I thought the same thing.
Hello, you two peeping lurkers.
-
Rhett (aka Henry Dark) (http://robbiefulks.com/profiles/profiles.html?user=00358) can always be visited at http//robbiefulks.com (http://robbiefulks.com)
It's funny, there seem to be a lot of people on that board that also think he's a real jackass. Who'd guess?
-
Maybe we should all go visit him one day. :D
-
Just read some of his posts on that board....still the same arrogant 'I know more about music than you and I'll prove it in my comments' attitude.
For example;
"Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Decibully formed Fall 2001 as a reaction to the status quo of trend-driven music which primarily focused on production rather than songwriting. Expanding from a trio to a septet, Decibully now brandishes a variety of influences, creating a rich blend of finely interspersed layers tinged with country-esque flourishes, subtle electronic twinges, and rockist undertones, topping it all off with a mix of wry, lyrical quixotism. "
Still the loveable little knobhead he always was. I wonder if Celeste his still his little "yes girl"?
-
Did you guys all actually know him? Were you friends with him? I couldnt tell whether he was just some jerk who thought he knew everything or not.
I wouldve put up with his shit if i knew him too perhaps.
-
ooh look, another Rhett classic.
"Admit it, you're one of those chubby dorks who could never quite look good in hipster clothes, aren't you? One of those poor chaps who worships the beautiful women of the world, but could never score one for a partner?"
*sighs* I miss him.
-
You know what's SO funny -- I took a look, just for the hell of it, and the first post of his I read mentions The Pernice Bros. Man, the more things change, the more they stay the same!!!
-

Hell, the whole thread is great...read it for yourselves.

It's true -- this is such classic Rhett *and* Celeste:
"It didn't seem like a "friendly post" to me, the alt-country fan. Seems like for some reason, STB was snubbed by someone in the alt-country crowd, and has taken to insulting alt-country fans.
But then again, perhaps there IS some truth to what he is saying. At least my wife agrees with him. She said "Pretty women usually DO like the shittiest music. That's why so many hot women can be found in dance clubs."
I still think his comments sound like a dopey, cheesy guy who can't get laid, but that's just my opinion I guess."

put it this way... christmas card lists got shorter this year for some folks.

Okay, I had to leave that board. It feels kind of creepy and wrong (as funny as it was to see all the same old same old).
Now back to *us*, 9:30 Clubbers!
;)
-
Hi Rhett and Celeste.
I am sure they lurk too.
I agree it did feel really creepy lurking on the Fulks board when you know someone.
-
Check out this nugget from that thread mankie posted:
. My wife is the type of person who likes to say outrageous things, sometime sexual in nature, to shock her more conservative friends. She's not the type of person who is going to be upset by my publicly proclaiming the beauty of her armpit hair, or the awesome talent of her blowjob giving.
LMAO! The wanker does sure like to brag.
-
I hear Mrs. Rhett has the most beautiful armpit hair in all of the metropolitan DC area, not just the city proper.
-
back to my original question...was he kicked off the 9:30 board? his posts were always snide and arrogant, for no apparent reason...
-
he voluntarily left
-
Your Kung-Fu is good, (http://www.fanta.dk/showmovie.asp?mid=DB3D98F2-EB96-49D6-82FE-3B87BD0623B9) but mine is better .

where the hell was i when all this went down? i always seem to miss the good stuff!
-
ok..thanks kosmo....he was so annoying
-

Yeah, I missed it too. I was a lurker at that time... and never saw the thread. I heard it was deleted.
-
heh... you guys must be bored today ;)

You'll probably be very surprised to learn I was in no way involved with the thread that was responsible for Rhett and Celeste's demise!

Christmas is far too mainstream for Rhett anyway..he probably celebrates Festivus or Kwanzaa.

If it is Rhett.
Hello.
To the rest of you, can we all please play nicely in the the sandbox? Lets try not to be complete assholes, for once. I guess I include myself in that.

