Title: Bad Experience With the Club
Post by: ArvinSmee on November 02, 2005, 04:18:00 pm
I just wanted to relate this story to release frustration and as a warning to others.  About a year ago I went to a show at 930 with a friend.  Though we had already paid for tickets, we didn't get in because our lips were stained red from drinking some wine earlier and we didn't have ID's us (well he had his, but he was under 21).  Both of us were mostly sober (seriously, I only had about 4 glasses).  I was pretty pissed, but I guess since we didn't have our ID's, I couldn't really argue.  They told us to wait outside till we "sobered up? with a bunch of drunks who definitely belonged outside the club.  Note: this is November, it is not warm outside, and we had dressed to be in a hot club.  So 45 minutes go by, we??re freezing, we go up front to see if they??ll let us in, and the woman yells at us ??You can come in when I say you can come in!  Ask one more time and I??ll never let any of you [me, my friend, and the other outcasts] back in!?  So we wait another 30 minutes, nearly freezing to death (I really wanted to go to this show, and I had no ride and no where to go in DC, I??m from Annapolis).  I go up to the door, and tell the lady politely that I was freezing outside, so I need to know if she was ever gonna let us in, because if not I was gonna leave.  Surprisingly she was polite and motioned for me to go inside.  I walked in and the guy at the desk said ??Let me see your hands.?  I was pretty excited at this point, as I hadn??t missed the closing act.  I must have had a big stupid grin across my face until I saw the man put X??s my hands and say ??Now get out.  If you come back we??ll call the cops.?  This is fucking ridiculous.  Getting kicked out for red lips and no ID??s is one thing, but waiting outside for an hour and 15 minutes in the cold to be told that we had to leave was just cruel.  Because 930 is the premier venue in DC, and its capacity is so much higher and it pulls bigger name acts than the Black Cat, DC9, or any other club, it feels like it can treat people as shitty as it wants.  Fuck 930.  I only go there if I absolutely have to (Super Furry Animals and Immortal Technique for example).  If I can avoid the place I??ll drive up to Baltimore to see a show.  The Ottobar is smaller and cooler anyway.  Oh, here??s the post script.  We getting lost in the area for 20 minutes before we found the party we came from ?? a wine and cheese party -- my friend??s brother??s friend??s girlfriend??s wine and cheese party -- where we knew no one.  Fun times.

Here's my clean edit so you won't delete the post.  I want people to see this:

This is f***ing ridiculous. F*** 930. I only go there if I absolutely have to (Super Furry Animals and Immortal Technique for example). If I can avoid the place I??ll drive up to Baltimore to see a show. The Ottobar is smaller and cooler anyway. Oh, here??s the post script. We getting lost in the area for 20 minutes before we found the party we came from ?? a wine and cheese party -- my friend??s brother??s friend??s girlfriend??s wine and cheese party -- where we knew no one. way to wait a year to tell your story so that people from the club probably cant remember your particular incident and give their side of the story

So basically you're a lightweight drunk who goes to the Naval Academy? Why is someone who goes to the Naval Academy going to a wine and cheese party in DC, anyway? What are you, some kind of pussy? How do you feel about girls with mohawks?

Don't ask.  Don't tell.

Haha no I don't go to the Naval Academy, I went to Dickinson College.  I didn't know the club employees were on this forum, I didn't even know it existed till today.  I wasn't drunk, he saw my lips, asked me if I had been drinking and I said yes.  I didn't feel the need to lie cause I was 21.  I didn't think I needed my ID cause I wasn't gonna drink inside.  I don't care about girls with mohawks.  Just because I don't like your club you want to pigeon hole me as a homophobic military light weight conformist?  It's funny how you stereotype when you bitch about other people stereotyping you.

What kind of wine were you drinking? Was it Ripple? Or Strawberry Hill? I don't know...the red wine I've had has never stained my lips. Next time tell them it was Kool Aid.

If you are underage and drunk inside the club, a liquor inspector might assume you got the alcohol from the club.  They lose their liquor license, we lose a great concert venue.  I assume that is the rationale.  Realize that underage in DC if you are .01 they can get you for being drunk.  Even if you are overage they can do that (unless they have already changed the law).

I know.  That's why I said I wasn't so pissed about not being let in.  Hence "I couldn't really argue." What I was really aggravated about what being told I could come back in when I sobered up, getting yelled at when I was being polite, and then being tricked into having my hands X'd out and being threatened with a call to the police.  If they had just told me that I wasn't ever going to be let back in, it would have saved me an hour and fifteen minutes in the cold.  Granted I would have been pissed, but I would have eventually gotten over the incident realizing it was my mistake for not bringing my ID.

I was thinking the same thing...there's no way for the club to prove they didn't serve you, and they could be liable for any trouble you cause in or around the club.  I also love the "I wasn't drunk!" claims...obviously they smelled liquor on you or you were acting drunk - I doubt they would assume a perfectly sober upstanding looking person was drunk based solely on red lips. Keep in mind that the 930 employees have to deal with drunks and underage kids trying to get drunk all day, every day, and probably don't have all that much patience for them.

