Talking about UB40, I have this cd and I think it has some good songs. Haven't heard anything about them for a long time. I remember seeing them with The Pogues in 1989 or 1990 in Barcelona, good show and nice combination of bands.

I saw them at the Smith Center in 1985 with the Untouchables.  Fun show.  I feel old now.

Well Freddy, you're going to have to be a little more specific.

What exactly would you like to know?

There is a UB40 concert scheduled on April 15, 2006 at 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. go to WWW.ub40.co.uk/tourdates (http://WWW.ub40.co.uk/tourdates) and you will see it.
I was just wondering if you guys knew anything about that or when the tickets go on sale.
 I would appreciate any info.

 Thanks again eh!

Here's what you do:  Check the 930 website under "Just Announced" regularly.  I don't believe an April show will be "up" on the site until early Feb. at the soonest.

Also, regularly check the Tickets.com website (the ticketing agent for 930 shows).  Search on "930" then select "All Events" and scroll down to the bottom to see if the UB40 show is listed for sale.  Often  the show is listed for sale on Tickets.com BEFORE it's listed on the 930 website...so check both places. It's always a good idea to get a customer account set-up with tickets.com so you can execute purchases quickly.

Finally, sign up for the 930 mailer which can be done by going to the 930 website home page, select "mailing" from the left-side options and sign-up for "List Serve" which will get you a monthly "newsletter" which often list pre-sales for shows and passwords for these presales.  For a band as popular as UB40, there will probably be a 930 pre-sale. The club holds about 1,100, but tickets go fast.

Finally, pay no attention to the mean assholes who post here.  They try to drive away "newbies" by flaming everything you say and the groups you like...be strong.  Eventually, you won't be the newest kid on the playground, and the bullies will get tired of picking on you, and focus on their next target.

Hopefully, we'll see you in April at this great music venue!

Thank you very much BadSushi for your help, Your info is very helpful and the advice about some of the people who are not nice.
I might come down for the concert but there is no info about the tickets going on sale yet.

Thank you all for your info.

UB40 is my favorite reggae band and they are from england. They are going to be touring the US and two cities in Canada ( Toronto & Montreal ). They have a new CD 'Who You Fighting For'. it was released last year in England but Not in the USA so they are going to be promoting (WYFF) in march and April here in North America.
I live in western Canada so Toronto and Montreal are too far from here. my sister lives in DC so I might come and visit with her.
my wife is not a big fan of UB40 so I'm going by myself, hope to meet some of you.

 Thanks again.

There are some "mean assholes", but by far it's not the majority of the people on the board. Really, I truly believe message boards are a microcosm of real life....some assholes, some decent people, some morons, some interesting people.  And just like real life, the bad gets more attention than the good.  Newspapers wouldn't exist if they didn't give the headlines to the bad shit.  NASCAR wouldn't have such high TV ratings if it weren't for the anticipation of the crashes.  Is there an epidemic of white, young, attractive blond girls getting abducted and killed in this country?  No.  But geez, it sure makes for good television. If we gave credence to that, you'd almost believe some young, hot chick was getting abducted every 5 minutes.

This board has good and bad. People who are morons and are mean love the attention. Ignore them (like you said in your post, pay no attention to them).

It's a message board for christsakes, like every other message board I've participated in since the late '90s.  People flex their "cool" or "bully" muscles anonymously online.  Big deal.  Ignore them. Or laugh at them.  Or give it right back to them.  It ain't gonna change.

Freddy, this is the message board for one of the most popular music clubs in the country.  You might not have known that being a Canuck, but we know who UB40 is (are?). When you post on a  message board as a new person (I think the approved technical terms are n00b or newbie), it is sort of protocol to check it out first, catch the vibe, etc.  Your post was innocuous, but could have been more specific.

If you do come to DC, hope you enjoy the show and the club.  If there's anything else you want to know, ask a question and many people here will be happy to help.

In addition don't drop empty cups from the balcony into the trash.  Don't plan on getting baked inside the club and not to baked before hand.

Seriously Bad Sushi, you really need to relax.

We were trying to help the guy, but even I was taken back by Freddy's original post - I had my my doubts if was a genuine post or not.  And do Canadians really say "eh" because I thought that was just a gross over generalization by Americans making fun of Canadians?

