KCRW Host Chris Douridas Arrested
Jan. 17, 2006
By Paul Heine
Trendsetting KCRW Santa Monica host Chris Douridas was arrested more than a week ago on suspicion of drugging a 14-year-old girl and attempting to kidnap her, according to several published reports. Douridas, the musical tastemaker behind the soundtracks to a As Good As It Gets, American Beauty, Shrek 2, Grosse Pointe Blank and the Austin Powers series, was arrested shortly after midnight January 6 outside a Santa Monica nightclub after witnesses reported seeing him put something into the girl??s drink and carrying her outside the bar.
The girl became ill, was treated at a hospital and released. Douridas was released after posting $1 million in bail.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the L.A. district attorney is awaiting toxicology test results before deciding whether to press charges.
Since relinquishing his daily Morning Becomes Eclectic show on KCRW, Douridas?? musical tentacles have stretched far and wide. In addition to culling TV and movie soundtracks, he hosted a season of Sessions At West 54th Street for PBS. He also created the iTunes Originals performances series and is curator for the iTunes Essentials downloadable playlist series.
KCRW says he will continue as host of New Ground, a weekly 2-hour new music show for the non-commercial triple A outlet. ??We believe in Chris as a person, and we think he has strong character,? the L.A. Times quoted KCRW assistant GM Jennifer Ferro as saying. ??And we also think people are innocent until proven guilty.?

Holy shit.
I really expected that he was picked up on possession or something when I read the post title. That's a bit shocking.
-
he must be friends with johnny riggs.
-
Shocking for sure. How long has it been since he left Morning Becomes Eclectic?

What kind of clubs do you find 14 your old girls in? Was the guy buddies with Gary Glitter?

I was thinking Roman Polanski.
-
I was really hoping this would be about Nick Harcourt. I find him very annoying.

Mohammed deflowered a nine year old. And one-third of the globe sings his praises.
Maybe Chris Douridas should just move to Bahrain, like Michael Jackson did?
-
don't 14 yr olds go to the 930?
-
Perhaps I am naive, I dont think of 930 as a "nightclub". I do make sure to hit on girls with big X's on the backs of both hands though. They dig my geriatric ways.
-
It says "Nightclub 9:30" right there on the home page.

Re-reading the comments it seems that most boardies think it is OK to drug a girl and kidnap her, as long as she is of legal age.
-
Isn't that the only reason guys buy women drinks at nightclubs?

Have you ever bought a drink at a nightclub, let alone for a lady?
-
You have a point there. But I'm not most guys.

Wow, never figured this board would be the "law and order police are always right guilty until proven innocent" type place.
Anyone think he might be innocent? That there might be a mix up or some really good explanation?

What's your beef with Harcourt?

Nic Harcourt is the worst middlebrow mediocrity-pusher around. Have you seen his book Music Lust? It's like he went out of his way to create the blandest and most obvious lists imaginable.

I was actually hoping this WOULDN'T be about Harcourt, because I love him. But it still is alarming to hear, and very upsetting. All I can say is...I hope there was a mix-up.

And, I may have started going to shows around here when I was 12 years old, but if you think it's "bad" around here, LA is a million bajillion times worse. It is almost expected for a lot of the hipster/musician type guys to date teenagers (I'm sure at least half of them do), and most of the girls that are going backstage and hanging out with a lot of the guys in the more buzzy LA bands are seemingly always 15, 16, 17, 18. See: The Cobrasnake.
Alex from Phantom Planet (26, I believe?) dates an 18 year old girl named Diva, and is in a band with her and her 14 year old sister. They started dating well before she was legal, and didn't really come out publically with it until...well, after she was 18. Now, don't get me wrong; Diva is awesome and intelligent and witty and cute, and they are absolutely my favorite couple in the world; but most of the other guys that are hanging out with the younger girls are really just in it for the you-know-what. Most of the girls are just coming from very very wealthy families, and are very pretty and modeling.
So, was it creepy that Chris was into this 14-year old girl? Not by LA's standards. Was it wrong for her to drug her? Yeah, that's kind of when you run into trouble.

Yeah, but his men of the cloth certainly are!

Jimmy Page set the "musical" standard at 28 when he began a 2 year relationship with 14 year old groupie Lori Maddox.
