what a great new album! i was thinking, when i saw it was a "reggae" thing, that it was going to suck big time, but how far from the truth that was. first willie nelson, then o' conner. bloodclots can dance with the jah just fine. can't wait until the show in december.

I have to admit, Sinead's album is miles better than Willie's.
Why aren't Sly & Robbie shown on the 9:30 calendar?

I know that. That goes a long way in explaining why the album is so good.
Sly & Robbie are also touring "with" her. Pollstar lists both of them. Are they just in the backing band? Or will they be doing a set of their own? If it is the latter, I will gladly pay the $40. If it's the former, I might pass.

Have any of you heard Serge Gainsbourg's reggae albums?

i didn't know they were touring with her as well! omg, that will be awesome. any insight, mr. bigwig(s) at the club? i have the unfortunate task of going with some giggly girls who wanted to see her because of "nothing compares to u." i try to tell them, "she has other songs, you know?" but they're too busy sucking on the mixed drink straws.
do you think it will be rude of me to wear my sonic youth "ny ghosts" shirt that has the dj and the dancing pope on the front? i would love for her to sign it, but i don't want her spitting on me or anything. she is my personal jesus and all.

Econo, I've actually been wondering why NONE of the reviews I've seen of Sinead's album bother to mention Aux armes et cetera or Ginsbourg's other reggae output. I mean, it's practically an identical undertaking, right down the fact that both artists relied on Sly & Robbie to add the "authenticity" necessary to take their projects from vanity, novelty albums to genuinely enjoyable pop music. Of course, Sinead can actually sing, but that's merely a detail. I guess the collective memory of music critics just doesn't extend back as far (or quite as broadly) as one might hope.

I haven't heard Sinead's latest, but if it's anything like Gainsbourg's reggae albums, I think I'll pass.

Anyone else go?
I thought it was great. Sly and Robbie's set was fantastic and - although she had a couple of flat spots - Sinead's set was excellent as well.
You could have heard a pin drop during Jah No Dead. Definitely the highlight of the show.
NPR streamed the show:

A guy I work with went, no reports from him yet. He wasn't even aware her new album was a reggae album.
Did she do stuff other than reggae?

It was an all-reggae show, which clearly caught a few people off-guard.

I still love The Lion and the Cobra. I would have been asking for "I Want Your (Hands On Me)".

Ditto...I would have been shouting for "Mandinka."

I would have been handing her a picture of the pope.
