I'm late on this and I know there's been other threads but who's on myspace? Here's me (http://www.myspace.com/mwisor).
-
I am.
-
I am but no use sending a link, it's private.
-
Well, it is YOUR space.

Yeah, I guess. I just don't want co-workers I dislike looking at my page!

My wife says people who are 30+ and are on myspace are creepy.
-
Whew! I've got one more year...
Seriously, though, if you have a kid, you most likely shouldn't have a MySpace page.

what?!? nightclub 930 (http://www.myspace.com/nightclub930) isn't one of your top-8 friends? FIRED.

your wife makes cool generalizations about things she knows nothing about! :)
seriously though, as i am not 30 either. myspace has been a semi-nifty way to keep track of old high school mates, friends from out of town and a cool way to see the ugly guys your ex-girlfriends have married!!
my fiancee finds myspace to be creepy too.
-
i LOVE generalizations about the people who use myspace. considering most of my friends and i are over 30 and use myspace, i dont think we're all that creepy. granted we're not out there trying to find dates (or maybe they are), but most of us use it to find new music or listen to stuff that we havent yet had a chance to go out and find.
im there too, obviously ;) me (http://www.myspace.com/xneverwherex)

She's clearly out of her mind! :D

lets say that age has nothing really to do with being creepy.
now, a guy i work with (who is under 30) is constantly on myspace, yet, has no profile...
that, i think, is creepy.

here's my almost creepy page!

i'm on and easy to find via the club page above. you need my email address to add me, but it's not that hard to guess my email.
i'm also over 30, and creepy.

Ew, okay, that is creepy!
I just use it to "collect" bands/artists. That way you hear new music, find out about shows, etc. [a little faster]. The creeps need to go and the kids need to take a class in privacy. I've seen all sorts of stuff posted on there (the few times I went to another "non-friend's" page).

ya, whats wrong with being creepy?
Marilyn Manson Fan Page (http://www.archdandy.com/celebritarian)

I think everyone over 30 is creepy anyway.

People who go around saying "my wife says blah blah blah," rather than speaking for themselves, are creepy.

i would post mine but i don't know anyone here well enough to even be their myspace friend
and my criteria is very low
someone please get to know me
hi, im matt.

so whats the creep factor on being over forty and honest about one age

oooh, the temptation to post a link to your page is something awful... must resist...
-
over 30, two kids and hopefully not too creepy - friend requests welcomed - I use it mainly for setlists and contacting obscure artists
clickety (http://myspace.com/brennser)
-
excellent i now get to DENY a friend request!
-
i find it more creepy that 12 year olds have myspaces, it makes a lot more sense for people who are older i think because its an easy way to keep in contact with people from high school/college/traveling/gigs and all that who you dont see everyday like kids who are able to see there friends in school. with that said apparently its all about facebook these days
-
Well, seeing as how I'm still a good 5 years away from when I have to get rid of my myspace page since it will have become creepy.... me (http://www.myspace.com/arthwys)
-
Well, I guess I crossed over to "creepy" age earlier this year. ;)
-
I find the myspace visual design troubling...the pages give me a headache. I think it's because I am old. If I was to have a myspace page, it would just serve as a gateway to a my own website...

i got mine when i was 13 in order to keep up with musician friends who were, yes, traveling and playing gigs. that's not creepy. that's the point.

i'm not a web designer or a coder or anything like that, but their design is just so unbelievably tacky and shitty, it really boggles my mind that they haven't undergone a serious style update in a long long time ... i'm guessing it's because when Murdoch bought the site he didn't want to make any noticeable changes that would make people start to freak out about corporate ownership and jump ship
facebook's design is so much cleaner, and that alone makes me use it a lot more than myspace
-
heh. I have a myspace, it's yesiamanartist if anyone wants to add me, feel free. I find it's the easiest way to keep track of people, because everyone's on it.
however it's banned at work, so at work I do the facebook thing, which I can't figure out. I don't know what it is about facebook, but there's like a mental block in my brain that I can't figure out how to do things on it.
-

