Okay...
A guy I worked with years ago went to the premiere of the first "Batman" (Michael Keaton). In the restroom he saw Arch at the next urinal. "I saw his dick" he told us.
When I saw "Serial Mom" one of the minor actors was in the audience with several friends.
I saw "Roger and Me" in Baltimore after which Michael Moore talked about the movie and "Downsize This!"
-
i waved hi to dave grohl at black cat bar...
i stood next to rep henry waxman at a light on conn av and s st in 1998.
wahoo, yay.
oh yeah, i used to be an intern at a boston tv station and drove wench-reporter uma pemaraju [hot looking] who's now on fox 'so-called newschannel'. i pissed her off on a long drive when i took her to fall river for a story -- because i wasnt all pc and openly disagreed with her on some topics and didnt kiss her ass liek she expected.
-
I saw NYC mayor Ed Koch, accompanied by his younger male "companion", leaving "The Cook, His Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover", with tears in his eyes.
I realize this is nowhere near as good as seeing Arch Campbell's dick, or seeing Arch period, but it counts for something, right?
-
Did I ever mention the time Gwyneth Paltrow was hitting on me?

Well at least she's consistent, looks-wise, in the caliber of men she goes for:

George Michael and his daughter eating dinner at Ruby Tuesday's at Tysons II. Apparently, he ate dinner there every Monday night.
And yes, his face looks like tons of make-up powder has been applied.
-
since we are on the subject of movies, the one and only time The Police played in my hometown, they all went to this movie and sat in the back row.
Nobody even knew they were there until people spotted them leaving after the show was over.
yes... exciting ... I know.
-
Does his daughter get it on with strange men in public restrooms as well?

bought former senator phil gramm a drink at the upstairs bar at 930.

if you like your celeb sightings, keep your head on a swivel if you're catching a flick at the angelika in ny. no dick sightings to report, but just about every movie i have ever seen there at night has come complete with a celeb sighting of some stripe. my buddy took a leak next to lou reed there a few years ago. he noted that he was wearing wrestling type shoes. i guess that was before every vertical striped shirt guy was rocking that look.

I saw him at an Aden show at the Black Cat once (his son is the lead singer), but I don't think Aden ever played the 9:30, so one wonders...

Michael Wilbon ate at my restaurant. Though I wasn't his server...
And Johnny Holliday had reservations one night after a Terps game, but had to cancel.

I was once at a swingers party at an undicloseable location in Washington, and the next thing I know, I found myself fondling Mayor Williams' wife's right breast. She seemed very pleased, as did her husband.

That's where I saw Ed Koch.

My first day of waiting tables at the Courtyard by Marriott in Fairfax, I waited on Amy Grant (she was playing Pat Ctr that night.) I sat next to George Stephanopoulos at opening night of "Welcome to the Dollhouse" at Dupont Circle. This all sounded much more interesting in my head.
-
Neal Schon, guitar player for Journey, bummed a cigarette from me at the train station in Poughkeepsie, NY, and later that day I wound up sharing a cab with him in Albany. Seemed like a decent enough guy.

ah, i forgot about that ... do you like aden? i find them a little to twee-y for my tastes ...
-
At the Avalon I saw "Far From Heaven" with George Stephanopolous and his girlfriend in the audience, which I found particularly funny as there were rumors swirling that George is gay and the movie's about a married guy who has gay affairs in the repressed, closeted 50s.
-
Joey Santiago bummed a cigarette from me in my hotel lobby bar after Lollapalooza.
-
I saw Willard Scott on TV.
-
i saw color me bad walking to their tour bus at the hotel i used to swim at in high school. i totally sped up and one of the dudes ran to the sidewalk. good times
-
I've been in Sen. Harry Reid's kitchen while tripping.

yeah, he was there to see his son in aden. they opened for luna at 930, at least once. . .i think this particular time was sometime in 2001.
-
Ive seen George Stephanopolous completely naked.

