So the prospect of seeing Sonic Youth play Daydream Nation got me thinking: which classic albums would you love to hear played live? The only one that's coming to mind right now (and which actually happened) was Ween playing God Ween Satan straight through. Radical.
-
Radiohead - Bends, OK Computer, Kid A (any of those)
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie
Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me (I think this actually was the one that started the ATP "entire album" craze)
Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West
-
there's an awesome dvd called Trilogy from the Cure from Milan just a few years ago where they tear thru Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers in their full glory.
for classic prog-heads, there's a canadian band called The Musical Box, which plays entire gabriel-era genesis albums, replete with the staging, outlandish gabriel costumes, and even some of the original instruments.
roger waters recently toured doing the full Dark Side Of The Moon; he also did his '84 cd (not 'classic' in any sense) in entirety on its debut tour with film, quad sound and clapton on guitar. i believe the Floyd also did Dark Side whole in the '70's, as well as The Wall later or from Rog in Berlin.
in '87 when i saw Lou Reed (for NY) and in '92 Neil Young (harvest moon), i believe they did their entire *new* albums but not in order. and of course, the Who projects from the '90's where they re-approached Tommy and Quadrophenia.
ones i'ld like to hear:
moz-viva hate
stones-exile
pixies-doolittle
swervedriver-mezcal head
-
MBV - Loveless
Olivia Tremor Control - Dusk At Cubist Castle
When did God Ween Satan happen? Must've been a while ago. Is there a recording of that?
-
Leonard Cohen - Songs of Leonard Cohen
Trail of Dead - Madonna
Brian Eno - Here Come The Warm Jets
-
Judas Priest- Hellbent for Leather
Def Leppard-Pyromania
Rush-2112
-
Hüsker Dü - Zen Arcade (they probably used to do that but I never heard it)
Prefab Sprout - Jordan: The Comeback
Big Star - Sister Lovers (aka Third) (the setlist would become the definitive song order)
Wire - Pink Flag
Ministry - Twitch

It was done right around when the re-release anniversary edition of that album came out. Supposedly, it included a bunch of tunes that have never been played, which sounds pretty amazing.
I do'nt remember the date, and I've never seen a copy online anywhere. I would LOVE to hear that; shit, even as much as I hate Blackjack, I'd be psyched to hear that entire thing played.

OK Go - "Close to the Edge"
-
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
Inspiral Carpets - Revenge of the Goldfish
Stone Roses - Stone Roses
-
Clay Aiken-Measure of a Man

i think the whole idea is awesome and i would love to see many bands do their whole album.
but for me, especially would be:
Dinosaur Jr. - "Where you Been"
Counting Crows - "August and Everything After"
Cypress Hill - "Black Sunday"
Rage Against the Machine - self-titled
Chemical Brothers - "Dig Your Own Hole"

i was at a show where they played every track off ok computer, but not in chronological order.
primus was doing this a few years back.
-
They Might Be Giants did a show a few years ago where they listed the opening act as something like "Sapphire Bullets - The premiere TMBG cover band doing Apollo 18 live" which ended up being just them with silver shirts on. Then they went and did a full show after that.
Also - sort of related, Phish used to do Halloween "costume" shows where they would cover a favorite album of theirs in it's entirety - The Beatles White Album, The Who Quadrophenia, Talking Heads Remain in Light, Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, and Velvet Underground Loaded are the ones I know of. Yeah yeah, i know you hate Phish but it's still a pretty cool thing to do.
-
Their Remain In Light and White Album were both really good actually.
Supposedly Trey wanted to do loveless one of those years but he couldn't convince the rest of the band. He did do "Only Shallow" with a solo project in '97 or '98, though.

Rumor is that Public Enemy is the other band.

Did you mean to post this in the HFStival thread....?

Seconded.
Also:
Neutral Milk Hotel - "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"
The Clash - "London Calling"

I'll second the NMH.
They never played "Communist Daughter" live, did they? Pretty sure I've heard live versions of every song off that disc except that one.
-
Bob Mould, "Workbook"
Liz Phair, "Exile In Guyville"
The Replacements, "Let It Be" [okay, I'll admit it, ANYTHING from the Replacements would be the shit]
And ditto to "The Queen is Dead"
-
R.E.M. once played Murmur in it's entirety, followed by Green in it's entirety. I wish I had seen that.
The last time The Go-Go's were in town they played all of Beauty And The Beat (albeit out of order) before moving along to their later stuff.
-
Arthur Lee doing "Forever Changes".
Wait....I saw that!
-
I think hearing The Soft Bulletin in its entirety would be pretty cool, although I'm not sure I'm in favor of this trend in general.
-
My "will never happen" musical wet dream would be for Rites of Spring to get back together 20+ years later to play their album in it's entirety.

i also read somewhere one of the two other ATP acts is hip-hop. PE is the only thing that really makes sense...
'3 feet high and rising' would be nice too.
