Title: Dumpster Diving
Post by: Random Citizen on August 22, 2004, 03:30:00 pm
Did anyone else see the article (https://secure.washingtoncitypaper.com/cgi-bin/Archive/abridged2.bat?path=q:\DocRoot/2004/040820/dumpster&search=&SearchString=&AuthorLastName=&IssueDate=08%2F20%2F04&SelectYear=All&next.x=72&next.y=18) in this week's City Paper on the art of dumpster diving?

Reading that article makes me never want to visit anyone's place for dinner because I won't know if they bought the food or picked it up from a dumpster behind Whole Foods.

Earlier, I read the whole article and found it very interesting.

I myself don't think I could ever do what the people in the article did - I would be too worried about germs/vermin/insects/etc. (I'm squimish enough as it is).

That said, I have wondered where all of this food that expires/can't stay on the shelf long goes.

 Cheers

 DJ Medusa.

weird article. did those people use their real names? i'd be embarrassed if the people in my office knew that i was the one rooting in their trash bins after the 12 o'clock lunch hour.

and dumpster diving dates? am i supposed to kiss a guy who eats garbage all day? i could smooch a bum on the street and avoid the whole dating thing. having a corner office on K street doesn't change the fact that you eat trash.

Has Sonic Youth done something to offend you?

Or are you now paying tribute to the Minutemen?

Maybe the freegans should go diving behind an elementary school and dig for some basic grammar and composition books.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but I once had a girlfriend who, with her friends, rummaged through goodwill boxes to pick through the donations before they actually went on the market.

Nah, SY hasn't done anything to offend.  I've been meaning to change my boardname for a little while now.  I figured a certain few would notice the Wattspeak.  I've also named my bike econo.

 Back to freeganism.

Haven't heard that term in a while. We use to dumpster dive at Domino's late night coming home from the bars. The pizzas were still hot most of the time, just end of the night and bad orders or whatever...

Ohio University didn't get #5 party school for nothing! lol
