Alright folks - I'm in DC next week, arriving Sunday and leaving Thursday.
What night are the majority of you going to see Kings of Leon - Sunday or Monday? We could do a back bar gathering or a pre-drink at Duffy's across the street. Actually, the predrink at Duffy's is a definite.
In addition, who's going to the Wednesday Rilo Kiley show?
-
If you do pre-drink at Duffy's on Sunday, you can partake of their pub quiz, as well. Starts at 7.
-
Sounds good, but does the bar do that during the NFL season? I was kind of going there to watch a little football...
-
I think they do it every sunday at 7, but I don't know about NFL season. Their website might say. But they always have games on without volume regardless of which sport season it is (or so it seems).
-
cool, you can help me move

Damn.
Anybody in DC want to record Fox Soccer Channel from 11am to 1pm for me and have me over for 90 minutes on Sunday?
-
what time do you get in at? I'll defo record for you but might not be able to wait to watch it w/ you

I'm taking a train from NYC - I will do my best to get to Union station by noon (earlier if I can work it out). Can you wait an hour?

It's probably for the best. I'm not sure if you're quite up for this just yet...

Ouch, but in case you haven't seen the schedule, I'm a bit limited in my options.
Are you proposing an alternative for Wednesday night?

i would. but i haven't paid any attention... since i scheduled my beach trip, the show schedule that week has been the furthest thing from my radar.

Brennser, because you've been so kind, I'm going to get to the train station at 7:30 (post wedding mind you) and be at Union Station at 10:10. Offer to watch United still stand?

In Baltimore and sold out. I don't think I could get to Baltimore in time (work function Wed. night), otherwise I would have joined Bearman for sure.

Good, because I was working out train times to Baltimore and deciding how bad it would be to wear a suit to QOTSA. I was pretty sure it would have been very bad.

it would have been bad...probably pretty bad actually. you would have been 'that guy in the suit'... and at qotsa even. you might fit in more as the suit guy at rilo kiley - as long as you had on the white belt.

You got a problem with Barney?
For the local show, I will have time to go to the hotel and change out of the suit and into the white belt.

It's not my first, but I do tend to start them myself simply to feed my rockstar sized ego.
Someday, I hope that someone else will start a rollcall thread announcing my arrival. Now that would be epic.

No it's pretty tight. I arrive red eye at 6:30am for a 12:30 wedding and reception in Jersey. Doesn't seem likely. Next time I'm in NYC though, for sure.

You, Sir, are on the guest list for all stops....
-
I'm in NYC/Boston during this tour stop but I can fit you in on during my October run through TX, CA, & MI if you can come out of hiding and out to Shoreline on Oct 6th I can provide all the Miller Chill you can handle in the VIP area.

Bummer - you had to wait and tell me now....
I actually have to forego the download festival this year to get 4 wisdom teeth removed on Oct. 5th. Not looking forward to it either as I've already rescheduled about 4 times....

Smackie I live 2 blocks away from the 9:30club and as of today I will have the U2 Popmart DVD...AND, I don't check the younglings' ids when they come to the door....

Sounds like Smackette will be looking for a place to hide out so she can sub for the A team, my lady friend won't be coming so she could keep me in line because now I'm planning to drink for two, leave no Chill behind. You might want to reconsider you'd be close enough to the stage for Robert Smith to sweat on you and you really could do with holding on to some wisdom.

on the upside, maybe you can hit up your dentist for some good pills, and float on in to the festival without a care in the world... or an inkling of who's on stage.

Thanks for the heads up on the QOTSA show. I was misinformed (and am a little shocked) but I still don't think I could swing it and ditch the suit at the same time.
As for the Kings of Leon/BRMC show - is anybody from the board going to this? I only had it on the list for the forum gathering potential, but if you throw a party and no one shows, well, it's not much of a party, now is it?

It's probably for the best, I'm going to be with a few college friends and even as we bear down on our 40s we'll still all be moaning about the spanking USC is going to put on us that night, not that we're not used to it...perhaps we can reprise our derisive chant that made us feel marginally better when a national power was beating our brains out in one sport or another with their fans shouting "Scoreboard, Scoreboard"...we'd retort..."That's alright, that's ok, you're going to work for us someday..." but alas that didn't turn out so well either....
:(
-
I will be at both KoL/BRMC shows (so long as my ex really did get me on the guest list like he said he did...my, wouldn't THAT be awkward!) however I will be trying my best to hide from KoL fans so I don't know how much "hanging out" I will be doing.
for the record, I'm really upset about this whole KoL + BRMC thing.
-
I always think it's funny when middle aged guys refer to their favorite sports teams as "We".

