Anyone else going? I'll be there with my wife. I'm expecting it to be fairly lame, but at least it should be fun.
-
Fairly lame is the new fun.
-
I'm in.
-
The show has been gettiing a lot of meda attention so I expect a good turn out. I can't make it though so have a good time.
-
I got tickets for myself and the girlfriend, who oddly enough, has decided since then that they annoy her. Where I see kitschy fun she seems to see... well... something that annoys her. She does love El Jefe's poster for it though.
Five shows in the next five days for me. Should be a blast, if tiring: Dave Attell/Pipettes/Bloc Party/Deftones/Two Gallants. Bring on the weekend!

I'm double dippin, between BRMC and The Pipettes making the mad dash from T ST. to V ST. feels like a festival:)
-
Smoosh is supposed to be interesting, in a female Hanson sorta thing.
-
Let's face it...these chicks aren't doing anything remotely unique. That's the lame side, as I'm sure the presentation will be fairly forced. Still, that album definitely puts a smile on my face, and it's poppy and bubbly enough to enjoy. Thus, the fun.

True enough about lack of originality, but you'd be hard pressed to find another group in the last 20 years that does it (not simply girly sounds, but contagious echos of the best 60s/70s girly sounds)this well, are cute as hell, and bring a rock show vibe simultaneously. Not sure what you mean by forced presentation, but I defy anyone to be able to stand still while they're on stage. And you're going to see a whole lot of girl crushes erupting all around you.

The songs are sometimes a bit too retro for me (I like aspects of those Flatiron/girl group sounds, but get weary of the songs...). But, the show is definitely fun. They do it up with the outfits and coordinated dance moves. I think my show buddies are hitting BRMC, so I'm not sure I'll make it, but am keeping the option on the table.
-
I just mean that it's obviously crafted: the look, the moves, the sound, the dress, etc. I definitely get the impression that, like you said, they saw an open niche in a lot of the retro-sounds out there nowadays and choose to fill it. To me, it seems more marketing than art.
That being said, I expect the show to be a blast, non-originality aside. Sometimes you just need to turn your brain off and have a good time.

I'm debating whether or not to go.

Smoosh are great, I'd go just for them if I didn't live so far away. This is one of those shows I'd go to if I lived down there, but that just isn't worth the drive from up here. I saw Smoosh open for Death Cab in Seattle, and they've had my full support ever since. Ben Gibbard called them "the most endearing thing he'd ever seen".

Ben Gibbard. He's so precious.

More endearing than The Shaggs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shaggs) ?

I'll be there, along with half of the World Wildlife Fund, hoping that no one notices me singing along to every word of every song.
-
The girlfriend and I will be making the trek from Baltimore for the show.
-
im there.
-
so, will the set times be something like:
9:00 doors
9:30 Monster Bobby
10:30 Smoosh
11:30 Pipettes
?
i think that's how things work at the BC, but i'm not a regular... any insights appreciated.

Shit I hope not, I'm counting on the Pipettes being over by midnight so I can catch most of the BRMC set.
-
That sounds about right on weekends at the BC.

Great show! Pipettes were a lot of fun!!
-
I liked them a lot.

Date night with my wife was so fun I decided to skip it, so I sold my tickets at the door and went out for drinks instead. Sounds like it was (unsurprisingly) shot...under an hour the Post said. Besides, this paved the way for a Fiery Furnaces ticket and the possibility of heading to Califone next weekend.
So it was a good time?

i dig their polka dot frocks so much. waaay too cute they are.

does anyone else think that the blonde girl looks like sharon stone??