One problem I find with facebook is the way it turns every phrase in lists into links, e.g. "Zappa's Yellow Shark" instead of simply "Yellow Shark". While it's nice that lists can be loosely formed, the automatic hyperlinking needs to be more intelligently programmed, i.e. more like Wikipedia.
-
Originally posted by Hoya Paranoia:

i am far too lazy to have both a myspace AND a facebook page!
-
i'm sure someone's written about this somewhere, but i'm really fascinated by myspace's ability to completely cut across cultural divides and appeal to an enormous range of people
everyone from middle school kids to college kids to working class rural people to music-obsessed folks to educated urbanites to minority communities to middle-aged spinsters find a way to tweak the site to serve their particular needs
it seems like similar social networking sites serve particular niches (to a greater and smaller degree, of course), while myspace somehow appeals to pretty much anyone using the internet
of course, in a few years (at most) everyone will have moved on to another site and Murdoch will be left with a $600 million paperweight

not since the last few weeks when they added movies and music and all that other crap to the profiles...it's getting a little meh
but yeah, it is somewhat user-friendlier than the space

you make that sound like its a bad thing.
-
The default MySpace design doesn't bother me that much.
What bothers me are the ones where people used profile editors and as a result, the profiles don't display properly on the screen and require horizontal scrolling. Not to mention the ones where people have all kinds of crazy background patterns that make the text difficult to read, etc. It's like Bad Website Design of 1999 all over again.

How does this thread drum up business for the club?
Rather it's seemingly a cheap attempt to get people to compare boring, narcissitic myspace pages. The only myspace page that matters is the club's.
-
You're right Surly. Shame on me for trying to get laid.
-
the best thing about myspace is that every band has a page and you can hear their music. this was impossible 2 yrs ago.
-
absolutely - most of my decisions about catching or skipping an opener are based on a few minutes with their myspace page.

You are off topic. Not music related. Not related to drumming up business for the club.
It would be similar if I poasted a pic of, say, this:

I disagree. As a moderator, if econo ain't happy, then none of us are happy. The more tang he pulls, the smoother the board operates and the happier we all are. That way, newbs will think we're one big family.

Though, getting together to sell lemonade in blackface might be a good teambuilding experience. Dupek might be onto something.

I can't believe I missed this. That's some classic shit . . . .

I know I'll upset some people with this opinion but I agree that being over about 21 and on MySpace is not just creepy but sort of....not pathetic...not really desperate...just kind of pointless.
I don't want to get off on a rant here but everyday I wake up and say to myself "I'm not doing anything today that I had to do in high school." And isn't MySpace just one big slam book? "You're my friend! You're NOT my friend! What's your favorite color? What kind of music do you like? Enter all this information and it will tell you what your theme song should be! What kind of dog you are! What kind of food you are! You CAN sit at our cafeteria table at lunch. You can NOT! I can sign your guest(slam) book and relate 8 million inside jokes!
Thanks for the add...."
It's mildly amusing to see how awful some people's taste in music is but that's about it.

i take it you had a really shitty teenage experience - because it seems to have left you with the impression that the only thing people do when they get together is point fingers and exclude. maybe this is your experience, but certainly not mine. i've had all sorts of old acquaintances track me down through myspace, people i never would have heard from otherwise - and am grateful for that fact.
BTW, not doing something for the simple fact that you did it in high school is a silly one-size-fits-all filter. we all did a lot of stupid things, and hopefully also a lot of good things (volunteering, sports, music, family time, partying, etc). were you forced to participate in "slam books"?
Originally posted by Brian_Walalce:

ah, so you go to myspace to point fingers, laugh and exclude... et tu, brute?
-
i think myspace can be used for many different purposes, some lame, some not so lame.
some people like the surveys and crap. some people like to listen to music on it. some people like to see thier friends from other states/countries.
myspace informed me two days ago that a close friend living in Japan just had a baby. congratulations and thanks for posting a picture of that beaufitul little boy on your myspace page. :)
-

What's a "slam book"? Similar to an autograph book? Must be a 90s thing?
The decorum of people's pages do make me think of what may have been the the inside of a person's high school locker.
Oh, and I've never caught up with anyone from the past via MySpace. (A few cousins, and current friends, sure.) So, I don't know what that says about me, or them. :D

No. Not at all. I was the gym teacher's kid!
It's just that it seems a bit fascist to me. If any of you are lucky enough to meet me (or, moreso, if I'm lucky enough to meet YOU) in person you can certainly be my friend.
No need to submit a "friend request."
Brian
-
Naw, it's not pointless. Since most of my friends are outside the DC area, I love hearing from them (and seeing their pictures!) via myspace. Do you dislike friendster, too? :)
