I can attest to this phenomenon, as my recent jaunt to Germany (last week) included even more beer consumption than I could have imagined -- it's the one beverage you can be sure is cold and refreshing. So I say, we should support our suffering brethren across the ocean and drink up! - Bags

LONDON, Aug. 14 â?? With record-setting temperatures across Europe, Britons have fled for beaches, parks and pools. But while the heat wave has pushed suffering city-goers outdoors, they havenâ??t left their famous bitters behind. And the surge in binge drinking, especially among young people, has led to calls for a dramatic changes to the nationâ??s pub culture.

They've taken everything else from us that's British, may as well take the only thing we have left.

We still have the red uniforms and big fur hats, but only for the doodle tourists at Buckingham Palace..and we gave up on the marching into battle in a straight line after you had the French fight your battles for you all those years ago. Seems we've now got this battle thing down better than you lot going by the losses in Iraq.

Never do things for yourself that you can get others to do for you.Unless you enjoy it.

You know what's funny, I hadn't read the whole article. I assumed it was all on the increase in consumption during this heat wave.
Yeha, that's it Mank, we'll take from you being the most visibly drunk people in Europe! [Who are we kidding, if we were in Europe, we probably would be anyway.]
-
Hey Mank, why do you live here again?
-
He drinks a whisky drink
He drinks a vodka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him
Of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him
Of the better times:
"Oh Danny Boy
Danny Boy
Danny Boy..."

Because the American injustice system gave custody of my daughter to an American mother who doesn't give a rats about anything other than the child support check.
Any other questions?

You've never put it that way. Sorry to hear about that.

You're one of us now.

Not to worry yank....I'll be in Ireland and just flying over for the games most weekends.
Guiny, believe me when I say this....I want to go a whole lot more than you want me gone, I'll leave the door open though to let more illegals in, which seems to be the preferred way.

Don't you know that the Irish don't like the English? I hope for your sake that you'll be in Northern Ireland and not the Republic.
In all seriousness, I thought you were coming over to Manchester this month. Are you still coming?

My wife and most of our social circle over here are Irish/English, we get on better than we do with the doodles. The Irish aren't full of themselves, more intelligent, well mannered and have a sense of humor.
The trip got cancelled because of the thieving bastard airlines by the way.

The Irish as opposed to the English? I agree 100% with that comment.
Sorry to hear about your trip Mankie. Let me know when you do plan to come back over for a visit. And you'd better get back into the swing of adding those U's. It's humour, not humor. Maybe you an American? :D
-
Dear Sir,
Do you mean to say that the English are full of themselves, not well mannered, and don't have a sense of humour?
With warmest regards,
Thirsty Moore

Did I forget to mention, not in denial of their many faults?

Is that why the UK is considered a drinking culture?

Such as their inability to properly use the "reply with quote" function?

Not a problem for the English, given the state of English cuisine (is that an oxymoron).
-
Okay, so Yank you're (living?) in England now. Are you an ex-pat, or a Brit?
Mank is *so* obviously a Brit reluctantly in the U.S. (I agree about the Irish).
And Markie is another Brit living here, right?
Is that it for the limey contingent?
-
Judging from what I know of British food, I wouldn't eat much of it either.

Bags, If you go to previous topics you will see I've come to the defense of the US many times on this board when other members are really having a go at the country....I am here reluctantly but only poke fun at the place and it's natives.
Some people hate the place but stay here anyway, if I hated the place there's no way I would've stayed for the last 17+ years.

I'll agree with you on that one! However, I don't mind a Sierra Nevada or Yuengling once in a while.

I never was into that Paddy-phile stuff, its always those 5th and 6th generation American-Irish that act the fools on the 17th.
but I do get a little Irish every day thanks to my beautiful, immigrant wife from Galway!

So, you've got yourself a Galway Girl?

Steve Earle has a catchy little tune called Galway girl that would probably tickle you and your girl. It's a nice song.
-
I'll definetly have to get it, is the rest of Transcendental Blues any good?

Not by doodles, she does have some standards.

You can't keep a good Mic down.....or from falling down. They'll just perfect the pub crawl.

Oh, I beg to differ...the Irish lads are on the losing end of any punch-up with an Irish lass....and why do you think a scouser had to marry a doodle???? No Brit would have them!
:D :p

My Irish ancestry is from Galway, specifically, Conomara(sp?). (I think I'm 3rd or 4th generation; but a European mutt, when all is said and done.) Supposedly we have some relatives in Galway now but I have no clue who they are. My aunt told me not long ago what business some of them are in but I don't really remember. Think it may have been real estate.
