Ever heard Blondie do Bowie's "Heroes?"   Weird, but strangely compelling.

Oh, and as far as Minor Threat covers, "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White," originally by the Standells, is great.  Both cause it rocks and because it's funny to hear Ian passing himself off as a love-struck simple-hearted working stiff.

7 Seconds - 99 Red Balloons (don't remember the german broad's name)
 Replacements - Black Diamond (kiss)
The Cynics - Last Time Around (The Del Vettes)
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Stagger Lee (old folk song I think but I know the Dead did it too)

 A few of my faves....

I'm really lame about keeping track of cover songs...

The ones that always seem to spring to mind are

The Replacements - Black Diamond (KISS)
 R.E.M. - Superman
 Soft Cell - Tainted Love
The Flying Pickets - Only You
Primal Scream - Slip Inside This House (Roky Erikson)
 Detroit Cobras - various
D4 - Pirate Love (Johnny Thunders)
English Beat - Tears of a Clown

Get a bit embarrassed when finding out a song that I always thought was an orginial turns out to be a cover.  i.e.

The Smiths - Golden Lights (Twinkle)
Madness - It must be love (Labi Siffre)
 Madness -

And a few months before that, and a few months before that, and....

It fits into an odd category on this board.  Not quite updated enough to be in the first two pages, so it gets regurgitated everytime somebody reads an interesting article on cover songs.  Not sure there's a solution to it either.

this board's software has a search function, for some inexplicable reason the admins have opted to keep it turned off!

They know that if they switched the search function to the 'On' position there would be a concern that this could have an adverse reaction on ggw...he might very well require an ambulance.

don't know why the search function wasn't turned on in the first place, i am however hesitant to lobby to  turn it on now as the board is a bit creeky these days.  as it is the registration function breaks on occasion and turning the search function could result in a hazmat team coming into do a little clean up.

outside of the few regulars who might take advantage of the search feature, does anyone think that a DCFC fan is going to use it, when they can't be bothered to check if the topic already exists on the  front page.

the popular threads gets moved to page one on a regular basis, most discussion is ancient history once it goes beyond page 2 or 3.  and does it really matter if yet another thread gets created for discussing covers.

I run a UBB too and I've never had a problem with the search function.  Admittedly, I have way less traffic than this site does, but I really don't think it would be an issue unless a lot of people started using it simultaneously, which seems unlikely.  As long as the admins occasionally run the UBB's maintenance functions, it should be ok (and they should do that anyway).

What I like about a search is that there's a wealth of info contained on this board.  I imagine you could search for almost any band out there and find stuff on them, including stuff about past shows they played.

As long as you're tinkering you might wanna do something about the Halloween color scheme too.  :D    I think blue on black would be much nicer, consistent with the Club graphic at the top of the page...

And thus, less reptitive topics = less weight on the board?

I must be blind, I thought it was red and black.

I will admit there is a wealth of information here, if anything it will provide a good indication of whats been going on the club of late.  It could be a interesting project to go through the back pages and pull out the interesting bits and clean out some of the dregs.

However I think until new forum software is put in place and the current forum can be converted to html pages or something which can ge easily edited, discarded, etc, the search function should be avoided.

Going forward I would be interested in creating a better method of archiving info. i.e. Establish a calendar for shows where things like artists setlists, reviews and dj setlists can be easily found.

I think some great covers are the songs by Seu Jorge from The Life Aquatic - all David Bowie songs sung in Portuguese
