Title: Ted Leo is whiny radio music?

Ok, so i was just jammin last night to the new Ted Leo and my girlfriend said "how can you like this but not like the whiny stuff on the radio?"
 
   and i said... "ted leo is NOTHING like that"
 
  she insisted that he WAS.  but would not provide any examples.  
 
   so my question is, what IS the difference? and what are the similarities?
 
    does she have any basis of thinking Ted Leo is one marketing scheme away from the land of mega-radio hits?
 
    or is that the point?

It would blow a hole in the radio, when it hasn't sounded good all week.