Black Cow was Aden's peak...good indie pop, definitely a bit wimpy, but a far cry from twee champs like Wolfie or Trembling Blue Stars, I'd say. The last 2 Aden albums were disappointments.

all i have is "hey 19" ... is "black cow" worth looking around for? i generally like their style of music, just didn't like "hey 19" that much

Isn't 'Black Cow' a Steely Dan tune as well?
I'm guessing this isn't merely coincidence.
-
Yup, ol Jeff Gramm has a thing for Steely Dan. And also for Ron Sexsmith, I read in an interview, which makes more sense.
Definitely track down Black Cow. Probably find it for a couple bucks on Amazon. It combines the romanticism of the debut with the tight playing of Hey 19. Hey 19 was OK but the songs weren't about anything engaging.

Earlier this year I was crushed against the bar at the Continental Club in Austin by Colin Farrell. He apologized, called me sweetheart, and offered to buy me a drink but I already had one and was more interested in watching Dale Watson and his Lone Stars anyway. Why oh why couldn't it have been Johnny Depp?
-
Because Johnny Depp lives in Paris with his girlfriend and children, and probably doesn't listen to good country music?
-
i dunno, i think johnny depp would be more into good country music than colin
-
Colin was definitely there for the party, not the music, he didn't pay any attention to Dale. But he sure did buy a lot of drinks for random people in the club. It was amazing how quickly girls in bustiers appeared too...not your usual Dale Watson show attire.

crossed the street with Queen Latifah...
ate lunch next to John Mayer...
walked down the street/shopped in front of Jessica Alba...
sat behind Adam Sandler at an awards show...
brushed by Fred Durst (and then ran into him again a few moths later)...
shopped with Paris Hilton...
got a compliment on my pearls from Jimmy Fallon...
bumped into Halle Berry at the mall...
called Adam Levine's cell phone...
recieved countless hugs from various other "band dudes"...
oh young Hollywood; I could go on forever.
-
Years ago, for awhile, I use to see Johnny Depp all the time in the Club Charles in Baltimore. Even got to do the close quarters squeeze by a few times that is so often part of crowded small popular club life. :D Didn't know who he was but kept thinking he was just some very cute new guy at that club. This was just after 21 Jump Street which I never watched so only knew of him by name at the time. Little did I know!

i temped for 1 day at john mclaughlins production office at conn av and m st shortly after moving to sunny and smiley dc in '97. oliver productions. he signed my timesheet. still hav it. i oughta sell it on ebay.
his office looks like it belongs to bob guccione. his wife is way younger, imagine that -- anyone is younger than him. his production guy went to my gym , the Y on m st + 17th, and i caught him there and said he's a real dick to work for, that his prod staff was like a revolving door. jerry-jack-germond-jerwiliker-patty-byook-byook....

Played 18 holes behind Michael Jordan. My buddy and I just made it look like we were playing and basically watched his round the whole time. I hit golf balls next to him on the driving range before we teed off.
Two weeks ago in Florida saw Derek Jeter on the golf course and talked with him for a few minutes.
yes, I play a lot of golf...

John Waters was sitting next to my friend in the row behind me at the premiere to South Park - Bigger, Longer & Uncut at the Charles in Baltimore.
A few years ago, when she was in town for a production of "The Graduate" on stage, We saw Alicia Silverstone shopping around at Whole Foods (then Fresh Fields) in Baltimore.
When I lived in Buffalo, during the filming of Vincent Gallo's awful first movie (well before his awful second movie came out), Christina Ricci, then 17, was often spotted drinking at my friend's bar. I unfortunately was not there the day she was so drunk she urinated on her bar stool.
More recently, Ran into Madeline Albright at the Plastic People of the Universe show at the Black Cat in May.

