I was at the Aerosmith show and the NIN show the night before. NIN and QOTSA kicked ass. The openers for that show were, ah, well... We went to the bar is all I will say. For the other show, Lenny Kravitz was pretty good. I had never seen him before this show and he did well. I've been going to see Aerosmith for years ( Aerosmith Fans (http://www.aerosmithfans.com) is my web site or at least one of the 100 I run. I had pretty good seats. Was 4th row on the cat walk. WAY too may 'chick' songs and other lame tracks in this set list. Cryin', Jaded, Janie's Gonna Cum, I Dont Want To Lick Your Thing, and The Other Side all should just go the hell away. All that combined with a set list of less than 20 songs and tickets closing in on $150 each once ticket bastard jumps in there made it an evening that was short of satisfying. Those were shows number 100 and 101 for us since January last year. Only 11 more to go before the end of the year (so far)...

Feeling better that I'm not the only one who went to both NIN and Aerosmith.
-
Saw an ad for the Aerosmith/Kravitz show, and my wife and I both simultaneously had the though that there was nowhere in the world we would less want to be.

I went to both. Very willingly too. And had a great time at both.

i went to nin. that show was crazy good. as for that aerosmith setlist, how depressing. atleast they did love in an elevator.
-
Is there any Lenny Kravitz song that doesn't sound like a ripoff of some other pop artist?
-
Yeah Lenny Kravitz is truly the king of cheese.

I was going to say sat in a dentist chair having multiple root canals, only for the novocaine to wear out mid-drill and the dentist to realize his assitant forgot to re-order some.
Then I realized....you two are right!

an even better question: is anyone really a die-hard lenny kravitz fan? he seems like the kind of bland, boring, safe musician that casual listeners could hear on the radio and enjoy ... but does anyone REALLY like him?
-
lenny kravitz sophomore album 'fields of joy' was pretty damned good. highly beatlesque i'll admit. perhaps im missing something here, fill me in. after that yeah what a 'whole lotta cheeze'.

Funny, he actually came up in coversation at a party the other night.
I occasionally see one of my 55 year old co-workers at select alt-country shows (e.g. Robbie Fulks), and I met his wife the other night at a party. In addition to telling us that her second cousin is Big from Big and Rich, she told us that their 16 yr old wanted to go to a Lenny Kravitz show...which delighted her 50 yr old mom, because, "Of course I know Lenny Kravitz, he's been around for 20 or 25 years, he's great!"
So there you go. 16 year old suburban white girls and their 50 yr old moms like Lenny Kravitz.

I believe he's got a huge following of devoted fans in Australia....but then again, they are aussies.
Not unlike Hasselhof in Germany!

Yes, I will admit to buying his first album on cassette when it came out, and enjoying that particular tune. My friends made fun of me for buying it even then, but fuck em, it was a fun song. Haven't liked anything since that album.
