I'll do that.
-
yeah, its not stupid to have bought it for $600 but it is silly to complain when the price drops, cause we all know the price will drop. hell, in a year or 2 iphones might be like $200! then i can complain for paying $399! jk

Hey, does somebody with an iPhone want to answer an inquiry for me? Well, it could be more than one inquiry, but I'll start here...
Does the iPhone allow you to get new/updated podcasts wirelessly or is synching with iTunes required?
If the answer to the first question is yes, is there a setting to do it only over wi-fi and not over at&t's network?
-
I think this should answer your questions, although somebody with one can answer from personal experience http://www.roughlydrafted.com/RD/RDM.Tech.Q3.07/7A96674D-44DE-492B-97F0-24E239BCD22A.html (http://www.roughlydrafted.com/RD/RDM.Tech.Q3.07/7A96674D-44DE-492B-97F0-24E239BCD22A.html)

Answer number 1 is no, currently you have to physically attach and synch with itunes to update podcasts or anything else for that matter on the iPhone, not allowing atleast bluetooth connection for synching is a flaw that will hopefully be remedied if not full wifi file sharing/synching/etc.
Now, with the mobile iTunes store that is likely to change, and since the new iPod doesn't have AT&T ability the new software should allow iPhones to using wifi the same way.

Thanks Pollard and bnyced0. I don't think bluetooth would help what I'm trying to do. I listen to daily podcasts, and I was hoping that the iPhone would auto sync those podcasts over a wifi connection. Part of the problem is that I commute while parts 2 and 3 of a podcast are being uploaded and it would be nice that when I finish part 1, I could immediately go into part 2, rather than waste commute time. But wifi would be key, because it wouldn't synch fast enough over at&t's network.
Anyhow, the simple point is I would like my podcasts to update wirelessly on my iPod/iTouch when I travel/commute without a laptop.

If the podcast is available on some web site (most are), you can just click on the link in MobileSafari and listen to it while you're on the go without sync'ing with iTunes on your computer.
P.S. Rumor has it that 16GB iPhones will be released before the end of the year.

I see your point, but that would require a constant internet connection, not always easy to do while commuting. Instead, I would like the 40MB file added to my iTunes library so I wouldn't have to be constantly connected.
-
alternately, you could just wait a few extra weeks for your desired ipod to be copied by the chinese (http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/14/the-first-ipod-nano-clone-rears-its-fat-head/)...

No 3G for the U.K. iPhone
September 18, 2007 1:17 PM PDT
Posted by Tom Krazit
Apple announced its first iPhone deal outside of the U.S. this morning, and might have made its second big mistake in the early days of its iPhone strategy.
The company announced an iPhone partnership Tuesday morning in London with U.K. carrier O2. CEO Steve Jobs made an appearance at the Regent Street Apple store to answer questions from the British press, who were curious as to why Apple decided to introduce the same EDGE phone that's on sale in the U.S. to the U.K. market.
Engadget's live blog reported that Jobs is still concerned about battery life. "The 3G chipsets are real power hogs," Jobs said, adding that he doesn't think 3G chipsets will allow for sufficient battery life until next year. That was the same answer Apple gave earlier this year to questions about the first U.S. iPhone and its dependence on an EDGE cellular network outside of Wi-Fi hotspots.
The two markets are very different, however. The U.K., and really Europe as a whole, are much further along in their deployment of faster 3G cellular networking technology than the U.S. O2 CEO Matthew Key said Tuesday that only about 30 percent of its network will be EDGE-compatible when its iPhone launches, but the carrier has already deployed 3G in many places throughout the U.K. EDGE was meant as a stepping stone for some carriers who weren't ready to roll out full 3G services, but most U.K. carriers went ahead with 3G implementations to replace their older 2G GSM/GPRS networks. (Check out GSMWorld.com if you need help deciphering the alphabet soup that is the cellular industry.)
It's a little different back in the U.S., where 3G technologies compatible with the base GSM standard used by the iPhone are just getting under way, and EDGE was used to keep people interested during the interim. AT&T, the U.S. iPhone carrier, only offers 3G services in select cities around the country, while the U.K. carriers have a more seamless deployment of 3G technology.
Therefore, Apple's going to have to really captivate U.K. buyers with the design and interface of the iPhone. That's been the device's strong suit since the day Jobs first held it aloft at Macworld, but lots of U.S. iPhone customers had never experienced 3G networking speeds before, and therefore didn't know what they were missing. Most tech-savvy Brits interested in smart phones likely already have a 3G phone, and asking them to step back to EDGE might be a tall order.
Jobs' insistence on a high standard for battery life may pay off in the end, but it could be a tougher go for Apple in the U.K. at first. Apple and O2 are throwing in a subscription to The Cloud's U.K. network of hotspots, since O2 has limited EDGE coverage at launch.
But coming off Apple's miscalculation on the iPhone price cut backlash, you have to wonder if the company is likewise misreading the appeal of the iPhone in the U.K. Sure, it's pretty, but is it too slow? As always, people will vote with their wallets.
