Source: HFS Founder Jake Einstein Has Died (http://www.dcrtv.org/) - 9/13 -Not confirmed. But we have a reliable source who tells DCRTV that Jake Einstein, the man who founded legendary free-form progressive rocker WHFS, at 102.3 FM in Bethesda in the late 1960s, passed away yesterday. Einstein sold 102.3 in 1983 and moved WHFS later that year to his new 99.1 FM in Annapolis. That station, via a variety of different owners over the years, most recently CBS, ended its alternative rock run in 2005. Einstein also once owned Annapolis's WNAV, 1430 AM, which had featured a talk show hosted by corruption-plagued former Maryland Governor Marvin Mandel, a good friend of Jake. Einstein's sons, David and Damian, were both heard on WHFS over the years. And both have worked at current Annapolis adult alternative outlet WRNR, 103.1 FM. At one time, Einstein owned WRNR as well as WFQX, 99.3 FM, in the Winchester area. More soon.....

My sympathy to Damian, David and the rest of the Einstein clan. My life was made far richer by the musical offerings of WHFS under Jake's tutelage. Requiescat in pace.

I would have thunk this would have received more attention.

I doubt many people on this board are old enough to remember when the Einsteins owned HFS.

The Post did a profile on him a while ago. Maybe there will be something in tomorrow's paper.

I remember Weasel's party weekend set every Friday. Same set list each week marked the beginning of the weekend. Joe King Carrasco-Party Party Weekend, Dave Edmunds - Here Comes The Weekend and many others.
Thanks to Jake Einstein for all he did in providing great radio.

I kicked off a lot of Friday nights to that song.