Now just hold on a minute there.....how are we being assholes/arseholes when he's not on the board anymore ;) ;) I for one knew he was lurking so just trying to get him to break down and post...which he did I might add.
I think, you'll find that Rhett is the asshole, even his new friends on the Fulks board think so!
Now, if we can just get the delightful Celeste to post, it would make me very happy.
-
heh... not to get back into this, but lurking after leaving a board in a huff is pretty classic chatboard troll behavior. They always want to see if people are still talking about them. :p

alright I have something to say here. she likes to shock people, yet the mere mention of anything sexual by me or towards me she immediately calls me a whore or a tart or some such else? she is one person of very, very few who really annoy the hell out of me.
celeste, do you have anything to say now?
-
I do you little girl.
She likes to say things that shock her friends. You like to say things to get the attention 30 and 40 something men pathetic enough to find children sexually alluring.
She's 31 and an adult. You're a 15 (16?)year old child. End of story.

Not that this will affect anyone's opinion, but from my impartial (if lonely) perch as an occasional lurker here, I've always thought Rhett was a bit of a jerk. I happened to have not seen the big blow-up that led to the departures, and to be honest I'd like to find out about it.

I can tell you this much:
What's clear is that in order to hear any details of it, you'ld have to consult Rhett directly. No one else will speak of it lightly. That fact alone should tell you the general nature of Rhetts perspective problems: His fondness for constant chin music. (http://www.infoplease.com/ipd/A0371458.html)

Yes,
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
speaking words of wisdom, let it be, let it be.
Mind you, I'd love to know what it was all about too.

if you're going to try and insult me by my age, at least get it right. if you have issues with teenagers saying the s word, I suggest you move to the middle east. I sincerely apologize for my age, rhett, because obviously it offends you. I wish to god I was just one number higher so that you would be less offended by my presence. I am so sorry that I am a teenager and it's all my fault. how dare I? it's so rude of me. the way I am as a genuinely nice person who says the occasional thing to get a laugh ot of people is so much more offensive than your genuine dislike of everyone different from you.
I just don't know what's wrong with me, I'm so awful and childish.

Ever get the feeling that Rhett is the Sandman? Say his name more than three times, then he turns up and something bad happens?
(Why dont you let this topic die)
-
We can try the "wilco sucks" chant.
or better yet, i bet if we discuss his closemindedness towards new styles of music and his incapability to recognize a good song when he hears it, he'll be back.
haha, just kidding though (not about the Wilco part)
anyone going to the Weakerthans show tonight?
good Canadian stuff.

you'll need more than a photo pass...like maybe a nice wool scarf and a box of tissues...emoboy.
-
I may attempt to go to the show alone. I have to get out of the house, I'm so fuckin depressed. I really gotta watch what I say in here now, I found out my ex reads the boards to see what I say. talk about a lame lurker

That's not very nice. I'm gonna go cry over it now.
Seriously though, good work on stereotyping someone you've never met based on one comment. With words like that, you're a shoo-in for employee of the month at whatever independent record store you work at.

Surry bout that. I get kinda defensive about my musical tastes sometimes; been stereotyped too many times. But hey look at it this way, I've gotten unnecessarily upset about something said in jest. That means I'm officially a newbie on this message board.

I was wondering about Maritime. Worth a listen?
P.S. Ninja emo is so 90s.
-
Well Maritime was definitely a very fun live show. I picked up their EP though, and it doesn't sound quite as good on disc.
Caution, though: of the two old bands that members of Maritime were in, it leans somewhat more toward Promise Ring than Dismemberment Plan. I happen to prefer TPR over D-Plan, but I'm probably in the minority with that.

I was there. I thought Maritime was really good. Very catchy, upbeat pop-stuff. The Weakerthans were good, but I'll admit I left early. I'm not familiar with their CDs and I was getting a little bored toward the end. That says more about me than about them though.
I'll definitely go see Maritime again.

But what we learned from the thread in question was the opposite, words can and do hurt. If you're on here to learn and talk about music, there's no need to feel personally attacked or go on the attack yourself.
PM folks if you want to ask what happened. It really is best discussion 'off line.'

Well, maybe he went to get a pocket protector
Maybe he went to get a cotton sheet

Maybe he went to go gay dwarf tossing
Well, maybe he went to catch the clue boat
And maybe he went to get celeste some new toys
Maybe he went to go ride mankie
Maybe he went to see the old 97s

I await...

I don't know any of the details but I can make up some good ones.
And I'm *still* glad he's gone.

