Title: Federal Hill eating options?
Post by: Charlie Nakatestes, Japanese Golfer on November 01, 2005, 05:28:00 pm
Anybody have any eating recommendations for someplace within walking distance of the 8x10 Club? Preferably someplace with some good vegetarian options. And no, fish does not count as vegetarian. Thanks!

You think that's bad? I have people assume I can eat chicken. Chicken!

Hey it is called the Meat and Poultry group therefore poultry is not meat!

There is a good Mexican place a couple blocks away, forget the name.  Went there with some veg friends and they did fine.

There's a few places you could go.  There's SOBO cafe that's on cross Street, after Charles.  If you're facing the 8x10, turn left and keep walking.  But, be warned that you will smell like the restaurant when you leave.

There's also Blue Agave on Light Street.  Super good Mexican food.  If you're going on Fri/Sat night, make reservations.

I also like the pizza and beer at the Thirsty Dog, on Cross Street.

For Dessert, go to Spoons on Cross Street.

They should all be veggie friendly.

That is the one I was thinking of.

Thirsty Dog is good, inoffensive, and reasonably priced. But you'll have to dodge the army of jackasses spilling out of Magerk's etc. if you go on a weekend.

Blue Agave was on the short list of links that my wife sent me.

Also on the list was Crazy Lil's and Vespa.

 Any opinions on those?

SOBO Cafe
 Ten-O-Six
 Blue Agave

If you want the best meal, make reservations at Bicycle Bistro (http://www.bicyclebistro.com/). It's expensive but worth it.  A few blocks (probably 4) from 8x10.

I'd go with the 'Skewered Taxpayer Chops' at Chez FU

Bicycle is one of my favorite restaurants in b'more.  I couldn't remember if they have alot of veggie options though....

Vespa always looks like it's filled w/ pretentious people.  I hear the food is good though.

Vespa? Well, I ate there once. Food wasn't bad but the big cockroach crawling up the wall next to our table kind of spoiled it.  The staff scooped it off the wall quickly and discreetly, maybe they had prior practice...

We ended up eating cheap, good pizza and drinking cheap, good beer at Thirsty Dog Cafe. Thanks for all the suggestions!