Well I don't think under 40 is "middle aged," nor was the "we" a reference to a team but rather my friends and I. As for the "us," that was the university as a whole and as long as they keep getting alumni contributions it's safe to think its "us" getting embarrassed on national tv.
-
it depends on how long you live. 4 years old could be middle aged.

Life expectancy for an American male in 2003 was 74.8 years. It seems that the "middle" part of that would be 25-50.
There was an interesting article in the Post the other day about redefining middle age...not to be a measure of how much of your life you've lived, but of how much of your life you've left to live (based on life expectancy).

so 26 year olds are middle aged?
-
are you trying to tell me I'm old?
-
I would say middle age is 45-55, senior 56+, moi, at 31, am a young adult...now, from 35 till 44, thats where things get tricky
-
My wife gets pissy when I refer to myself as "middle aged".
From Wiki (according to this, it's your third quarter of your life, so the first quarter must not count, if the third quarter is the "middle"):
Middle age is the period of life beyond young adulthood but before the onset of old age.
Various attempts have been made to define this age, which is around the third quarter of the average life span of human beings. According to Collins Dictionary, this is "... usually considered to occur approximately between the ages of 40 and 60", The OED gives a similar definition but with a later start point "... the period between youth and old age, about 45 to 60." The US Census lists middle age as including both the age categories 35 to 44 and 45 to 54. Erik Erikson sees it ending a little later and defines middle adulthood as between 40 and 65.
-
40 is the new 30.
-
I'll bet 99% of people in their upper 50's would have a bone to pick with you.

I'll just speak for myself, rather than either include or exclude anyone from a particular category, but if you're still carded regularly and are accused of having a fake ID once you show them you are "of age," which I'm constantly, then I don't think I'm anywhere near the middle regardless of what wikipedia or anyone else says. I'm under 40, and I'm planning (well trying to be proactive on the physical and mental health fronts) to live at least twice that...but as we know life can get snuffed out in a moment, so phuck it call me whatever you want..
-
Early to finish, I was late to start
I might be an adult, but I'm a minor at heart
Go to college, be a man, what's the fucking deal?
It's not how old I am, it's how old I feel
-
I get carded often, and I look much closer to middle age than 21. Some places card anyone who looks under 40.
-
I get carded all the time, it's crazy!
of course, I just turned 21, but still.
I feel middle aged.

I'll be pre-showing at Duffy's, watching some football. I'll likely have either a bright orange shirt that says ORPHAN on it or a shirt that says I HEART HOT MOMS on (If all goes well with Brennser and I haven't had time to get to my hotel, there is an outside chance that I may have a Man U kit on). Feel free to introduce yourself. The barkeep knows who vansmack is so you can ask him as well.

Duffy's Does have the Pub quiz during Football season and the Sunday Ticket. Quiz starts at 7pm.

Damn, I wish that I could make this show! The Vansmack show, that is. BRMC would just be a very nice addition in comparison. I have a gruelling week coming up and would love to switch one for the other but, alas, that luxury is not an option.
I'll tip one for you Smackie at the Walls of Soundfest.

Based on my experience last night, it's far more dangerous to be alone with the Director than with vansmack.

Nice teeth. Your dad must be a dentist.

I think I'm going to wear that shirt, too.

well the footy-watching portion of the smackie tour went off well yesterday, a 2-0 Manchester united win, good company, and Smackie and my son both resplendent in their Man U jerseys! Nice to finally meet you and put a face to a screen name Smackie!
-
last night was nice. i didnt get there until after 8:30, so i missed the vansmack pre-show and all but 5 min of the first opener.

HAHAHAHAHA. Peace & blessings, brethren. I trust you had a pleasant evening. It's safe to say I had a good time. ;)
Vansmack & ggwâ?¢ were a good time. Good folk right there.
And a special shout out to thatguy. He made a SUPER strong bid last night for boardie of the year/decade/century. He's a real good dude. I tip my hat to that man.
Well I technically don't wear hats, because I'm vain about my hair - but that's neither here nor there. I digress . . .

Glad to hear you're alright. We were a bit worried about you last night...
Good kickoff there.
Thanks to:
Brennser for opening his doors to a near perfect stranger to let me watch the match (and a victory no less!).
The fine folks at Duffy's - if you're not pre-showing at Duffy's, you're not pre-showing. The wings passed the test, the Iron City is a nice touch, but the tater tots put it over the top!
Seth for a fine establishment and a great time. You guys don't know what you've got until it's gone, trust me. I had forgotten just how much better the 9:30 is than any other venue. I'm taking home a t-shirt.
GGW and The Director - now that's a kickoff party. The Director is every bit the man he portrays here. And GGW, well he's much taller in real life.
Samantha and Cali - sorry we missed you. We'll catch you next time.
Anybody watching the game tonight somewhere in the city?