Hi Rhett.
I have a great idea why dont you start posting like a normal person and tell us about CMJ and New York. Otherwise why dont you fuck off. This is just silly.

<monotone drone>There is no Rhett. There is only Zool! </monotone drone>

I vote for option B.

As I've said numerous times, I am not the Black Nerd.
For my take on CMJ, you may click here.

And somebody on the Fulks board actually likes me...
Ok, I have to say this. I've got to go with Hank on this one. Although I don't often contribute much, I'm glad for the presence of Henry Dark on this message board. I think he actually writes comments that sound like a real person. Although I'm sure that, individually, most of you are wonderful people (and all of you have hands-down the best taste in and the best knowledge of music I've come across), it's sometimes hard to read some of the sanctimonious, self-righteous stuff spewed around here (knowing some of you people can't possibly be like this all the time), without appreciating an honest person like Henry who helps maintain a balance. It may not be what you want to hear, and it may not be politically correct enough for some people's taste, but it's honestly what he thinks and instead of faulting him for it, I appreciate it. The same goes for Mouth (sorry Mouth, I know you differ w/ Henry on some stuff and probably won't like this comparison). She helps maintain a balance as well, albeit in a different way.

but anyway...
Funny little story...
When my wife started reading the 9:30 chatboard, she always wondered who this ggw person was. Why did he always attack her boyfriend on personal items? He must have some personal reasons to go after her boyfriend. She managed to convince herself for months and months that ggw was a spurned lover of rhett's, despite rhett's protests to the contrary.
Then one time rhett's wife met ggw, and the first thing out of her mouth to rhett was "well, i can definitely tell that he's a closet case, but no way in hell would you have ever slept with HIM."

What? I have to defend Rhett? Great. Thanks.
Actually what he did in New York was interesting. Its is well worth reading. It is a shame for this board to not get that material. I wonder what was wrong with the constantines?
It is a public forum. I think it is more interesting if people post about what they think about music and shit rather than just being a troll.

Celeste can be quite eloquent when she wants to be can't she?
Hi Rhett, I miss your attacks on me, GGW isn't nearly as good as you were. ;)

OK, Rhett, since you've come back for one more farewell tour, why don't you tell us in your best 50,000 words or less why you left?

Oh no -- my secret's out!!
I can see her point on the second item, as I definitely don't fall into the deaf Asian transexual or large African-American male categories that you are known to favor.

Right I am off now for me dinner, no more posting till tomorrow for me.
Lets not throw all the sand out of the pit tonight, hey?

In terms of the events that transpired, Kosmo is right. It's best to just let old news remain old news. For any of those who were personally involved in that thread and still feel the need to talk about it, I'd be happy to oblige you in person, face to face. For those who weren't personally involved in it, well there are many, many other more interesting things in the world for you to know about than that whole story. Go out and seek those more interesting things.
I don't really feel the need to post that much on this board. While there is a bit of overlap, I don't find many threads here which are about bands that I like, or music that I like. Once you break the habit of habitual posting, it's actually pretty easy not to post.

The Constantines...I think we figured out that we just don't like music where the singer shouts or screams. We like it when the singer actually sings. In that respect, we didn't like the Thermals either, though the girl in the band was definitely ok to look at.

Rhett never left the board, so the point is moot.
Habit still biting bad, huh Rhett?

I was a "lurker" during the whole thing. I "saw" it all go down. I'm not talkin' though, so don't ask. I just couldn't contain or maintain, or abstain from posting my observation about the ridiculousness of this group!

Then why lurk? Don't you have better things to do than lurk on a ridiculous board?
*coughs* loser *coughs*

sadly, no I don't, not always...and observing the "regulars" is entertainment of sorts

a guy from my high school class is in the thermals. aside from the generalization of a "bad band," what did they sound like?
sorry, i posted this before finishing the thread, but the question still stands. . .

I don't really know enough about their genre, if there is one, to make comparisons. Their sound (not including the singing) was not bad, though pretty repetitive, sort of hooky punk lite. I just don't like music where the lyrics are shouted rather (e.g. punk rawk) than sang. Sorry I'm not much help. They were way better than the Constantines, for what it's worth.