BTW, DC did change the .01 law, right after that article ran in the Post.

You should actually read my post.  I told him I had drank.  My friend also may have contributed to him asking me the question, since he always looks like he's on drugs.

But heck, you have to admit, it's a more interesting neighborhood to hang around in for 75 minutes than any place in Annapolis, right?

Did I tell you guys about the last time we were in Annapolis and this taxi cab driver almost ran us over, even though we were in the crosswalk and had the walk signal? My wife flipped him the bird, and he yelled out of the cab, calling her a "faggot" and challenging her to a fight. Can't say I want to go back to Annapolis anytime soon. Man, that place has a crappy vibe. Why would you want to live there anyway?

Actually, I don't particularly like Annapolis.  It's full of rich pretentious assholes who like to go into bars and order $5 drafts and eat oysters.... kinda like DC.  The difference is we have better waterfront and less culture.  What is truly pathetic, however, is watching you people get defensive cause I dissed your club.  So far you have called me homosexual, dissed my hometown, claimed I go to the naval academy and called me a pussy.  Inferiority complex maybe?

Nope. Just thankful that the club had the good common sense to keep out a bunch of obnoxious underaged drunks that would have spoiled my good time.

No, the internet just is a great way to insult peole you don't know.  Amazing isn't it?

By the way, this is tame for this lot (and most of these posters don't work for the club, they are just patrons).

Who called you a homo? I only accused you of being a naval academy person, which is far worse than being a homo.

Your hometown sucks whether I diss it or not. Your best bet is to move, because the suckage isn't going to stopany time soon.

And you were at that wine and cheese party. I think that speaks for the pussy part.

Finally the 9:30 Club is not my club. My name is Rhett, not Seth.

I have a question for you. Do you wear white t-shirts under polo shirts?

If you care, I don't wear polo; I took the "don't ask don't tell" as a homophobic comment; and you should check your reading skills cause I wasn't underage.  And the wine and cheese party?  My friend's brother's friend's girlfriend's place.  Didn't know anyone there. (Not really my crowd - full of pretentious DC assholes.  Doesn't say anything bad about me, but maybe about your town..... )  And yes, the internet is a great place to insult people you don't know.  But look at the posts and you'll see where the insults started.  Honestly I kinda like DC, despite its flaws.  I just find it amusing that people from here have this defensive pride that you find in underprivileged and disenfranchised groups.  (Think southern pride.)  Everyone hates on them so they take what they've been hated on for a make it into a good thing.  (Masta Ace - "I'm ghetto like....")

Stupid mistake by me.  I probably had Jarslburg on my breath as well.  Please continue your sarcastic comments about my style of dress and hometown, I'm out of work (and out of DC) and have no use for internet distractions any longer.  Peace.  See you at the SFA show (you know what I'll be wearing).

Ok. I received a very nice email from Shadrach (thank you) which apologized to me for what happened, and I was thinking that maybe the people at 930 were just having a bad night (there were a lot of drunk obnoxious people outside).  But these responses prove my point that the 930 employees (which I??m assuming you are, cause being a 930 groupie is just fucking lame) are just assholes.  I??m surprised that vansmack spent the time to quote me and dis me on every subject, but seeing as I??m unable to walk away from a fight, I might as well dip to his level cause his misinformation is pissing me off.

 1. I fuckin hate the military.  I don??t know why you try to paint me as a naval academy officer or something.  Live in a town where every bar is filled with drunk horny pseudo-sailors and you??ll hate the military too.

 2. The show was Atmosphere and Blueprint, actually I was thinking about it and it was two years ago.   Call him an emo-rapper or whatever.  I listen to better hip-hop that you, shut the fuck up.  I??ll school you on anything.  (If you know your hip hop then you know that Ottobar gets better acts anyway, for a much lower price)

 3. You all sound like a bunch of conservative grandma??s bitching about underage drinking.  Jesus, if you believe that you shouldn??t drink under 21 and that you don??t question authority (or break the law) maybe you should join the military.  Or vote republican.  Fascist assholes.

 4. ??Can??t take cold weather?  -- that??s pretty lame.  Try harder next time.

 5. Same with the women telling me what to do. You??re really reaching here.

 6. Yeah, I had no idea how to get back to the party cause someone else lead the way to the show, I was in an unfamiliar area, and hadn??t paid attention on the way in (I didn??t expect to have to find my way back).

 7. OK it??s a headliner.   Big mistake by me, oh God I??m so embarrassed.

 8. Another one not worth a response.

 9. I wasn??t too drunk to remember my ID, I left it at school before I came down.

Do you people seriously just post on this forum on night and all day and dis people?  God damn you need to find something better to do.   I??m sorry I dissed your sacred establishment.  I have yet to see one of you who can catch a contradiction in my argument or pull something witty over on me.  You use the same lame subjects (ie the navy) over and over again.  At best you could say something like ??well you??re responding to our immature disses so that make you lame too.?  But no, your mind can??t even think that far.  I wouldn??t be surprised if the next post says ??yo mama?.  Fuckin wack.
