I agree that "Be Here Now" is awful (I mean, it killed Britpop!) but it will always be Oasis's third best album.  It's a better album and has better songs than anything they've released since.  Which is sad.

Vitalogy was uneven but its essentially a classic - and a defining album of the era. Better Man, Not For You, Cordoroy, Immortality.  Definitely misplaced on that list.

I've always been confused by the term "Britpop."  For example, I feel like I witnessed an excellent Britpop show by Keane on Tuesday . . . but I guess it refers specifically to an era (like saying 'punk' existed only between 76-78 or something).

That list is pretty lame.  Must have been an arduous  task to determine which of the many Phil Collins albums that should not have been recorded REALLY should not have been recorded.  Same applies to  Hammer...or Garth Brooks...etc.

Agreed. Probably my favorite album by them.

I thought Oasis' Don't Believe the Truth was strong. I actually think Definitely Maybe, while a classic of the time, has not aged well. Every song has basically the same tempo and the whole thing just sounds plodding (mostly because of their god-awful first drummer -- he makes Meg White look like Bonham).

All Be Here Now needs is two minutes trimmed off of every song and its actually a pretty solid album. As it stands now, its a good album, imo, but it just falls short of the first two.

I liked that Kinks cover ("The Importance of Being Idle") and that was about it.

I disagree about "Definitely Maybe" and Tony McCarroll.  I don't think technical compentency has anything to do with musical excellence.  I think Meg White's a fantastic drummer.   I think Tony McCarroll was a fantastic drummer.  You don't have to be Neil Peart or whatever.  I am a firm believer in Stephen Malkmus's theory of rock drummers.  There HAVE to be people on this message board who know what I'm talking about.  He's absolutely right.  Actually, I have a similar theory about NFL quarterbacks but I digress.

Actually, if I had to define myself I'd say I'm only a huge fan of Tony McCarroll-Oasis.  He played on "Definitely Maybe," "Whatever," and "Some Might Say."  That was a perfect debut and six flawless singles.  No one can top that coming out of the gate.

Then they got Alan White, the brushes came out and they released "Roll With It" and "Wonderwall."

I met Tony McCaroll in Ireland...he was staying down the road at his mum's house. Pretty wild given that I was in the middle of nowhere in County Kildare.