I used to ride in the elevator with her every so often at my old office building in Dupont. I'm assuming she got into the Plastic People show for free, as they are Czech. Wonder what she thought of the music?

i got "detained" by the Clash road crew because 20k went missing at a show on the "Cut The Crap" tour. basically anyone working backstage at this show as Michigan State Uni was under "suspicion" after the concert. nothing came of it, and there was speculation that the money went missing because of all the lawsuits going on at the time of that tour.
-
Spike Lee, at Mazza Gallerie for a showing of Spirited Away a few years back.
James Earl Jones, at my school to Verizohype the afterschool program for which I'm a coach.
-
I'm escorting Patti Smith around for an evening next week. That could be cool.
-
I get the feeling she smokes a lot of weed. Also, she's one of those not so hot rocker chicks that I still have a soft spot for. I talked with her on the phone once. She seems like a cool chick, but beyond that, not so much.
-
Jammed with Dave Grohl. He pretty much destroyed my friends drumset and tried to give him some money to replace the broken sticks and drumheads. I've hung out with him a few times...he's a really nice and funny guy.
Met Michael Stipe at a bar in Philly after their show at whatever the 20,000 seat arena up there is called. They were touring with Grant Lee Buffalo at the time and came by the club after their show to see the Railroad Jerk. The club stayed open til 3 or 4 hosting an after hours impromptu jam with members of all 3 bands. Not really a huge fan of either but it was still pretty cool for some dumb reason.
I worked with Patti Smith's brother Todd, the one who died the same year that her husband Fred died. (Sid Vicious's last arest was for attacking Todd in NY, when released from jail he od'd and died)..
Tripping on acid in the Gwar art studio was fun about 15 years ago too..

I bet Bethesda is the new Hollywood. My friend totally saw Hillary Duff and Joel Madden dining in Mon Ami Gabi a few months ago...
(most likely because Joel's sister works at Hugo, but shhhh)

I'm trying to think of all the famous people I've met over the years...here's a list off the top of my head:
Mike Ditka
Jessie Camp (the scuzzy MTV VJ...at a roadside stop in Ohio somewhere)
Alec Baldwin
James Earl Jones
Charles Durning
Selma Blair
Ahmet Zappa
Chris Issac
Tom Selleck
Dolly Parton
Woody Harrelson
John Waters
Dave Thomas (Wendy's guy, not Pere Ubu...though I met him too)
I know there's more but I'm blanking on them. In DC it's pretty hard not to run into celebs at some point.
-
Oh yeah, earlier this year I was sitting on the plane next to Jeff "Skunk" Baxter from the Doobie Bros, Steely Dan, Linda Ronstadt, etc. All I could do was think of snorting coke off with Stevie Nicks off a glass piano or something. He was cool as hell though...we ended up talking for like 2 hours.

i think a true namedropper is someone who tries to make ppl think they r hot shit b/c they are associated in some way w famous ppl. i dont think i see anyone doing that here. in my case i like to bring the ppl ive met down to earth in most cases. besides, in this town it's no big deal.

There's Hoya, hittin' the nail right on the head. She is such a celebrity name-droppin' whore.
Anyway, couple of weeks ago ran into Mike Myers in a NYC coffee shop. Had to ask him about being cast as Keith Moon. He said he's nervous and is practicing the drums for hours each day. He asked me if I was a fan of the Who, I said a big one, and he said, "Do you think I made a mistake? Are Who fans going to rake me over the coals?" He seemed sincere and not doing that fake self-deprecating thing that celebrities do sometimes.

I actually think Mike Myers can pull off a decent Keith Moon. Hell, he does a great Mick Jagger...but given he is somewhat musically inclined, I can picture him rocking out. That will be a tough one though. Who (besides Animal from the Muppets) can REALLY do a Keith Moon?

So last night I was out at dinner (P.F. Chang's near White Flint) and a couple of the guys from Good Charlotte walked in. I was sitting at the bar and asked the bartender if my eyes were seeing correct and she said something like "Yes...and if I wasn't so busy I'd love to go over there and tell them how much their music sucks". Classic.
