Title: hfs festival for the dot comrades
Post by: markie on August 15, 2003, 06:04:00 pm
Dear Mark,

You've heard the rumors. Another HFStival this year? IT'S TRUE!

HFStival 2003 - The Fall Edition
 Saturday, October 4th
 RFK Stadium

Beginning this Monday, August 18th at 10:00 AM, you can access the HFStival - The Fall Edition online ticket pre-sale. Just like the last 3 HFStivals, tickets are still priced at only $39.00! (That's roughly $1.00 for every artist you can see at this year's show). But, be warned, these pre-sale tickets will be available for a limited time only!

Tune in to 99.1 HFS for the line-up announcement, this Monday, August 18th at 7:00am, with the Junkies in the Morning!

Tickets for the general public don't go on sale until Saturday, August 23rd at 9:00 AM through Ticketmaster, but YOU, my friend, happen to be an HFS.Comrade, and YOU can get tickets before everyone else. Here's how:

Just go to <http://www.whfs.com/hfstivalfalledition/presale.html>http://www.whfs.com/hfstivalfalledition/presale.html. On that page, you'll find more ticket information , a link to Ticketmaster.com(available Monday, August 18th at 10:00 AM), and the secret password that you'll need to use. It's that simple. (If you encounter any problems during this process, call us at 301-306-3735 and we'll walk you through it).

This is our way of saying "Thank You" for listening to WHFS, and for allowing us the privilege of having you as an esteemed HFS.Comrade. Remember, WHFS maintains strict privacy standards for all HFS.Comrades at all times.

We'll see you at HFStival 2003 - The Fall Edition!

--Your fellow HFS.Comrades at 99.1 HFS

Why did they have to throw in Citizen Cope?  Now I might have to go just to see his 30 minute set.

Why doesn't HFS broaden it's appeal a little bit?  I usually go to these festivals to see the 4 or 5 bands I want to see.  In the spring that number diminished to 2 (Hot Hot heat and blur... yeah, I know Jane's was added, but I didn't count on it).  Blur dropped so I stayed home.  This lineup shows only BRMC on my list... meaning I'll probably be on my porch again.  I believe the "kids" will show even if only a few crap bands are booked.  Possibly even throwing in a handfull of bands to get some baby boomers out..... the festival is way too one sided, and you'd think the gate sales would prompt someone to reconsider their approach.

HFS has not really changes their playlist much since the mid-nineties from what I hear of it, why would they try and broaden their appeal with their concerts?

I signed up when I first got here, hfstival used to have things like smashing pumpkins and Beck, bigger American acts that I once liked........

Either I am getting old or HFStival is getting incrementally worse..... I wonder have ticket sales and prices suffered, please say they have to massage my ego.

I just go for the heck of it. I dont know 3/4's of the bands but its a festival with lots of people. I figure if the people on this board don't like the music then it must be worth a try to listen too. Can't be any worse then The Eel's.

They have.  Back in the day, it would sell out in a couple of hours.  I think the last couple have not sold out at all.

I'm in the same prediciment.  Is it me, am I old, or do these lineups suck?  I went to a number of HFStivals in the mid-90s and saw some great bands, both indie and 'mainstream alternative', but they haven't appealed to me in the last four or five years at all.  It's kind of a shame.  Thing is, I don't give a rat's ass about spending $40 anymore, but why waste my time on bands I don't like and fighting the teenage crowds?

Okay, here's where I show my age.  I think this would be incredible, absolutely incredible.  I realize that a bunch of the 80s bands aren't the highest caliber music, but this is all the shit I listened to when I was in high school.  And to throw in one of my current faves like F.O.W. would be awesome.

I understand this is not a stellar lineup, but DAMN I would have fun!

I'm with you ladies. It may not be my all-time dream festival but I'm sure that I'd leave pleased, unlike that freaking HFStival torturous line-up. One good band - BRMC. That's it!

Thank you Seth for booking BRMC at the 9:30 Club!!!! After skipping this area on their recent "Initmate Tour", I'd have to seek them out and kill them otherwise.

I mentioned in another thread, if Siouxsee were playing as well, hell and high water couldn't keep me from going.  As it is, it's too soon, it's L.A., and I have a family reunion in stuffy connecticut.

Hey bags did you see her at Nation, i believe it was last year? I love her music but i was disappointed with the show, i only recognized two songs and i know a whole lot more than that. I guess she musta played all new stuff, if she has any.

I did see that show.  I thought it was good, but I saw her more recently in NYC at Roseland Ballroom, and it was a fantastic show.  They played a lot of old stuff -- it was last fall sometime.

But I'm pretty easy, if they play "Christine," "Spellbound" and "Dazzle," maybe "The Killing Jar" as well, I leave the place floating on clouds and secure about all that is good in the world.

Did anyone ever hear the duet Siouxsee did with Morrissey? I bought it on vinyl when it came out but some twat nicked it before I had a chance to listen to it, and I've never seen or heard of it since.

It's called Interlude and it's available on Gemm.com for anywhere from $5 - $60.

I used a similar site to buy books....

 alibris.com

normally with these mega sites they guarantee the transaction. It is therefore a big advantage over ebay. Often things turn up cheaper than on ebay too.

Amazon new and used is really good, but you dont get the free shipping. My wife wanted a $200 book and got it for $100 in the new and used......It was selling for $150 on ebay.

I just bought a bunch of things from Amazon new & used.  I'd never done it before, but with one-click, it was super easy.  Regular shipping will take a while, but it was still cheap and I'm not gonna *die* if I don't get four new cds w/in a couple days.

Wait, I might, I might Die -- I need that I Am Kloot and Bigger Lovers NOW NOW NOW!

Wait, I'm okay.  Just a little anxiety attack.

Funny you mention this cause I recently went 4 weeks without buying a cd to see if I could.  Then I binged.  But I'd been buying like crazy this summer so I needed a break to listen to what I had.

Mankie, you can get the CD (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/026-9526803-1094068) at Amazon UK.

As far as Gemm is concerned, I have a friend who referred me to them about 2 years ago and she liked them except we've both found that they are often way over priced. It's often better for research. But, like ebay, or any of the others, it all depends on who you end up buying from.
