Looks as if DC is going to take it up the arse on these...
-
damn, but her show at NASA is going to be insane!
-
Modest Mouse??? ... talk to me?
-
"damn, but her show at NASA is going to be insane!"
She's only doing 2 songs at the NASA show, it's a benefit and she won't be with full band, so don't feel bad about missing it, now the Sugarcubes reunion show if you missed it should trouble you for eternity it was massive.
Sometimes you have to go to the mountain, and when the mountain is Bjork (or Daft Punk, or Morrissey for that matter) it should be a priority

I am normally of the attitude that if I don't like a band, then I try to just shut up, but I fucking hate Bjork so much that I can't help it. I just can't fathom why ANYONE would travel to see her. The only good thing about Bjork is watching her beat the crap out of that reporter in Bangkok. Fucking weirdo.

I also do not like Bjork at all. I've bought 3 different albums of hers after rave recommendations from many, and hate them all.

modest mouse are rumored at vfest in september
-
Hate is a strong word. What did Bjork do to you? She´s gazillion times more innovative than {insert your fave band here}
:)
-
Oh right. Next you'll tell me that the soundtrack to Drawing Restraint 9 was brilliant too. Trust me, I've tried and tried...I know it's a matter of taste. But that being said, I'll take Gus Gus any day over weird-ass Bjork.
-
Having been a former Bjork hater, I can sympathize Bearman. However, I saw the light after hearing Homogenic. Then I had a chance to see here play at Radio City Music Hall with an orchestra. Excellent show.
This is all NKOTB's fault.

Have ya listened to Homogenic, bearman??

are they going to launch her into space after the show? thats where shes from isnt it?
-
No...that's the one disc that has somehow eluded me. I've heard Post (eh...OK), Telegraph, and a couple of others including the dreadful one she did with Matthew Barney.
-
"I fucking hate Bjork so much that I can't help it."
You hate Bjork, her band, what exactly is this about? I'll admit there are artists I don't like, but hate someone I don't even know? I'm a little lost. What would make more sense and perhaps you were trying to be diplomatic is that you hate an artist's fans because they're so fucking annoying in their cheerleading for any particular artist you don't have an affinity for. If that's the case, it's still slightly silly but definitely makes a little more sense.
But you're shit out of luck on that front here, because she's fucking amazing especially live, if you don't get it I don't mind at all I'd rather keep the bandwagon fairly empty and I won't even take a shot at what you might find similiarly amazing from your perspective though there's even money it wouldn't make my top 10 either.
-
Yeah that Modest Mouse tour is some bullshit not coming here.
-
I too am not into Bjork after repeated attempts. I did however thoroughly enjoy The Sugarcubes - Life's too good. Go figure.
-
I was honestly looking forward to a Modest Mouse show at DAR.
-
Thanks for your honesty.

If I were a big name act I would skip over DC too. The crowds at DC shows are completely dead. Take a look around the 9:30 club during your next show and you would think by the look of everyone that the music hasnt even started yet.
-
Hey fatso, I don't think the enthusiasm of the crowd has anything to do with it.. The band itself has little to do with the booking when they get as big as these acts are. They just go which way they tour manager points them, and that's usually toward where they can make the most money. And if there's not a right sized venue offering the right sized paycheck, they'll skip your town.

Right but if I played NYC and Philly where the crowds actually get into it and then play DC where its just a bunch of zombie like hipsters there for the scene not moving an inch while I play I would make sure I never revisited this city ever again.

Maybe that's because it gets so incredibly crowded that people can barely move, much less dance.
-
I agree with that. A sold out show at the 9:30 club is god awful

The Killers, yeah. I'll agree with you on that. (In all fairness the show they put on was better than I thought it would be, but they kinda annoy me.) The Peppers though, FUCK no. Modest Mouse is a cool band and all, but the Peppers catalog blows their shit out the water. What Anthony Kiedis lacks in sensical lyrics (LOL) he makes up for in stage presence & charisma (goes a LONG way in music.) And I don't think you can honestly tell me that their band is better than Flea, Frusciante, & Chad Smith. Even though Modest Mouse has Johhny Marr now. ("How Soon Is Now?" is 6 plus minutes of GENIUS)
P.S. I have yet to hear a Modest Mouse album better than Californication.
-
You make it sounds like a football game.

Is there any more hackneyed complaint than this?
Every city has a contingent of self-loathing douchebags who wistfully pine for those paradisiacal "other" cities where all the scenesters are righteous. DC just suffers from a surfeit of these insecure dolts.
-
On the Bjork announcement, it does look like she's going to add more dates later.
As far as Modest Mouse goes, that was a suprise to me. I was actually looking forward to seeing them finally get through their songs instead of standing around the Black Cat pretending to be a band like last time (about 7 years ago).
-
And furthermore, how many of these dance purists actually move more than just head-bobbing, foot-tapping and gentle swaying? I'd guess about 5% if that.

HAHAHAHA

Modest Mouse's album debuted at #1 on the Billboard album charts beating the Shins' #2 and Arcade Fire's #2 debuts. Indie is the new mainstream, right?
-
What's with all the Bjork hate?
She's 1000% original, innovative, and forward thinking with her music. I love LOVE love her. And with that being said, I'll be getting my tickets tomorrow morning for Denver and 2 of the NY shows.
Who else is in?
-
i hate dance nazis ... i don't have to fucking dance if i don't want to!!!

have you ever been anywhere else? do you really think this is unique to DC?
-
Considering that the tour dates only go up until May, with that Spanish June date, I'd bet that Modest Mouse will be around some more in the summer and fall.
-
Sometime in early August I would think
-
oOoOoOoOo ;)

We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance
And if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine
