Know this has been discussed before but need some recommendations, figured that a little less sonic overload was in order.
-
I just got the earlove earplugs and they're nice.
-
I got the ones sweetcell recommend on here a few weeks ago. Been loving them. $12 Etymotic Research ones.
-
Kosmo, I have some extras you can have...

interesting - looks like earlove is identical to etymotics. probably made in the same factory... completely unfounded guess.
-
are these the ones that were recommended in the last ear protection thread?

bizou311: yes. i bring mine to every show, love'em.
-
I like the Mack's silicone ones. I think they're maybe $1.50-2 for a 4-pack or $4-5 for a 12-pack. You can use them multiple times and then throw them away.
-
thanks. i just picked up a pair.

They came in very handy during !!! and raccoo-oo-oon.
-
i thought LCD was louder, and i was very thankful that i had my earplugs with me. same for iggy... would have been painful without'em (actually, for iggy, i might have put in foam earplugs if i had had any on me - worse fidelity, but greater dB reduction. the show was too much fun from up front, i didn't want to risk/couldn't be bothered to go to the merch desk and buy foamies).

azaghal, how was raccoo-oo-oon?
-
Noisy. :)
They were good but the set was very short. No longer than 40 minutes. Played a good mix of tracks from albums and what sounded like free-form improvisational stuff. I'd see them again.
One of the openers was a guy named Evan Miller who is also well worth checking out. Great drone-based acoustic guitar with some throat-singing thrown in here and there.

I just use EAR ones. Talked to Gus, he stopped with the fancy ones because he keeps losing them and then paying the $$ for new ones. Foam work well for me, and the price is right.

i bought similar ones, albeit way more expensive, for my ipod. these days if i forget my other earplugs for concerts, i just use those. im sure i look like a total moron, but it does the job :)

Ditto. Love them and bought them for my whole music posse. Kosmo, I really do have an extra pair for you if you're interested (I bought a dozen, and a few friends already had them.)

I have no idea why, but I cannot stand the foam ones. In a pinch, I'd rather wad up a cocktail napkin....

That's what I do too. Seems to work pretty well.

I tenth these...have been using them for a few years now. Got mine from earinc.com but I think cheaper direct from etymotic (didn't know that at the time).

I bought them directly from earlove as well. I think you save a couple of bucks ordering through them:

They come in a rainbow of colors. I got the blue, it complements the bloodshot in my eyes.

My only guess would be ear canal size, if yours are relatively small, then they could irritate you.
-
Well the foam doesn't really irritate me, I'm just too cheap to buy the foam ones and keep track of them/save them for another time. :p
-
I just used my first pair of Hearos "high fidelity" earplugs at the Mastodon show at Sonar last week. Did a very good job. Presume they're comparable to the Etymotic Research plugs. Anyone tried both brands and have a preference?
-
Can you buy the Etymotic plugs at any area brick and mortar stores? Actually, any of the non-foam ones would probably do. Thanks.