After seeking more information, your additional information was helpful, but you're incessant crying has gotten so old.  I doubt Freddy sticks around much longer on the board then to get the info he needs for the one show he's going to be in DC for.  Why the need to vent all of your pent up frustrations for every new person on the board?  Breath in, breath out.  Breath in, breath out.

Wow, Kosmo...I wasn't aware I singled out anyone in particular, but thanks for your usual clarity.

Since there are only about ten people left who post here, Arlette, I'd say the percentage of assholes to the general population is pretty high here.

It took six responses; not one of you offered anything to Freddy.

Finally, thanks for the usual condescension, Vansmack.  BTW:  I've rarely posted in the past months, so I'm not sure where your insinuation about my "incessantly" doing anything comes from...perhaps you've confused me with those who have 3,000-4,000 posts in the past few years.

 Flame away, bitches.

Hey, Freddy16. Welcome! You may not have to deal with all of that Homeland Security bullshit here like you will at the border crossing but we do have our share of loons who will make up for it. Funny thing is, some of them aren't even in DC, nor the US for that matter. Yet another part of our charming appeal.

There's another Freddy around here somewhere who pops his head in once in awhile.

Watch out for that Sonick dude because he'll get your ass deported!    :p

geez... it's was a saturday some of us have other things to do besides give lengthy answers to people seeking info on unannounced shows.  my take is its only official when the club announces a show, as even bands websites can have tentative info.  tours get cancelled, rearrange etc.  i wouldn't want to make plans to travel any distance until the venue has tickets available.

so everytime you post on here you mention that "all these people left the board" ... who? when? why keep saying it if you can't back anything up?

kosmo, just out of curiosity, do you or other admins track traffic on here?

and as for your "six posts" , smackie asked exactly what he wanted to know in post 4.  and only ONE of those posts was even remotely mean. and it was only mean if you knew what a smartass Hoya was already, otherwise, it was just a "wow"

yes, canadians say "eh"  entirely too much. all of them.  in fact, i dont think you could over generalize how much we say "eh".

no typing "eh" in a message board post or email.  not really something i every see anyone do.
its a mental pause like "umm" or "you know".   i thought this post was fake as well when i first read it. but who knows about western canadians  ;)    "eh!"

re: tracking traffic, as far as know there is no formal tracking going on here. informally i have observed there are number of lurkers who from to time popup and post.  i'm guessin' traffic increases when shows sellout and people are looking for tickets, venting etc.

most forum visitors who come here to vent aren't likely to stick around anyways.  the forum will never be as active as one for a platinum selling act like Pearl Jam or a teenie-bop band like All American Rejects.  the 9:30 forum is a bit like the forum over at eMusic where despite all the subscribers over there only a handful post on a regular basis.

it could be interesting to turn on and monitor how many users are indeed active at any given time...

it's a good thing I didn't make my snide remark about a subset of fans likely to attend this show, as it appears that forum admins/mods are required to robots without personalities.

Hi Seth   I'm new here too!  I like the Pixies, Frank Black of course <ha> alot of indie music like Concrete Blonde, totally love Modest Mouse, and PJ Harvey, and a little country like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. I went to Sonar and saw the Pixies but I haven't been to the 9:30 in a while and now and I'm outta touch with whats hot at the 9:30...I'm thinking about tickets to the WU TANG Clan thingy...  Is it a rock venue or a rap venue? Maybe, if I come in here often enough I'll learn alot about whats hot and what not..

Hey Freddy,

Welcome to our country! I am sure you will find Americans very friendly, unless you are French Canadian. There are a few mean people around, but most of us are really nice peeps.

I am familar with this band UB40. They did a fine cover of Neil Diamond's "Red, Red Wine". Correct?

Unfortunately, we won't be able to join you for the show. We'll be in Charlottesville running the Charlottesville Marathon. Perhaps you could come out to C-ville and cheer us on? We'd really appreciate that. They say it's really hill out there, and not the easiest of marathons.

Anyway, welcome to our country, and have an awesome show.

 Your pal,

 Charlie

sometime ago, but i don't remember exactly when, a person on here posted this same basic question.  i can't be sure if they were from canada or not, but it did involve coming to the club to see ub40 and everybody jumped on their shit, just like this.  i can't believe nobody remembers that.  me thinks freddie has been playing his ipod too loud and using his laptap way too long to watch dvds just to see who's watching what he is watching.