Still sad I missed this... but couldn't agree more on the tots. Seriously, I get excited knowing simply that I can get tots at Duffy's.

Good, because I was working out train times to Baltimore and deciding how bad it would be to wear a suit to QOTSA. I was pretty sure it would have been very bad. [/b]
I'll be at Queens, and wear a suit. Or a Tony The Tiger suit:

In a can too, gentlemen, as was the PBR and the High Life. It's going to be hard to find a better neighborhood bar than Duffy's.
And by the way, now that there's no smoking in Tryst, this might be my favorite coffee shop in the world.
-
I'll try to meet you guys in the club for Simple Kid if you tell me where to goes. otherwise I'm going to PROBABLY be up in front for the BRMC boys, and then probably upstairs bar when they're done. depending on whether or not I go alone and how beat up I get getting up front. at this point I may be alone again I don't know yet, which is fine cause I had a blast last night, but if I am, I'll be a lot more flexible.

Sorry, but we're not going tonight. I looked for you last night between BRMC and KOL, but I was unable to find you (at least from that picture you posted). Weird too, because there were only 1000 or so people there.
-
and they only all looked alike...
I ditched as soon as BRMC left the stage. I was afraid of being raped by a faux indie kid.
whyfor not going tonight? buncha bums.

I'll protect you.
and I'm officially going alone tonight, so company is welcome. in that case I guess I'll have an extra pass, too.

Check your PM . . .

I will defer to The Director on this one...

I don't have a Prime Minister, I am an absolute monarchy.

do you both want my pass? I only have one free one.

Humble as well I see . . . I'm flexible either way. I'm about to leave the office for the crib . . . keep me posted people. I'm out . . .
-
well I believe that I have a divine right to rule my own self. there's no room for a republic, empire, democracy, certainly not communism, or any other government I may think of to impose upon myself.

Nope. This has The Director written all over it.
-
alrightie then.
-
samantha, i'm going tonight. plan to leave directly from work so i should get there in time to see simple kid since i missed him yesterday.
i'm not trying to be on the floor though, i like breathing.
i'll be on the balcany near the stage. if all the good spots are gone, i'll be on the steps. i'm easy to spot, have a short fro and wear glasses.
-
eh I never have luck finding people. I am the sort of Person That Is Found, you all know what I look like so you can do the finding. I'll probably be @ upstairs bar most of the night, dunno.
-
I predict Director buys you a drank.
-
good, cause I'm broke as all fuck.

HEY Director, do you know what time I left you Monday night? man that was a crazy night. let's just say I ENDED UP NOT GOING HOME. you did a really bad job of babysitting me.
-
PS. I'm about 90% recovered from that night now, so that's good.
-
The Director is a dangerous man.
I mean that in the best possible way.
-
Oh no he was fine. it was once I left him that the DANGER happened. and also the Guinness kicked in. I just don't understand, Guinness doesn't make you drunk! it doesn't! can I still use it as an excuse?

I would say about 11 something-ish. The night got *ahem* right around there. I ran into that girl from high school around the time you left & the night just went a little crazy at that point . . .

Well, thank you. I enjoyed you as well. :D
But you're a nice girl, so I don't see that happening . . . I'll be in touch someday soon . . .

It was kind of like this at the end of BRMC....
Smack: Alright fellas, I'm going to go find me some pigtails
Director: No prob.
GGW: We're going to step outside.
15 mintues later, back in the VIP section.
Director: How's the hunting?
Smack: Not bad...young crowd. The one in the wife beater is still my favorite.
Director: Good times. My round...(off to the bar)
Smack: (to GGW) How you doing?
GGW: That dude is fuckin' dangerous! (gesturing towards Director)
Smack: No shit. I like him....
Director: Here you go fella's...
(back to KOL for a little while)
Smack: Alright, my round! (off to the bar)
Smack: (returns with 3 beers) Here you go. Where's GGW?
Director: Probably hit the head or something...(cheers on the beers)
5 minutes later...
Director: I think I'm going to drink his beer. He ain't coming back.
And cut.

Hmmmm, it's interesting reading these 2 different conversations. Makes you wonder where 2 of the leading characters ended up. Together? :D :p
Should this be redirected over to the Celebrity Crime & Scandal Blog thread?

They were so worried about each other, I'm wondering how they didn't just end up going home together myself.
