Hey, i was wondering if anyone knew anything about Getaccess maybe its from Pollstar.. Anyway, there are these auctions on ebay for $9.99 and you get a 4 month membership and supposedly 2 free lawn tickets to the Tori Amos / Ben Folds show.
Am i reading this wrong? i dont know, is anyone a member of this? do they really give you free tickets? I thought they werent even having a lawn for Tori/Ben
any answers would help, thanks.

getaccess is the latest scheme of clear channels to lighten people's wallet and fill otherwise empty seats at their shows... considering how few clear channels shows i go to a year it's a total waste. ain't american wonderful... corner the market and then raise prices in order to pay off the debt incurred getting there.
did any one hear seth on npr's atc monday?

He called this year the worst time for the concert industry that he can remember.
Shows that used to sell-out don't sell-out anymore.
People are going to fewer shows.

which just proves my point that music today is utter, utter shite!

i DON'T THINK THAT'S THE POINT

I don't think that was his point. Listen to the piece.
What I took from it is that while there are lots of acts touring and lots of places to play, prices are higher so people are being more selective in which (and how many) shows they go to.
-
Wow, I've been to more shows this year than I have in a long time. But, it's true, very few shows sell out (which I selfishly enjoy, but I can see it's not good for the industry overall).
Is that a Washington thing, or a general trend, I wonder. Thoughts from the show-going public?

IT'S STILL TRUE...and why are you shouting?

Personally, I've been to fewer shows this year than any previous year I can remember. It used to be, especially at the 930, that it was a relatively inexpensive night out....cheaper than dinner and a movie pretty much, so I would go to a show, regardless of who's playing for a night out. Now, with ticket and drink prices where they are, it's a lot more expensive so I tend to save the cash for a show I really want to see, and for me, this year has been terrible.
-
doesn't seem like rocket science...if i've got $200-$250 to spend on shows per year, and the prices are going up, I'm going see become more selective about whay i see, becuase i'll be able to see fewer shows.

actually i'm a miserable old twat who is rediscovering the fringes of the 60's and the numerous bands past and present influenced by that period.
see as fall is the return of the mod, at least in terms of fashion designers, it would be great to have a return of mod sensibilities as well. some new classic soul, r&b, and garage would be fit in nicely.

so who much does getaccess cost?
I mean, it says for $10 i can get those 2 lawn tickets, and i am a getaccess member for 4 months? but is that all i pay is $10? or do i pay monthly after the $10 i pay on ebay?
sounds like a scam kinda. but if they really wanna sell tickets, I'll go for $10
-
Possibly one of the reason concert tix prices in general have gone up is because of more elaborate stage shows. I can't speak from experience, but a Britney concert is very goudy. Take a tip from indie shows, and make it simple and focus on the music (and cool video projection).

You do realize it's Tori Amos don't you? And that you just made a public statement stating you would pay $10 to enter a venue that has Tori playing?
Markie....that trumps the Hughie Lewis comment any day.

The chick who is making him go must be pretty hot.

looks like clear channel is branching out with the getaccess scam on to ebay... looking at this site GetAccess (http://getaccess.cc.com), the full "benefits" aren't available in the dc area yet.

Nevermind.
I really like her first album. I saw her perform it live. It was very good. does that make me a bad person?

I don't have a budget, I just see what I want to. That very well may be a function of no kids or what have you. I have to say that most shows I see are in the $10 - $15 range, though, so it's just not an issue. Only shows I didn't go to because of cost are some of those reunion shows (B-52s for $40, etc.). I still average 4 - 6 shows a month. And if I weren't drinking at the Black Cat, I'd be drinking somewhere else.
But, that's just me. For a few years there I didn't have a posse of folks who would go to shows with me. Now I do and I'm taking full advantage (of every man I meet, I get away, almost every day, with what the girls call, what the girls call, what the girls call, the girls call murder).

Except that biggest selling musical acts, movies, cars, TV shows, etc... in Canada all come from the U.S.
Canada is the 51st state.
-
i think we are 54th
Mexico
England
Iraq
THEN Canada....
and all that proves is we get all the good stuff from the US w/o all of the crap politics :)
-
Of course, there's always America/Iraq when Dubya's finished!

That's seems fair seeing as America gets most of it's NHL players from Canada.
By the way, it's the 52nd...Britain is the 51st!
