A friend of mine was playing me this new British band and the lyrics went something along the lines of I woke up this morning, work fucking sucked, etc. etc. It's a recent release, and I can't remember the exact words or the band name. Any guesses?

But what about that new love song, you know, with the girl singer. What's that?
Way...too...many...years...in...retail....

It was probably by the Libertines, or Bloc Party, or one of those bands. My internet search has turned up useless as almost every band says fuck in a song.

Sorry, I thought you were joking. The question struck me as a variation on the perennial love song inquiry.

All the, small things
True care, truth brings
I'll take, one lift
Your ride, best trip
Always, I know
You'll be at my show
Watching, waiting, commiserating
Say it ain't so, I will not go, turn the lights off, carry me home
Na, Na.......
Late night, come home
Work sucks, I know
She left me roses by the stairs
Surprises let me know she cares
Say it ain't so, I will not go, turn the lights off, carry me home
Na, Na......
Say it ain't so, I will not go, turn the lights off, carry me home
Keep your head still I'll be your thrill, the night will go on, my little
redmill

go on, my little redmill

Top. Jag, you've got to know this. Or Kurosawa, or someone! This is eating at me.

Not off-hand. Have a feeling that this one is more up Kurosawa's alley. I'll keep an ear out for it though.

I bet it's an Arctic Monkeys song. Do you have an actual lyric?
-
Y'know, it might be them. No lyrics off hand, just the general idea that work sucks and getting up sucks. They use the word fuck also.
-
Is it possible you are listening to The Rakes: "The Guilt"? I'll get you lyrics

I just woke up
Everything was fucked
From the night before
I was beyond repair
I had just woke up
Everything was wrong
All the cats were dead
And the phones were gone
I had just woke up
Like a heart attack
I weren't coming back
And mum was dressed in black
I had just woke up
I had just woke up
Everything was fucked
Everything was fucked
The guilt won't leave my circulation
The guilt won't leave my circulation
The guilt won't leave my circulation
The guilt won't leave my circulation
I had just woke up
In someone elses bed
She was overweight
Who did I do last night?
I felt paradise
In between girl's thighs
It was quick and nice
The feelings cold as ice
I could hardly walk
And I had the shakes
Had to eat some fruit
Or I was gonna faint
I had just woke up
I had just woke up
Everything was fucked
Everything was fucked
The guilt won't leave my circulation
The guilt won't leave my circulation
The guilt won't leave my circulation
The guilt won't leave my circulation
I need one day a week
For my cuts to heal
Take every Monday off
With my blood shot eyes
If work only knew
What I got up to
At the weekend
They wouldn't speak to me
Or pretend to be my friends
Take every Monday off
With my blood shot eyes
With my blood shot eyes
I had just woke up
I had just woke up
Everything was fucked
Everything was fucked
The guilt won't leave my circulation
The guilt won't leave my circulation
The guilt won't leave my circulation
The guilt won't leave my circulation
Alot of their songs are about work sucking and the like, and they're a new Brit band. Sorry if this isn't it, but it's the only thing I could think of.

That is exactly it! Thanks.

You're welcome. Their single is similar if you like that song.

and the rakes are just brilliant in concert. caught them with kurosawa at CMJ. oh so worth a trip to new york to see them. now if only they would come here with maximo park, i could die a happy girl. ok well thats not really true :)

Ah, I'm a bit late on this one! Econo, if you like that song, you would indeed like the whole album. That song's especially brilliant, though, because of the way he sings "Everything was fucked, maaaaan." You can hear the song here (http://www.therakes.co.uk/go.php?object=music_and_video). Actually, I think you can listen to the whole album.
